- The Cook County Board of Commissioners overwhelmingly passed a symbolic resolution Thursday that supports diverting money from policing in the wake of nationwide protests demanding police budgets be defunded.
The Justice for Black Lives resolution says in order to mitigate harm from law enforcement that “historically increased unaccountable violence inflicted on Black and Brown communities,” the county should “redirect funds from policing and incarceration to public services not administered by law enforcement that promote community health and safety equitably.”
Fifteen out of the 17 commissioners signed onto the resolution introduced by Commissioner Brandon Johnson, D-Chicago, with one commissioner voting no and another voting present.
Among the "yes" votes for defunding sheriffs and the jail?

Wow. Know her and am surprised. Just shows that once you get into politics you throw away and sense of right and wrong and are willing to do or say anything to further your political future. I honestly hope some day, even if it be at Gods door, that these people will pay for villainizing the police and putting down the only people willing to go into these shitty neighborhoods to help them. It’s wrong and so many people know it, yet they choose to do it because it’s popular and to stand up against thIs wayward movement is not convenient at the moment. When police come back in favor someday, losers like Gainer will then be praising the police saying how many friends and family she has that are police. Voting present means that your vote goes with the majority vote. So the final vote was really 16 to 1 with Morrison (my rep in the far southwest burbs thank goodness) being the only no vote. He is the only one who said this is not right. The vote was just a resolution which means it is non-binding but there’s support to bring up a formal vote regarding the County budget and a perhaps a cut to Fart’s budget. In any event, I can’t believe how far left and communist the entire board is. I thought 80% were commies not 94% of the board. Goes to show you how bad Cook and Chicago have gotten. ITS TIME FOR TAXPAYERS TO BE PROVIDED SCHOOL CHOICE OR ASK FOR A TAX REFUND
There is no point in pretending that schools are going to be open on time or that there will not be disruptions during the school year. With about a month remaining before most schools open, many districts are still struggling to develop plans for opening safely that have the faculty and staff support. Most teacher unions are resisting opening schools altogether and are insisting that districts start the year exclusively with online instruction.
The fact remains that despite schools being effectively closed since mid March, replaced by abysmal online instruction, which for the most part was not live and mostly consisted of downloading learning materials, teacher contracts were still honored with teachers getting a full paycheck while not losing sick days and personal time, pay raises and longevity pay increases where not impacted, few if any layoffs and many faculty taking the summer off instead of preparing and training for the coming year’s remote learning the unions are demanding.
It’s time for taxpayers and parents with children in public schools to demand real school choices or their tax money back for the time school is not in session. Let parents have the means to determine the best education avenue for their children without it being dictated to them by unreasonable state public education mandates and collective bargaining agreements that are not student centered. Let school funding which consumes 54% of what Chicago property taxpayers pay and more than 70% in many suburban and downstate districts and well as state K-12 funding follow the students.
With the likelihood of schools reopening only remotely and the state directing that parents to be given the option of having their children continue to learn remotely once school opens, it’s time to give parents the opportunity to have real quality school choice. Real school choices should include the following.
• Allow parents to enroll their children in any traditional public school, public charter school, parochial or private school, that has the on-site or online capacity to take on more students.
• Give parents the option of enrolling their children in quality online educational programs offered by public (Illinois Virtual School) and private online providers of their choice.
• Remove obstacles and provide support for parents who seek to open “Education Pods” and “Micro Schools” to create safe and supervised learning environments for students to learn online while their parents work.
• Allow parents to use their educational tax dollars to pay for private home tutoring.
• Allow high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to substitute paid worker study for non essential courses and electives that are not being offered remotely.
Every day almost 55 million first responders, health care and other essential workers go to work delivering a quality service, often putting themselves in harms way with few complaints, while teacher unions look for ways to avoid opening schools. If schools are going to be forced to remain closed, then it is time for all parents to have real school choices or ask for a tax refund.
You ever notice how those who get on board with this nonsense are the very definition of PRIVILEGE, Political Privilege. You don’t see them racing to give up that privilege, hand over the torch. If they do move on, it’s to another position handed to them through all their connections/political privilege. If Sheriff Dart is telling truth he has spent over billion last decade on jail mental health programs to reduce recidivism rate. Wouldn't all crime rising and repeat offenses indicate his programs have been a failure. If he actually hired qualified mental healthcare workers and not political hacks running these programs might have different outcome. Like Mark Browns wife running a "program" in tear where they chain most dabgerous detainees to tables for 12 hours day so they can say they ended solitary confinement.
