I know the exchanges well, and they could leave at any time. Their CEO's have said that their open trading floors only contribute about 20 - 25% of their revenue, and they only keep them open for the long-standing members that haven't retired yet or gone off-floor.
There's NO reason for the trading floors to be there, at all, and if Groot pushes them with a per-transaction tax or something insane to hurt the high-earners there, the exchanges can uproot right now and just go fully online.

Some of the hotels, both on and off Michigan are still closed, and I can think of one that looks like it has been walked away from. Clearly it's far more serious to older folks and people that have health issues. We know that. So older people are at more risk, they are also at more risk getting a serious case of the flu. The school teachers sit at home and get paid many smirking and voicing hate for cops. But they are mostly loyal demoncrats, can't rile them now. The wealthy are cautious of course, their egos are massive, how would the world survive without them all. But most of the wealthy, the scummy athletes and celebrities are mostly liberals and tow the line for the cause. Many of them are also stupid and believe what they are told from CNN. It doesn't mean they are all staying home doing nothing, they are off in some exotic place on their yacht having fun in the sun while grunts are worried that their job is gone forever and how will they survive through Christmas. The peons are the stupid ones that's true, they take so much and do nothing about it. Little unity and feel forced to take whatever is shoved on them. Cops are like that. Look at the crime stats and you want to go downtown? Even in the most exclusive of streets your family might see a shooting and catch some stray lead. Why the hell put your family in danger for a trip to downtown? When a pack of 20 savages surround you just remember it's your city. I don't understand people like you at all.
Maybe Detroit 10 years ago, but now, Detroit is on an upswing. It has REAL projects being worked on and an police chief who does not back down.

Their downtown is better. But look at the east side. Or the west side, it's still a complete shit hole. Residents in these areas complain the only upswing is in downtown. People keep leaving the city. The number of old stately schools slowly falling down, the city so damn stupid they let everything be taken out of them and then put them up for sale. Crooks still run Detroit, that mayor is shifty as hell but still better than Groot or Warren Wilheim.
Oh and crime, let's not forget about that. Big cities with the highest per capita murder rates in 2018, Detroit is number 3. New Orleans and Baltimore beat them for the top spot. Chicago was 12th but will surge toward the top in 2020.

The board of education owns the land beneath Midway Airport. Th3 city of Chicago is just leasing the air rights. This is not unusual In this country. The Merchandise Mart is built on air rights the property is owned by the railroads , which ones I don’t know, a lot of property in the US is reservation owned. You buy it and you have to pay land lease to the Indians.
The board of ED cannot sell their land to anyone but they can lease the rights to anyone.

Hale School sat within the boundaries of the airport. The school was located on land at the southwest end of the airport near 63 rd and Central until 1951. The north part of the airport was a golf course. I wonder if it was better than Marquette Parks course.

The one thing I would argue about against a big move to Gary is this: I lived on the far Southeast Side of Chiraq most of my life until after retirement I moved to Indiana. I also worked there in 004 as well as at other jobs prior to CPD. If you are at 79th Street on the Lake or further south, if you look North the view IS pretty incredible. BUT, the view South of that ALL the way down the line facing Indiana is nothing but working or vacant Steel mills, refineries, factories, you name it. All the way down the Tollway and 94 you see the same. Get to Downtown Gary itself and it looks like a set from the Walking Dead. My point is this:you can dress up Chicago in spots but still have the view of Downtown and clear lake. The other direction? I already described it. You can put only so much lipstick on a pig but Porky will remain Porky. Unless the development plans include a nuclear strike to strip the land bare and start again after the radiation dies down, I just cannot imagine the beautification of Gary. Hell, even when it was booming the view was the same.
Was on news other day the company that is leasing the parking meters already made up their initial investment of about 1.5 billion and made 500 million last year. Good news in 66 years they'll be back owned by the city.
