A Sense of Perspective
Someone brought up the military the other day. Somewhere in the neighborhood of two-million men and women, living and training in close proximity to one another, you'd think COVID is completely out-of-control, right?
- There have been seven deaths in the military due to Covid-19 and 40,026 cases as of September 9, according to the Defense Department.
This link shows the total has risen to eight since last month. Eight - out of two-million.
Anyone want to guess why the military doesn't use "positivity rates" for things?
UPDATE: As an aside, almost 231 active service members have taken their own lives this year. THAT should be the priority, not a virus with a 99+% survival rate.

You’ll never hear Fauci share this. Instead he’s pushing what west Australia did - a full shutdown for 100+ days which would destroy our economy. Covid deaths suck but the destruction of our economy would bring down the entire world economy. Vote for Trump!
Very early on I watched a press conference on this fight against COVID. And guess who was leadingbthe charge ? Yep our military. And every branch has their own highly skilled and aggressive section for this type of shit. Makes sense too for troop and readiness capability. Yet we have a lardass,amidget lesbian and a couple amateur leage “doctors” helping to keep the sheep in control in Illinois and Cook. Is it sinking in yet ? These people dont use real statistics by real professionals trained in this. Take a look at Wirepoints. There is an article or two there.

I'm a veteran. I live in a town that has 5 military bases. They were all off work for months. Many took jobs at Lowe's and Home Depot to pass the time. Most of my neighbors are veterans or on active duty, they were enjoying the time off. Everyone was working on their homes.
Nowadays, they are all back to work. I can see the road from the bases from my kitchen window. The road was lightly traveled all summer which is not normal. Now, that road is back to normal.
This is a crock. It is obvious.
Somehow though, my liberal sister in Kansas City claims to know five or six people that have died from COVID. Yep. There are people that are stupid enough to believe in this crap.

Not that I do not wholly agree with your sentiment, and just for informational purposes only, but there are about 1.3 million military personnel in the US. This is all branches combined.
Not a fan of lockdowns but this is a bad example because the military is not a fair sample of the population. You would expect an average serviceman/woman to be younger and healthier than most. Top brass excluded of course.
Protect the elderly, let others decide for themselves.

In March, some predicted that the Democrats would crush businesses and screw up the COVID response, just to blame Trump. I honestly thought they would not have the gall after the governor marched arm in arm in one of those "COVID-free" pre-riots, and put a pediatrician in charge. Military mask wearing is mandated and social distancing is going on. Plus the average military member is in their early 20's and in decent shape. Unlike CPD they still have some weight/health standards.
Now the overwhelming percentage of people dying from Covid were extremely old and or sick already, but the disease is doing some long term damage to various organs for a large group of people.
There are no good solutions here. Only bad or worse.
Let's just hope the various vaccines provide some immunity so the world can return to its normal state of fuckery.
