A Good Idea?

This is probably a better fit than Nascar:

  • Could Formula One come to Chicago?

The racing franchise has filed for trademarks that indicate it could be planning a race in Chicago, less than a year after NASCAR held its first street race in Grant Park.

F1 applied for variations of the trademark “ Formula 1 Chicago Grand Prix ” and “ Grand Prix Chicago ” on Jan. 19, according to U.S. patent office records.

Filing trademarks could be a protective measure. But it could also show the franchise is considering a Chicago race.

From what we know of F1 racing, it's more suited for city street courses as opposed to oval track racing with banked turns. Conehead could erase the errors of Groot's disastrously negotiated money giveaway that generated little interest and even less money.

How about the Hyundai 187?

You have to steal a Hyundai, pick up your crew, drive around the streets and commit three armed robberies and finally a drive by taking out two young scholars.

Sadly the auto racing news businesses are not reliable in reporting the real story of the Nappycar Chiraq race.
They were all in on how great it was and can't wait till next time.

They are all scared of the shit show that controls auto racing named Nascrap.

Would love to know just how much Mikey Jordan had to do with it and his future hall of fame driver "Bubba"

And the city will provide the starter pistols to commence the race...

Yes, Bubba, there’s a guy that cannot Drive, but he can lie. Remember the bullshit about the noose that turned out to be a garage door pulldown handle? Wait a minute on the SUVs they’ve been making for quite a few years. There is a pull down on the hitch for the rear. Would you consider that a noose also because it is round lava wood!

F1 is very popular in Europe. I picked up on it while I overseas for a few years in the 90s. It's gaining in popularity here with urban kids because of some Netflix shows along with some recent movies like Ford v Ferrari. It's a much better racing sport than nooscar, less drama, better cars, and far far better drivers. I hope it does, LSD is a perfect track for it....

Agree, though I wonder if NASCAR would work in soon-to-be-vacated Soldier Field. (It would be a small track, but they've held a race in the LA Coliseum and in Soldier Field in the 50s and 60s.)

In 1980 then Mayor Jane Byrne proposed this. A Formula 1 race on Chicago streets. It was labeled ridiculous.

What would be the route? How many streets would have to be rebuilt to accommodate the cars? They need a road like a dance floor. Smooth and strong

One of the most iconic races in the world is the Grand Prix of Monaco. Used to be featured in the opening of Wide World of Sports. The lead in clip had the Bandini crash and fire. .

F1 raced in Vegas a month ago. Check out the build out needed to support the race and how disruptive it was to local business. Temporary walkways, bridges, fencing, crashwalls, grandstands and skyboxes. Months of set up and tear down.
(you guys have no local business to speak off, but it still will be majorly inconvenient)

F1 is best- suited for curves and HILLS. Chicago has plenty of curves, but no hills. The Windy City is flat.

Just warn Formula 1 not to have pull cords on their overhead garage doors like those raciss NASCAR stumpjumpers, this being the land of wokeism, it wouldn’t go over too well.

Royko gave this a once over, before he could only be reached by seance.

He suggested adding Chicago realism by not closing off the streets that the F1 would run on.

RIP Mike, you were brilliant.

The most entertaining racing I watched was last season in the finale of figure eight trailer racing out at Rockford Speedway. Second choice would be racing at Daytona.

How about a race that pays tribute to the Blues Brothers, seeing who can take out a certain sh!tbox Dodge (“if it’s the last thing I ever do.”)?

Well now.

Not precisely Formula One vehicles.

After all, are there any streets not pocked with potholes galor?

Now, were there to be modifications to said vehicles, say, a 12" to 18" lift, with suitable air flow cowlings to oppose the lift factor, maybe.

Much better for this to be a Monster Truck Event.

4 x 4, tires the size of obama's bloated ego, front grills molded as pouncing tiger heads, charging bulls, pissed off hippo's, striking cobra's, etc., with wide open glass packs instead of mufflers.....

Invite the doughnut dummies, with their feeble slicked up pimple rides, the bling hooptie fancies, the kia boys, and any others fool enough to get anywhere near the Monster Truck route.

For the authentic Formula One, the boulevards, thru the parks, might be sufficiently not bumpy.

The main avenues, especially the ones with planters down the middle, would be asking for trouble.

And any stretch not at least 4 full lanes, plus 2 more cleared curb to curb, would result in crash and burn the demo derby lovers would envy.

Monster Truck Event.

That's the ticket.

I’m sure the older guys out there remember they held drag races inside the International Amphitheater back in the early-mid 60’s. It didn’t last too long, I think someone ran into a steel beam under the stands and wrecked by the finish line of the short strip.

A city's major inconvenience is a grifter/grafter's wet dream.

The swag harvested in this proposal would make even stroger's hog balls sweat and tingle, and he's been dead for decades.

Better fit how? Larger faster cars trying to negotiate a very rugby nopassing track. The pole setter sure to win unless a mechanical issue or o e really stupid move. Then the number two qualifier takes the lead. You thought the NASCAR race Wes a cluster fuck the F1 race would be worse.
