Government Incompetence

Everyone heard about the freeway fire in LA? Something caught fire under the expressway, burned awfully hot for a while, twisted the steel beams and cracked the concrete. Now the entire structure might have to be demolished and rebuilt, inconveniencing 300,000 commuters daily.

And what burned so hot?

  • Some unknown arsonist is believed to have started Saturday's blaze, but that's not the "bad actor" to whom Berlant was referring. You see, the city government leases underpass space to people and companies for storage. In this case, "bad actors" filled the underpass with wooden pallets and containers of alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Wooden pallets stacked all the way to the ...ceiling we guess? Literally forty or fifty feet high. And sanitizer.....not boxes of little bottles, but something like this we're told:

Hundreds of gallons per container. Tens of dozens of containers.

  • The city is currently in a legal battle with a company called Airspace that leased the underpass storage area.

We'll bet they are. But it's the government - spend millions on stuff no one needs, then store it where no one pays attention, and surround it with homeless tents, propane heaters and drug addicts with now sense of personal safety...or hygiene.

Anyone see our underpasses lately?

Great idea. I mean what could possibly happen with tons and tons of combustible material underneath a major transportation artery carrying hundreds of thousands of cars and who knows how many millions of dollars in freight.....daily. I mean it's not like a bunch of junkies live nearby and it's not as though they randomly start fires or anything. No sir.

Where was Pothole Pete Buttigieg, the US Secretary of Transportation, when this occured?

Remember what he was saying in 2021, that we had a lot of racist roads that needed to be
addressed. Was this another racist California freeway? He was just over in the Ukraine pledging to help them rebuild their infrastructure from the war on our time and dime. Or was that just a cover story?!!!!!!

“Buttigieg: Infrastructure bill to address racist highway design”

Quote from Pete:
“If an underpass was constructed such that a bus carrying mostly Black and Puerto Rican kids to a beach ... in New York was designed too low for it to pass by, that ... obviously reflects racism that went into those design choices."

Just wait until the big one hits LA?

The worst damage to San Francisco was not from the Quake of 1906. It was the fires that started in the damaged buildings. Ditto the 199? Earthquake.

Yep. Calling it “Arson” takes responsibility of the gov’t. Sure, probably started by a homeless person, but don’t take your eye off the ball people.

Ya, but investigate those saying a Roart or attending a Latin Mass.
That's a narrative. Pathetic!

Well this will give the 9/11 "controlled demolition" nutjobs something new to think about after 20 years of "HUURRR bUrNInG FuEL Can'T mELt sTEeL HURRRR HURRRRR"

You don't have to melt steel to kill its structural integrity, maybe having a close-up demonstration near ground level will penetrate the tinfoil.

I’m of the mindset of not attributing these mishaps to happenstance or coincidence, but lean towards conspiracy. Seems like lately I’ve been right more times than wrong concerning past “conspiracies”.

Hand sanitizer? A closed freeway? Pfft! These California politicians are strictly small-time. They could pick up a few pointers from the real pros in Beirut.

I'm surprised it was lit on fire. I have a friend who's wife was an Alaska State Trooper covering a bunch of the Alaska Native villages during all the Covid nonsense. The alcohol based hand sanitizer sent out by the gov to the villages? Was drunk by the natives.

The same thing happened in Atlanta when the City was using the area under an I-85 overpass for storage. I don’t recall what they were storing under there exactly, but it was very combustible and burned hot enough to melt steel, which caused the highway to collapse and shut down a major interstate highway for a couple of months until they could rebuild it. Coincidentally homeless people were also living under there, but I’m sure the trashcan fires they used to stay warm had nothing to do with destroying the interstate.

With all the BS laws, rules, and regulations about storage of this, burning of that, toxic everything that causes cancer and more in California - we're to believe that somehow, someway, some "contractor" decided to store a gazillion gallons of a flammable substance underneath a highway and it just went up? Getthefuckoutaherewiththatbullshit...

Kinda like "oh gee, we have no idea where pallets of bricks came from" right before the St. Floyd riots... Bet is good that someone did it on purpose.

Tent collapse in Florida. Add a foot of snow, blizzard conditions guess what can happen.

Follow up to 17 November at 0929: A better use of the alcohol would be Sterno Cans for the Homeless. Triply useful for Lighting, Heat, and Cooking/ Boiling Water.
