DUI Charges

That Christmas Party crash has now resulted in charges:

  • A Chicago police officer is facing drunk driving charges after jumping a curb and hitting and killing a woman while off-duty last month in the River North neighborhood.

Expect a lawsuit to go along with the DUI and maybe a ban on all Christmas parties. The article actually says this was "a non-sponsored work holiday party" so who knows.

Ban certain people from coming to the party. Don’t ban the party.

Rule 1.....walk, bus, Uber, cab, wife drives to the party and back as designated driver.

Rule 2.....caps officers responsible to drive everyone with 5 miles of the party.

Christmas parties should be banned , a few years ago didn’t a female office show her lower extremities off while wearing no panties with a short dress ? how many divorces filed after these things ?? young officers don’t get jammed up with these events you can catch some good looking fish in Wrigleyville or Oakbrook never sleep with a cop

It’s about time to ban these Xmas parties. Times have definitely changed and this is something that we need to change with times. Being strong armed into buying $75 tickets and burning 8.5 every year has gotten old. As the retirement parties have changed to “cake and coffees” it’s time for these yearly Xmas parties to go by the wayside.

In this instance she says it was for her gps. Who doesn't know how to get home, when you're a cop, from the center of downtown?

Obviously, she’s connected, and if the husband of the woman that was killed was night of some prominence in law enforcement in Texas, she would’ve still walked, no fundraiser for her I hope if so, the FOP had better not be involved, because that would be tragic. We are the police we know the consequences, wonder how many DUI arrest she has made in her career so obviously whether she did arrest anybody for DUI in the past or not she knows the rules when law-enforcement breaks the rules, there are no rules just a struggle to survive, so who was connected to her why did this take so long ? Shouldn’t she also be charged with a vehicular manslaughter? I’ve talk to some other coppers they say we have all done it. No, we have not all done it. Some of us don’t do it. Some of us are responsible and understand responsibilities and also understand that if something happens like this, the impact it will have on the rest of our life, the lives of our families Due to this stupidity. Hopefully now the civil suit against her from the other family, in Texas of the woman that was killed, will not be too bad so her children can at least survive it. How soon before she has another position as a civilian somewhere in the city of Chicago?

The only thing unfortunate is the poor victim who didn’t go out and get killed. The officer in question made conscious decisions to drink and drive. There isn’t anything unfortunate for her. She needs to lose everything including her freedom. She’s not a new or young officer. She was a veteran officer who has heard over and over like many of us, not to get wasted and drive. Sorry zero empathy for this one and no 10-1 for her.

Please please please ban Christmas parties. I’m so sick of dishing out $150 around the holidays that I could spend on my family instead. Also this bitch should’ve been charged that night. Rumor is the DUI breathalyzer and other evidence has been misplaced and the body cams were malfunctioning so I’m sure she will get off. Whoever says they would have been charged that night is woefully wrong.Thats not how it works. There are multiple examples, some mentioned by CWB of similar cases charged months later. At minimum you have to wait for the blood test results, get all kinds of video from the area, interview witnesses etc. No chance she or anybody gets charged the same day under these circumstances.

The victims lawyer on tv when interviewed said that the officers BAC level was still well over the legal limit...2 hours after the accident which means the BAC level was even higher if they would have taken the test right after the incident ( like they were supposed to). Who dropped the ball or who covered it up hoping the delay would help the officers outcome??? Sorry but NO sympathy for her at all. Sad for everyone involved and another embarrassment for Chicago police overall.

That’s false, go read the cwb article, they provide examples of non police citizens involved in similar or worse accidents and it taking months to bring charges. Takes a while to test the blood sample and bring charges, but go off queen, you seem to know more than anyone else.

Many people aren’t charged the first night for multitudes of offenses. You obviously do not work in the BOD or perhaps you are not in law enforcement. You see, we have something called Felony Review of the Cook County States Attorney’s office. They decide when charges are approved and what evidence is needed for said approval. Furthermore, evidence to be tested is sent to the ISP lab. Even when a “rush” is requested, it still takes time. I hope this educated some people on how not to create rumors in an effort to criticize those investigating cases.

No we shouldn't ban the Christmas parties. How about we have more responsible off-duty coppers that don't drink excessively and then drive? Go to the party, have fun, drink all you want if you AREN'T driving yourself home. Be a responsible Chicago Police Officer!

On a side note, I stopped paying that exorbitant high price for the damn party many years ago. It is a total shake-down and then you still have to take 8.5 hours time due. The last party I went to was last year for my retirement party and that was free. Since then, it's been about 10 years.

As for the "former" CPD officer, she made her bed and now she has to lie in it. If she didn't kill someone, she probably would've been taken care of by on-duty CPD members. Once you kill someone or seriously hurt someone, on-duty personnel cannot help you out. I'm sure she will regret this decision the rest of her life.

Also was it known that she was a police officer because if not known - Street deputy/LT/IAD would not have been notified or respond.

Yeah you’re right. God forbid we all take an evening to get together and honor our retirees, let’s just ban it because some individual screwed up. You’re obviously more upset about the cost and having to burn time you cheap prick. Don’t worry, when you retire you’ll be having a get together in the nearest phone booth…

You sound just like the democrats that want to ban guns because people that should not have them, use them to kill people. We should ban booze because other people can’t handle their liquor and then ban cars because people drive drunk because obviously if there was no booze or cars this couldn’t happen.

I do agree the watch parties were more fun. It was more laid back, old beefs were settled, and the entertainment was great.

