Just a couple of updates on things we wrote about.
More cops leaving for Florida:
- More Illinois police officers are making the move to Florida, enticed by the Sunshine State's vigorous recruitment efforts.
The migration has gained momentum following the announcement by Governor Ron DeSantis of a $5,000 bonus for officers who choose to relocate.
Governor DeSantis reports that approximately 37 Illinois officers have already taken advantage of the offer.
There is speculation that the recent ban on cash bail in Illinois may be a contributing factor in officers leaving the state. However, Illinois State Representative Carol Ammons emphasizes the importance of maintaining a focus on justice amid these changes.
Ammons is a social justice moron. If cops aren't allowed to do the job they were trained for, why stick around? All we are is a meal ticket for the next big lawsuit. Even with Florida's downsides, there's still plenty of opportunities to do good and make a living without the uncertainty.
A large media outlet discovers what we discovered last week:
In normal cities, law enforcement arrests criminals, and grocery stores stay open. In Chicago, criminals are free to do as they wish, grocery stores are run out of business, and the mayor thinks socialism is the only possible solution.
Mayor Brandon Johnson is now proposing government-owned grocery stores in order to combat food deserts in the city, as four Walmart locations and one Whole Foods have all recently closed. Walmart claims its Chicago locations have not been profitable since they opened them 17 years ago, but the “tens of millions of dollars” in losses have “nearly doubled in just the last five years.”

You can predict the result of this move with little effort. Criminals would still be free to steal whatever they like from “Chicagomart” just as they would from other retailers. The stores would run on heavy losses, but those losses would be shouldered by taxpayers instead of a corporation such as Walmart. Chicago residents would be subsidizing shoplifting, and whatever terrible business decisions that the notably incompetent Chicago government would make with the stores.
That last paragraph is exactly what we described. Seems there are a few intelligent people still working at media outlets.

More truth and not just Chicago they are doing the same in suburban stores and no cash bail welcome to the exclusive suburbs where police are respected but now that felons know no being held in jail watch the crime rise catch and release everywhere! Florida is nice however been there and the pay is 1/2, the sick days are 10 a year, pension is less, it is hot and humid constantly other than that police are respected and the states attorneys follow the law have to find that balance. IN Florida they have accountability the supervisors do their jobs and monitor you, that would be something to get used to, and they actually have uniforms that look alike plus hair and nail standards so you don't look like ragtag bunch of clowns!
Government stores are how they get you to eat ze bugs.
If you're able to do it, do it. Make the move to FL. There are plenty of other opportunities to supplement your income here, if you prefer to live outside of your budget. LEO are very well respected by the communities they serve here. Criminals go to jail/prison where they belong.

I can see the headlines from local media types. Brandon will be the cashier and Smelling and Hort will be the baggers. The local alderperson will be asking if the customer needs help to their car.

Ummmm…there’s no comparison between Florida and Illinois. Florida is a very free state and punishes crime and supports cops. Has a budget surplus and no state taxes. The government leaves the people alone and doesn’t regulate your life. And lastly, not many Democrats. Which are far more destructive than a hurricane. Look at every democrat run city and state…they are all crime ridden and collapsing financially.

I keep seeing these “anti Florida posts” this has to be coming from the failed ghost payroll “recruitment and retention” unit. Probably has a handfull of POs and multiple Sgts. Lts., a captain, commander, and a Deputy Chief. Probably more white shirts than POs. Nice try though.

