We have all known for a long time Chicago can't rest its finances on tourism, but it moved in that direction under Daley, Emanuel, and Lightfoot finished off the strategy. There is no question its, dead. I have been amazed for years watching asian tourists buy up stuff on Michigan Ave, then toss their own clothes in the garbage so not to have to pay tariffs on the stuff they were bringing back to China from the high end stores now all looted. There is no question property taxes will explode too.

My wife and I were hanging out at the yacht club on Saturday afternoon, exercising our white privilege and we noticed how few people were on the lake front trail. It was a beautiful summer day and there had to be only 25% of the people out.

There is no legal process available in Illinois to recall Chicago's mayor.
I lived in Chicago for over 30 years. Once the West Town precinct closed, things stated to change quickly. I saw the writing on the wall and moved to a nice lake in Wisconsin. After encountering ferrel activity during my past two visits, I no longer have any interest in visiting a city I formerly loved.
I also have it on good authority that the downtown streak joints are getting hit for thousands a night by dine and ditch from the reparations crowd.
tourism will remain dead until further notice.

I heard the same thing too. A friend of mine said he had dinner at Lou Malnati's on State Street and the waiter told him it happens like 2-3 times A DAY.
Heard another story about a dine and dash at Gibson's on a $2000 tab. Gibson's calls the police. Police show up and said "there is nothing we can do". WTF?
How about putting security at the door and say unless you show us a paid receipt, you can't leave?
Pretty soon, the restaurants are all going to want a deposit when you order. Sad.