You can refuse to blow. Even in fatal accidents. Your license will be suspended. Why is everyone crying about her submitting a sample to be tested two hours later, they have scientific measurements that can backtrack to how much your alcohol levels were at the time of the accident. If I was in her shoes I would have not submitted to anything. The fifth amendment applies to us too. Who cares about getting fired for disobeying a direct order to blow administrative. If you havent noticed they dont care about garrity protections in dui cases and use the administrative blow against you in a criminal case. I would rather be fired then go to jail. They will probably upgrade charges to reckless homicide later. Either way she made a deadly mistake and an innocent person lost their life. We can go enjoy a good time with one another but use rideshare. This situation sucked all around.

She wasnt arrested on scene because some people did not do the job correctly...someone fucked up at trying to cover it up! The officer knew what she did and yet waited a month before turning herself in??? Wheres the family holding protests we demand answers and want justice?? What happened to the story about the DUI kit being lost?

I bet you were a failed miscarriage weren’t you? She was leaving a unit Christmas party honoring retirees she probably didn’t know you piece of shit. She gave up 8.5 CU hours and $100 for a party tickets to honor the retirees. This could’ve been either one of us. We’ve all made it home on a wing and a prayer at least once.

1/31/2024 07:55:00 PM
Wtf kind of asinine logic is this? Are you justifying someone drinking and driving and killing someone for retirees? Fuck them! Leave! Who the fuck cares about a retirees party?

Hope all involved get taken to the cleaners big time. Driver murdered someone and officers conspired to cover for her. More than sloppy police work was a foot in this case. Firings and lost assets should be the order of the day. Say bye to that pension as well.

1/31/2024 05:40:00 PM

im curious as to how officers covered for her, once a supervisor is called its on them to get the ball rolling. She was brought to the hospital for a blood draw, that beats any side of the road test and cpd doesn't do roadside breath test so there's that. If you are a copper you should know this would have been handled the same in any district, coppers on cpd don't do or know how to do dui's plain and simple.

Lt Jimmy D from 17, now retired, always put put on a nice spread for the troops that was catered. Did it as a Sgt in 10 when I worked there and as a Lt. Boy, I miss bosses like him. True Prince. Always looked out for the troops, rode on jobs but let you handle them and really knew his stuff. Hope you’re enjoying retirement, Boss.

Hahahha. Jimmy D got a PO pregnant at a Holoday party, while married. Had that PO dumped from the district because she had an abortion and he couldn’t look at her anymore. Such a stand up guy that Jimmy D was. But, hey at least he put out some cheese and crackers at Christmas for ya.

Oh please, she was trying to keep her cush spot or get a merit spot. Trust me, you can keep your party when I retire. I'll be far from here come 54. Give those funds to children with illness, not some retiree that wants a dog and pony show and casino dividens.Ps. she needs to work SDI and get a better wig next time. Btw, was 8.5 cu and 100 worth civil and criminal law suits??? Where are her bosses now backing her up in legal fees and future punitive and civil settlemens??? crickets. Youngsters take a page from this.

Why would Barz respond to the scene of an accident involving a PO who works for him. Wouldn’t the coverup be implied more had he been on scene and orchestrating the investigation? That is exactly why the Street deputy position exists, IAD should have come out. In situations like this, it’s best to bring in people who can say they’re impartial to the investigation. Having people she worked with or for on scene was def not how this should have been handled.

".9 is not really drunk as to lose control of a vehicle. Dropping a phone and picking it up is totally stupid. Should she be fired, yes. Should she be sued, yes. Should she face justice, yes. Should she, and not the city, be
financially responsible, yes."

You fool... that is what you got out of all of this.
.9 is over the legal limit BY LAW
.9 is drunk enough to affect one's motor skills and decision making
ie, drop a cell phone while driving and then try to pick it up while still driving.

I'm sure YOUR that copper that drives plastered all the time and just hasn't been caught or killed anyone YET.

You should be the person to tell the person she killed family why she was drunk but just had an oops with her cell phone.

But you guys have no problem locking up coppers mother's for traffic offenses. Thankfully the guy that did that retired after he had the lakefront argument with the broad who wouldn't leave the park after closing hours. Karma is a bitch.

You don’t win, drinking and driving being high and driving. It eventually catches up with you. How dumb can you be?

Whatever you have, they will go away after punitive damages. The city should not be forced to pay out millions of dollars off duty again we the taxpayers are responsible wow she did it she needs to pay the penalty also for the PPP loans she took she needs to have the feds look into it now hopefully God willing the woman’s husband that she killed who is connected in law enforcement in Texas can wake up the federal people and get them to look into these PPP loans start now start locking these people up there took the loans yep even the stupid coppers the exempt ranks that quickly retired

Wow, and you’re allowed to vote?

Yeah, let’s punish adults who can handle their liquor and attend events without getting smashed and being responsible because someone else didn’t.

While you’re at it, take guns away from all cops because someone had a negligent discharge for mishandling a weapon or take cars away because someone was in an accident.

How about the person involved take responsibility for their actions and have their day in court and the rest go on with their lives responsibly..

Typical liberal..

.9 aint shit dependeing on your tolerance.

even MADD originally stated they thought lowering the standard from 1.0 to.8 was too drastic ... anyone remember that

me myself, I can;t drink much lately, so .9 I'd end up in the lake

I remember writing a DUI when I first came on it was about 1995 in 014. Mexican guy blew a 4.3 no joke saved the dui printout for a while ... truly a professional ... like 1 in the afternoon watch commander just allowed him in to lock-up too. should've gone to the hospital.

You guys have to go back to DUI school.

The level for DUI is 0.08

HUGE differences

The point at which impairment begins is usually around 0.04 but varies by body weight and "experience" with alcohol

Medical experts have said they can do surgery on people with a BAC of 0.4 without anesthetic, but most persons at that level are deceased.

Anyone claiming to have seen a 0.9 was obviously looking at a preserved specimen in a laboratory jar as life cannot actually exist in an environment that is 90% alcohol.