The beauty of red states in the Southeast, Midwest, and Mountain west is the quality of life for you and your family.
Yes, the policing/justice system is functional in these places.
Yes, you will make less money if you choose to be the police.
Yes, you will interact with English speaking Americans 98% of the time.
Yes, you will not be able to get White Castle and Eyetalian beefs.
Bottom line is the pluses far out way the negatives.
My Deep South red state neighborhood has several local cops living in it. All new construction, gold rated hurricane resistant homes. They all have monster trucks pulling bass boats on their days off. Wives work part time jobs. Their children are all clean, respectful, and normal. Everyone says hello in English. Most attend a church.
Nobody worries about being car jacked. I had to explain catalytic converter theft to neighbors. We don’t worry about the house next door being turned into a halfway house.
If you move here, please assimilate and have your blue voting wives deprogrammed prior to your arrival.
I don't see how anyone with CPD couldn't be tempted to move to Florida. You can pick any city in Florida that you want. It's a big state. Doesn't pay quite as much but there are plenty of OT opportunities, and side jobs available. Prosecutors work to prosecute there.
I don't know how Cook county got so screwed up but it is a very dysfunctional government. So is CPD, and so is city hall. You have to be a masochist to want to say in Chicago at this point.
If Chicago does open those grocery stores, then write up and suspend/close as many police reports as you can boys and girls. Put down Chicago as the victim, and make as few arrests as possible.
The greater Chicago food depository was once a great organization. I have now moved away myself, so I don't have a dog in the fight. I give Chicago grocery stores under 3 years to live. Even faster if they get looted on a regular basis. I guarantee that BJ will appoint some crony to the head of the grocery store division, and that person will know nothing about the grocery business. They will make at least 250k a year before they head to another city to do damage there.

Add up your tax and insurance costs in Chiraq and then compare with red state of your choice, including FL. Don’t forget yearly vehicle tag costs.
We have a small condo on the Gulf and a home 10 miles inland. Total yearly insurance cost for both properties this year is about 6k. Total property taxes are a little over 2k. Yes 2k.
Taxes on my last property in Chicago were 7k, insurance just under 3k. Sold it this summer.
Coastal property on the Gulf has seen insurance costs skyrocket. 2020 was a brutal hurricane year. Costs should moderate if the area catches a few more years of quiet.
Remember early 2000s? Same thing happened on east coast of FL.
Hurricanes suck, been through one and several tropical storms. That said, I prefer to deal with storms/insurance instead of Chiraqi taxes, violence, and ignorance.
And oh yeah, your IROCC will not keep you safe. You will be prosecuted if you smoke a junior member of Dude Inc. when he car jacks you in your garage.

I retired and live in Florida and I can afford the insurance. yes it's more expensive but it's the price you pay for tropical paradise. I will say the pay isn't great here so you either need to be retired or have the means to make up the difference.

I hear a lot of talk about Florida. The idea is nice, but everyone forgets simple reality. States like IL, NY, and others would take decades to repair. States like FL are 1 bad governor away from being Michigan. The way things are now, they'll never be satisfied with 2 sides, they will eventually come to destroy every corner of what used to be America.
I live in Florida. It is not hot and humid all year, 4 months are really uncomfortable, however, how long are your winters in Chicago?
My car insurance is $1500/year for a new Mercedes E series. Homeowners insurance is a problem but not if you buy new construction. Roofing businesses caused the problem. I pay $2500/year, the home is insured for $750,000.

Good idea coming from a 30 year vet, who is now receiving a good pension,and free health care if your retired at 55? Florida does not offer the money, the pension yes they like the police but the cash is not there,and benefits are not as good 10 sick days a year come on man!

I'm not in law enforcement. The closest I've come is volunteering as a speaker with our Sheriff's "Crimes Against Seniors" program. But I've lived in Florida for almost 50 years, and I can tell you that most of the negative comments posted here about the state are gross exaggerations. Yes, we do experience hurricanes. But they're not frequent and don't significantly affect the vast majority of residents. A couple of the summer months are humid, but there's plenty of excellent weather most of the time to offset whatever discomfort that might cause. It's a safe bet that we have alligators wherever there is a significant body of water. However, they avoid humans and you'll likely never see one. Where I reside, on the East Coast, the crime we have is largely drug-related. I'm northeast of Orlando, and much of it comes up I-4 from there. I regularly attend COMPSTAT meetings, and I know that the case closure rate here significantly exceeds the national average. Our Sheriff is highly-regarded and very proactive in terms of training his staff and equipping them with the latest technology. He's actively seeking new deputies from the ranks of disaffected LEO working in larger northern cities. There's also a critical shortage of corrections officers here, so there are recruiting efforts underway in that area as well. I would encourage anyone who's interested to investigate opportunities available in Volusia County, Florida.
