Did anyone expect anything different?
After serving as one of Illinois’ top cannabis regulators, Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen confirmed Tuesday she has an ownership stake in a company vying for the right to open multiple pot shops across the state.
A spokeswoman for Degnen told the Sun-Times Tuesday the commissioner is part owner of Americanna Dream and was paid a stipend to write dispensary applications for the company.
The Highland Park-based firm submitted 36 perfect applications, beating out hundreds of other applicants to become a finalist in the state competition for the next round of dispensary licenses. The company has the maximum 10 spots in a lottery that will determine the winners of the 75 new licenses, each of which will likely be worth millions of dollars.
But Degnen’s ownership stake isn’t worth anything unless the company wins a license, according to her spokeswoman, who wouldn’t confirm how much Degnen’s been paid so far or what percentage of the company she owns.

Leftist state senator Heather Steans is the cannabis queen. She's been ignoring the state's looming financial disaster for years and instead focusing all her resources and energy on legalizing drugs and pushing pro-crime legislation.
To get the stupid public ready for legalization, weed was pitched as a medicine. ALS and cancer patients were pimped to the cause, grannies would die if weed stayed illegal. The low-information Illinois voters bought the illusion.
After that, it was only a matter of short time before Steans proposed new legislation for outright legalization. The pitch? Tax revenues. Yes, lots and lots of tax revenues. In fact, she hired some weenies at taxpayers' expense to write a white paper to convince the stupid public once again that another step towards outright legalization would not only be healthy and “green,” but profitable for the state.
Here are the numbers they gave the goobers:
“If those figures are accurate, it could mean significant tax revenue for the state. Given that recreational cannabis is taxed at 26.25 percent, the tax revenue range annually from the excise and sales taxes would be $443,690,100-$676,481,400 annually, again, if all cannabis consumers purchased from the legal market.”

Really? Then how is it that annual gross sales of weed in Illinois won't even approach those figures of estimated tax revenues? That's right. The gross value of all legal cannabis sales in Illinois will not even reach the amount given by Steans' weenies in collectable taxes.
Don't expect to read about any of this in the Libune or Slum-Times. They're too stupid/corrupt to look into any of the bullshit being slung by the weed industry or the filthy licensing scams going on in the state.
Not surprising at all. I’m sure this is only the tip of the iceberg. The State Rep. Kelly Cassidy’s wife (Candace Gingrich) got a big deal job as a VP with another pot company just after pot became legal. Of course it was approved by the committee as not being a conflict of interest...guess how many of them probably have “conflicts” that benefit them? My guess is every damn one of them. A cop still can’t own a bar as it violates ethics, but these politicians can do all sorts of things (taking $ from lobbyists in campaign dollars, dumping or acquiring stocks based on insider info, getting relatives jobs with companies that have a financial or criminal stake in the political administration. Meanwhile, I have to pretend that a yearly ethics test applies to me. That’s why these crooked ass politicians live & die for “police reform.” It keeps the public busy and nobody asks who is watching the politicians. Remember the office that was supposed to be an oversight committee for the Alderman? Dried up overnight, defunded by the Alderman. Now, that’s funny!

Some facts about Commissioner Bridget Degnen, who represents the 12th District on the Northwest side.
She ran against and defeated incumbent John Fritchey in the March 2018 primary. She was fronted by Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle who targeted Fritchey because he opposed the "Toni Tax", aka Sugary Drink Tax.
To no one's surprise, Preckwinkle refuses to approve an inquiry into Degnen's activities.
Degnen got support from ex-alderman/ward committeeman Arena (45), & current state senator/38th ward dem committeeman Martwick, the CTU, SEIU & the rest of the usual suspects.
Bridget Degnen set up her district office on Milwaukee Ave in the 45th ward at Arena's urging.
Degnen's husband is Mark Degnen, CFO of Cinespace Chicago, the politically connected film studio that got caught up in the John Coli scandal. Coli, the ex Chicago Teamsters boss pled guilty to extortion.
Not only does Degnen own a stake in a pot company & been paid to assist those seeking state licenses, several pot companies (including Cresco Labs & PharmaCann) have contributed in excess of $20k to her political fund.
As it relates to law enforcement matters, Degnen supported & voted for Commissioner & CTU lobbyist Brandon Johnson's incendiary anti-police county ordinance.
Bottom line. As a former pot bureaucrat with the state & member of the Crook County Board which has its own pot regulatory structure, Degnen has influence over who gets to take part in the spoils while directly profiting from her elected office.

Amazingly, when the requirements for the dispensaries were announced that certain groups submitted applications that covered 100% of the requirements hours after the bids were announced. No corruption in Illinois is like saying Pigsters mansion didn't have toilets.

Prickwinkle is cutting 300 open LE jobs in the Sheriff's Office. How does this not adversely affect the safety of the citizens?? Simple. The Sheriff's Office is boosting the house arrest program by going GPS AND overloading the roster with big money directors. Many of these directors are there as a makeshift "gun team". The word is that the house arrest population will soar even higher as the jail empties because it will not be able to safely.
The jobs being cut are the open positions that increased due to the large number of retirements. The hardest hit will be the courts because many of the Sheahan friends, and wives of friends, will be hitting 30 years. Most are already in their 60's or 70"s,
The jail gets hit twice because of the retirements and because the jail will be utilize to cover the empty court positions that will grow after December with the huge number of retirements. Currently, the younger court personnel are being sent to the jail to help with the issue of covid and having to spread out the inmates through out the jail. The old timers are left alone so they don't get hurt.
Meanwhile the unions are all jockeying for position because of upcoming elections and in-fighting within their own organizations.
