My first 20 years we hardly had to deal with this $hit beside the Bulls championships. Now its becoming a monthly thing to cancel days off. We need language in the next contract that a CANCELLED DAY IS TRIPLE TIME MONEY. This b1tch mayor does not care about us at all. Im glad John won the FOP presidency. start planning for retirement now, don't wait until you are retired to decide what you will do or where you will go. For many of us, staying in the Chicago area was the only plan because of family. I moved out of the city to a nice quiet area and I enjoy it every day. But, if the voters approve the new state income tax plan, it is only a matter of time that the state will tax pensions and then I will leave the state. Unless you have a lot of savings you might have to get another job.

Any moron that thinks lifting residency is a good idea is a fucking idiot. First of all as soon as the hint that it would be lifted comes out, all the people in the know that make the decisions will already have their houses on the market. By the time we, the lowest rung of the ladder, learn of that option our property values would have already decreased by 20%. Be careful what you wish for. Residency being lifted is not a good idea.
The city departments employees that live in the city, are the ones that sustain it.

Where you gonna move? Naperville? It’s either 800k houses or the “middle class” older part of Naperville which now has a massive “mixed income” area of former Chicago residents with a lot of subsidized housing. The border with aurora is horrible. The robberies and carjackings are the same.. Naperville is candy land for the city dwellers. Have you been to a suburban public high school??? Every public high school in the suburbs has hundreds of the south and west siders from Chicago and bad collar suburbs such as Robbins, maywood, Bellwood, Harvey etc etc. the Naperville area high schools are loaded with not only the garbage from Chicago but from aurora. Orland is going fast and has a skyrocketing crime from Chicago residents and the residents from the south suburbs constantly going there to rob people. Tinkey is a dump and Frankfort and mokena are getting more and more former west and southside city residents moving in. Barrington and west barrington are fighting subsidized housing and halfway houses all over the place and they are losing. Glenview is nice but they are losing with all the city trash invading. Sea plaines is finished just like mount prospect. Palatine and Schaumburg are a cross between Guadalajara and the Middle East along with niles. 016 and 017 are pretty much lost. Evergreen park and oak lawn are gone. Palos is hit with carjackings all the time and is the land of ghetto corner store owners. Here’s a tip, use the money to to send your kid to a catholic school. Orland park property taxes for a bi-level 4 bedroom built in 1988 is 18k. Niles for a raised ranch is 14k. Glenview for. 4 bed 2 bath in a decent area was 19k. Good luck starting all over so you can have some “fresh air”. Tough it out, send your kids to private schools and leave the city and state the day you retire. The residency will do nothing for us because even if they say within the state of Illinois and cook county you are still stuck in garbage. If they say in Illinois but within 30 miles you are still stuck because everywhere in Illinois within 30 miles is under cook county influence and the bad man he already infiltrated.

What information do you have on residency coming and what’s changed that would make residency last? I agree with you on why people are leaving the city because of high taxes, schools, crime and that’s not going to change and having more people leave the city would only make it worse and further lower home prices
