Ready for Rolling Blackouts?

  • Exelon Generation announced Thursday it is retiring its Byron and Dresden generating stations in fall of 2021.

The Byron location will close in September of next year, and Dresden, in Morris, will close in November of next year.

Together, the units provide energy to more than four million homes.

Dresden is licensed to operate for another decade and Byron for another 20 years, Exelon said. Together, they employ more than 1,500 full-time employees and 2,000 supplemental workers during refueling outages.
Twenty years left on their licenses, but supposedly too expensive to operate, meaning more oil, gas and coal will be burned to power Illinois.

Where are the "greenies" protesting this? Are they all out rioting with #blm-tifa?

Don’t worry, no problem. As we get closer to the election the Democrats will really increase their bloviating propaganda which in turn will create gales that will power the wind turbines to generate enough electricity.

Force, ram down the throats of, customers to swallow green technology of windmills and solar panels. The theory of “Nudge” applied to Illinois customers.

If you haven’t thought about buying a generator, think about it now. Get a normal one or one that runs off natural gas. I remember ComEd in the early 2000’s had a problem that caused us to be without electricity for 4 days. Fortunately we were able to borrow a relative’s generator to get us through, but afterwards we purchased a normal generator, always filled and an extra jug of gas standing by. Also think about a transfer switch kit.

This is a power play by Excelon to get better treatment from filthy Illinois politicians. Good luck.

I hear Union Pacific is using a similar faking technique on its Metra lines to get out of its Metra contract. It's not collecting fares and using covid as its cover story.
U.P. is done with the badly managed Metra.

I read an article about nuclear power generated in Illinois. The number of terrawatts or tetrawatts, whatever, was around 380K. Solar and wind produced around 15K. There us no way the energy produced by the nukes can be replaced unless hundreds of natural gas power plants are built. Bubblehead JB and Illinois politicians, except for the thieving Madigan, should be working non stop to have Exelon reconsider. Bubblehead follows the footsteps of Newsome from California and Cuomo of NY so closely that if one if them stopped quickly JB would be stuck in their ass. Both of those idiots are all in on the New Green Deal so Bubblehead is all in for it as well. Turn out the lights the party's over, oops turn out the lights because there's no electricity.

Remember years ago “Commonwealth Edison” had a extra charge on your monthly bill, to pay for the construction of the reactors. After they were built, “ComEd” started tacking on a extra charge on your monthly bill for the decommissioning of the reactors. Then “ Excelon” took over and just raised your rates. Where did all that money go? If they are ditching the reactors early, I want my money back! Where are our reparations? Electric power customers lives matter! ;)

Way’we gonna plug in my free WiFi’s StayAtHome skool free laptops?

Weren’t the Democrats harping about unsafe nuclear energy (China syndrome panic, Chernobyl and Fukushima) and discharged pollutants back in the ‘80’s (3 Mile Island)? They shuttered Zion for a (profit) malfunction in ‘97.

I’m not sure if Excelon is pulling another post-Madigan stunt, or a desperate Sen Durban (worried about Willie Wilson challenge in Nov.) is lobbying for “savings jobs” soapbox item. If Durban is that concerned, then have Excelon convert to coal, oil or natural gas. Either way, don’t believe what they say or you hear.
Blame Trump is easy.
President Trump will lift any Federal restrictions that’s a guarantee, but Illinois Democrats have a different view of how to regulate power supply. Excelon (ComEd) isn’t losing money, they’re just not making enough profit. ICC is run by the daughter in-law of corrupt Chicago AlderThief Zalewski. ICC Illinois Commerce Commission Board will have no choice but approve the troubled Excelon.
Excelon ComEd had woes, more since the FBI started digging into its current investigation of Public Official A, going back to 2011.
This is a political stunt. Southern IL is the heartland that can change Illinois from Blue to Red. Durban - DuckWorthless knows this as well as JB Porterhouse.

Democrats get a nice chunk of cash from Excelon via creative shakedowns (free community stuff and service) and plenty of campaign donors. They’re tired of the shakedowns and know well enough Illinois is eating the profits from State regulators and politic. IL is not a good place to do business in no matter what it may be. Excelon knows how to make money, they’re tired of giving it away every time the regulators say times up.

Don’t be fooled, ComEd Excelon knows President Trump‘s deregulation history. They are probably already been lobbying DC.
The stranglehold is the Democrats.

It's all a bluff. Exelon wants state subsidies to underwrite their aging nuke plants using taxpayer money, even through they turn a huge profit as a corporation. They tried to get their subsidiary Com Ed to bribe their way to this, but they got caught by the Feds. Hence the $200 million settlement to end a federal criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. So they went to plan B. Sorry to say, but this is just a case of a large, cash-rich corporation having a temper tantrum.

It’s all in the grid of the scheme.
Durban’s involved. Another Scare tactic. Another opportunity to swipe at eliminating fossil fuel. Because Excelon has that chip in their corner.

Where’s the wind?
Liberal California gave millions in handouts to deadbeats and illegal migrants, more into pet projects like bullet trains, but refused to manage their forests and now the raging fires are hampering their windmill operations, hence they ain’t got’no sustainable energy as backup to their rolling blackouts.

Look, here’s the deal...
We have lead in the water pipes and the water bill keeps going up, the bi-annual bill came today.
Is Larri going to sell off water filtration and make them put new pipes in? Maybe.
Will Excelon sell off to China to retrofit the turbines? Maybe.
Will CPS-CTU refuse to go back to classrooms (after the Covid’s Cure) because there’s No electricity and Lead still in the water?

The far-left socialist Democrats are firmly in control of this city and county...and they have us right where they want us. Now get back to your beat or tac car and continue working. The community members need a second smart-phone and their rent and water bill paid. The smart ones (and lucky ones) have already left this city and are working and living in Red states (Free America). By 2022 your home or condo will be 20% of what its worth now. This is a problem nationwide. Nuclear power costs $30-$40/MWh to produce, while the wholesale market rate for electricity in ComEd's service area is $23/MHh.

Nuclear power is excellent, but incurs enormous costs for skilled labor for inspection and compliance. Management has focused on safety (naturally) and reliability rather than improved efficiency, and operating costs have not fallen over time: in this it differs from nearly every other industrial category, including other forms of power generation. Nuclear plants often use analog equipment and manual processes; some analysts believe nuclear operating costs could be reduced by half by adopting digital technology. One example: "... installing sensors and simple analytics for continuous online monitoring of vertical pumps could reduce annual maintenance costs by $25,000 per pump. If applied to the hundreds of similar pumps in a typical plant, aggregate savings over 20 years could exceed $50 million."

At some point, this country is going to have to tap the untouched oil seams that exist within the borders of the state of Alaska. It is almost on par amount wise close to the middle east, but hasn't been utilized due to the location underneath natural glaciers. This isn't the 60's anymore. Technology and safe drilling/mining have come a long way. Time for the politicos, regardless of party affiliation, to get this done. Solar, wind, hydro, are good adjuncts, but not the total solution.

Back in the 90s, scientists at Argonne labs came up with a way to reduce/reuse/recycle nuke waste in a way that would get 10x the energy out of the fuel rods and the residue would only be high-level waste for 100-200 years instead of 10,000.
The Clintonistas shut down the project, fired the scientists and 'lost' the research.
