"Catastrophic Collapse"
- Citing the “catastrophic collapse of our local and national economy” because of COVID-19 and damage to local businesses from civil unrest, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday laid out a $1.2 billion shortfall for what she called Chicago’s “pandemic budget” in 2021.
Filling the historic deficit will likely require personnel cuts and could lead to layoffs, and the mayor promised to use a TIF surplus and consider a computer lease tax as other potential measures. Lightfoot made no mention of a possible property tax hike in her remarks.
Asked afterward for specifics about cuts or taxes, Lightfoot said that “all options are on the table,” though property taxes and job cuts are at the back of her list.
And she is still hanging her hat on a pipe dream:
- As she has since her 2019 election, Lightfoot pointed to Chicago’s newly minted casino license as an important element in restoring the health of city finances.
Her administration last week issued a request for information from perspective operators. Though it could be years before the “world class entertainment district” with a giant gambling parlor the mayor envisions is up and running, Lightfoot said Chicago will be uniquely positioned to profit from such a project.
“I’m confident that when the time is right we will be able to put together a package of revenue and other incentives to make sure that we have the kind of entertainment district that will not only be true to the legislation that we were able to get passed in Springfield, but to create a lot of jobs that are good jobs, well-paying jobs, to make sure that we bring opportunity to our city and to our residents,” Lightfoot said.

...so this “free childcare,” does it involve more than one kid and kids outside a kid’s family? You know what’s cheaper? Putting them in the school we are paying teachers to not be in for the past 6 months.
So the sgts supposivly have in their new contract a new clause where they are prohibited from working a side job more than 20 hrs/week. I know we all don't work for cash on side jobs, so this will cause another financial stress for alot of us IF we as P.O.'s are working extra to provide for our families.. (tuition, club sports, food, etc.). I'm hearing our contract will mirror the sgt's. Anyone else concerned about this?? Again, this supposivly, so if I'm speaking out of place, forgive me.
Libertyville Dist. 70 has come up with the "help low income families" day care plan instead of opening schools. The children will be housed a site with some teachers and substitutes. Our state-of-the-art schools will sit empty for the first trimester, but we will be paying additional people to man the day-care centers (which will remain disease-free for some magical reason not explained). I e-mailed the school board that this was unreasonable -- no response.

It simple, the tax payer is happy and doesn’t take action against the mayor, and the CTU is happy because they do less, if you can believe it, than they do when school is in person, and don’t cause trouble for the mayor. The only real losers are the tax payers with no school age children.
Anyone know if the curve has been flattened yet? After all state approved lifesaving techniques included mandatory masks, quarantines of healthy people and restrictions on gatherings at public funded education re-education facilities, houses of worship, funerals, weddings, public parks/beaches, restaurants etc. just to name a few restrictions on social movement in a free country. My sister works at a casino. She says she’ll never work at one in the city or bordering it. She’s far enough away that the clientele is middle-aged, employed or retired. She said it’s totally worth the additional drive to not have to deal with shit in Rosemont or Hammond. The only way a casino would work is a zero tolerance level towards crime in 3 miles radius area encircling the casino, dress codes (no ball caps, no pants down, you’re drunk you’re out, you appear high/smell of weed- you’re out, etc, etc). The problems with trashy people in casinos far exceeds any financial gains- they deter a great number of others who would otherwise gamble if not for the trash element.
If your child can be SAFE at a DAYCARE,
Why can’t they be SAFE in a SCHOOL?

My children attend Catholic schools on the southside and they are back to a hybrid (high school) and full time (gradeschool). My high schooler goes 3 days with two days of remote learning while my younger child is full time. His school has no air conditioning, they wear masks indoor and outdoor, and there basically is no talking and no fun. During recess, they can't touch each other, the kickballs, and they stand around.
My daughter who attends an all-girls Catholic school must wear her uniform while she is working remotely. The teachers give alot of work but also instruction.
I am so glad they are back at school and at least trying to find some normalcy. It's not the same, but it is nice to see kids in their uniforms and books coming home from school. These are some of students, teachers, and parents who are still willing to "tough it out" and work through COVID, unlike CPS. The staff have been strict with the students and I think they are worried that Covid spies will secretly be taking photos of children playing during recess without masks so they can dox them online and bombard the Archdiocese with pictures and hate mail. Damn shame that we must go through all of this just to go to school.

The markets are at all time highs because of eight stocks. FANGMAN plus T (Facebook, Apple,, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Tesla). I'd highly implore anyone invested in stock mutual funds, which have gone parabolic within 6 months, to book your profits and move your money into short term cash.
There WILL BE a rug pull and the markets will open limit down for multiple days/weeks. Don't be the jerk who had 50-100% gains and thought that markets only go up and is bitching and moaning that their deferred comp account is down a lot of money.

You're both right. The market is unrealistically optimistic, based on the status quo and the expectation of CoVid vaccines in the next two months.
But, traders live in artificial realities and those are fragile. I've seen a 400% increase in my heaviest investment, but I'm watching hourly for any hiccups in the market. If the status quo is disrupted in November (or whenever they finish 'counting' the votes), the next year will be insanely volatile in the markets and the economy, as a whole.
Lock in those low mortgages and zero percent car loans before the election, guys. It could get really ugly.
Wouldn't dropping your kids off at someplace while they do school work be snorting like a school? Isn't that what school is? Yet they can't open schools due to a ''pandemic'' but can have day care where kids do school work? Maybe it's just me, but I'm confused by that.
