Eighty-One New Bodies

  • A new class of police officers is joining the Chicago Police Department, entering the police force during the coronavirus pandemic and heightened civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers.

“We’ve never had the two intersect, where you have a global pandemic and unprecedented civil unrest,” Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said at a Monday news conference. “These people are quite aware of those circumstances and that background, and yet, they are committed to this profession.”

The 81 new probationary police officers were the first recruit class to undergo youth-led neighborhood tours, part of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s promise for police reform, Brown said. The new officers will be trained, mentored and evaluated over the next three months.
  • Michael Lappe, vice president of the board of trustees for the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago, said 59 police officers are retiring in August, with another 51 retirements set for next month. “That’s unheard of,” Lappe said. “We’re seeing double the average number of retirees each month. The average is about 24 a month.”
So CPD is only down twenty-nine officers from earlier this summer.

And that's before the really big numbers hit toward the end of the year.

So the Sun Times is still lying about the George Floyd incident. The article said that George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis Police officers.

The Sun Times is allowed to misreport, misrepresent, and flat out lie to its readers. The newspapers say they don't like to list the race of offenders in reported crimes in this city for fear of creating racial tension, yet creating racial tension is all that the media has done nationwide since at least the Trayvon Martin incident.

The coroner's report and the overwhelming mountain of evidence culled from police body worn cameras show that Minneapolis police officers did not murder George Floyd.

When will journalists be held accountable for their lies, which only serve to further inflame an already incendiary level of antagonism between a certain demographic and the police?

Cool it, I get the city made a promise about retiree healthcare but we are one of the only departments in the country offering any type of healthcare to retired police. Most of them are all on their own after they retire. 2-3% isn’t really that bad considering cobra is upwards of $1500 a month. In ‘17 when I left there were no temporary retired stars, everyone was leaving for the free medical.
You have your retired ID, that’s all you really need. You show a star, retired ir otherwise they ask for ID anyway.
I received my retired star a few months later.

Why they can’t have the retired star ready your last day, for those that had to submit your par form the previous year, is another CPD mystery.

81 re-educated recruits will be the last of the year. No 2021 budget will contain more CPD appropriations, but plenty for the expanding COPA and a few new civilian led policy groups. No federal bailout money will be the Larri excuse for further hiring, but works for her Defunding agenda. Then there’s that what to do about that $100 million New Academy.

Hashed Brown is a low energy, uninspiring, unenthusiastic useless boner.

Free medical was age 60 until age 65 then medicare if you qualify, if you had sense to work a side job to accumulate the 40 quarters of earnings for basic medicare that my cardiologist says is the best basic insurance, then any social security earnings can pay for a supplemental insurance. It's been this way for years, I've been retired 10 years and prepared for it for 20 years before retirement and for 9 years before coming on the job. Really sad to say this but I will not trust the motives of any of these new recruits. I feel like some will even be trying to bait veteran officers into some sort of bad behavior or negativity. This career has changed dramatically. 20 and done let’s all keep in mind whatever the next career is let’s make sure we all use retired police for any business, or trade work we need done.

And FOP please tell them if they are going to start pounding this consent decree when it gets cold and the election is over that we want the everything on there enforced not just the negative stuff. The more frequent testing for promotions, better resources for ptsd and hardships.

Any chance we can wait lightfoot out for a new contract? She obviously does not like or appreciate the police. Think of what career you walk into the bosses office to discuss a raise except the boss hates your guts and does not care at all about your family. And I know about arbitration but still seems like a very unpopular time to ask for a raise given we’re the bad guys now in the eyes of the uneducated and easily manipulated. Just think the pros vs cons fall on the side of waiting.....agree?

I really feel sorry for these new coppers. My very first day after graduating the academy as I was walking to the car with my FTO he said "In the academy you learn the basics and now you will learn to be the police." Over the course of my career I've seen that philosophy dwindle. With those of us who have been on the job a long time and are getting near leaving the future is in the hands of...well...lets just say less than enthusiastic, unknowledgeable "mentors" that don't give a fuck. the city has always been a very political place and we all have seen or experienced it. the problem is that policing our own, having integrity and getting the job done is on its way out. someone opened the window and it was sucked out. The politics will still be around but it will become a political machine staffed by liberal trolls.

IPRA was replaced by COPA and soon COPA will be replaced by god knows what. probably a group of half-assed community activists, Depaul graduates and any other liberal scumbags.

If you think I'm exaggerating do a search on YouTube for COPA Chicago and watch the video of a public affairs presentation. this clown looks like they recruited him straight out of a coffeshop in Wicker Park. he didn't even come close to being serious during his presentation. actually danced a little bit while he was answering a question.

I would say good luck to the future men and women of CPD but luck will be overrun by incompetence.

We used to avoid grabbing lunch in certain neighborhoods. Nowadays, I'd go anywhere in englewood or Garfield park before I step foot in a joint in Lincoln park.

The department and city are actually touting this like it’s a victory. 81 PPOs? That’s just a few per district if they were spread out evenly across the city. That doesn’t even make a dent. It doesn’t even register. Not to mention, they’re PPOs, they don’t know anything. Not their fault, they’re just PPOs. so 81 new cops who don’t know anything isn’t making any kind of difference anywhere. But the pussy media will tow the company line and project it as some major influx in manpower.

Fort Louie is more secure than Fort Douaumont during the First World War the French secured this fort at all cost. During the battles of Verdun, the French were bled white by the German Army because of the national significance of verdun to the French people. The French emptied out Paris of all of its taxi cabs as it sent its soldiers to the front lines via cab along the A5 autoroute national. It’s amazing to think the French République was saved by a bunch of Renault cabs.

Larry would request all squads from the city if his/her/they/it’s house were under siege from assholing.... you would see Fort Louie secured by a double circled ring of CTA buses just Washington DC had in May of 1972. Look it up guys, the most arrests in the History of the United States occurred during the May protests of 1972. Securing Richard Nixon a landslide in the November 1972

New bodies needed to po at into the pension fund. The fund may be a sinking ship but new hires putting in 9.7% will keep the sump pump going. Tough life for the newbies, the job was a lot different in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90"s. I was at the King riots in April '68 and then the DNC in August, believe me the hickory stick was in action. Lots of gunfire on the west side during the April riots, many bodies found in the burned out buildings. I was at Cook County hospital to handle a shooting victim. Said victim stated a blue and white car pulled up in front of the store he was looting and the men inside fired about 20 shots at him and left. Description of offenders, unknown males in a 4 door sedan, blue in color, unknown direction of flight.

Do not wait until it is time to retire to start planning your future.

Marry someone who has 40 hours, stay married for 10 years and you get Medicare even if you get divorced. After 10 years of marriage you are entitled to Medicare on the spouses work record. Can’t be taken away

When I retired, they gave me the application to purchase another retirement star. Do they still do that?
