A bunch of supervisors telling everyone it's time to prep for the Sergeant Exam!

Well that was certainly....interesting. And "diverse."

Not one caucasian in that mentor group. But, I did recognize a few people connected to a past subject matter expert from a couple of tests from the past. This is very insulting and straight up racist. This is the new city of Chicago, unbelievable. They do not even try to hide the total hatred for the caucasian police officers. This city is Detroit on steroids.

I have been a (Non-Merit) sergeant now for over 20 years.
I hold an advanced degree.
I am also White.
That is okay that you didn't even ask me to speak in the video.

For you see, I am busy on my laptop in the hole ALL DAY as I look for property in the 2nd Congressional district of Tennessee where there has not been a Democrat since 1855 (and he was a slave owner) Also, Netflix keeps me VERY busy.

I will let all of you highly qualified half-wit merits run the department and the city into the ground.

If you really want to get back at this department since we have a no strike clause, everyone should stand strong and boycott taking this test. This simple action will show that the we are fed up with the way the promotional system has been faulted. Could you imagine the money lost. Everything from merit to cheats will abolished. This would put the city in a crazy downward spiral and having the bosses try to figure out as to why this happened. This department has lowered the standards and allowed us to be the scape goat long enough. Why should we have to pay to take a promotional test. How is it fair that the ones that deserve the position and can lead are scrapped. This would be the first time in history that a test was cancelled because no one wanted the position. This is the only way for us to be treated the way we should be treated. Hold this city and the powers to be accountable. Come on people these puppet masters want to hold us accountable, it’s time we hold them accountable. DONT TAKE THE TEST!!! See what their next move is. It’s time they work for us. We are the ones out there patrolling only to have our hands tied. This is the police they want let’s give it to them. Especially when they won’t have enough supervisors for the DNC and would love to see how they abide to the consent decree now. Priceless, it’s time we take back the streets, it’s time we force the city’s hand to abolish COPA, it’s time we Unite as brothers and sisters in Blue. Wow informative video, how many of the speakers in the video are merit. They must see not a lot of officers applying for the test and they needed to put this video out. This is disgraceful and the department should be ashamed how quickly the morale is dropping. I show up, answer calls and give paper in return pay me! Shame on any copper that is engaging in car chases, foot chases, only to be fed to the wolves. Stay safe and check the money box boys and girls. This is classic hahahahaha.

My kids were were more assertive and engaging doing scripture readings at mass in grammar school or speaking off script accepting awards.

A total embarrassment and prima facie evidence of everything wrong with supervision on this job. Yet one more example why there’s pretty much zero confidence in CPD management. THESE chumps are to be tasked with protecting the best interests of subordinates? Ppffhhttt!!

All of the promotions from those “leaders” were MERITORIOUS. And I mean all of them and all of their promotions. From detective, to sergeant, to higher in the command chain, all meritorious. On Wednesday Chuck Goudie wrote a column about traffic/street stops saying more blacks were stopped in proportion to their numbers in the population which is 27 per cent while whites represent 32 per cent.

Took the promotion to sergeant (score) from detective (score) several years ago. No where near as rewarding, but the money is decent and the OT is always there. It can be a headache, but it’s still easier to supervise than doing the actual police work. Drafting search warrants, going to court regularly, making arrests and most annoyingly, answering to idiot supervisors pushing you for more, when they themselves never had that kind of work ethic. The worst are the supervisors Lt. and above, that were “workers” for maybe a couple years of their careers and now they want you, the guy that’s been doing it for many years, to do more and more. There are now 8 year wonder sgts that have done a fraction of the police work that is necessary to “mentor and teach” the new do nothings coming on.

When I was promoted to Sgt, one of the first things I did was to check everyone’s work background, arrest history, medical history, etc, since you get more access to databases that are restricted to the PO ranks.

K9 and supervisor both are unattainable to the average unclouted po. Period. That’s just the sad reality of the job. Focus on ET instead. I took the exam in 2014(?) and was just recently promoted last year. Took half my career to make it out of patrol. Never made it to any unit and have applied to them all. Years of experience pushing a beat car, answering jobs and acquiring job knowledge is meaningless on CPD.

I wonder why morale is so low and I wonder why this department is scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to hiring recruits. Snelling says he doesn’t want scarecrow policing, but by the looks of the crew with under 5 years on this job that’s all they do. However, I can’t really blame them because no one wants effective policing anymore. Imagine how many carjackings, robberies, shootings etc. old school effective policing would have prevented.

I just love how she says "everyone should take" the sergeants' exam. Wrong! People who have no business being a police supervisor is one of the top reasons this department sucks ass. A good officer should be honest with themselves about the responsibility. Better to be short-handed with sergeants that back their officers than have an over abundance of incompetent half-wits and medical abusers like we have now. Lots of our coworkers want the sergeant title but not the sergeants' work.

What was missing ? The sergeants test is a complete joke . Arthur Anderson proctored the first sergeant test I ever took . The results went back to the candidates and the results were not to the likings of the Mayor and the politicians at whole . They then decided to have Ernst & Young proctor the exam . There was group of five exempt members out rhe test together . Amazing how many drivers , girlfriends and family mentees did so well . Throw in affirmative action and the chance of getting promoted is nil . I talked to the Union who basically said “ we don’t care !” Try your best kid and study ! Watch people who never made an arrest critique your arrest when they become a sergeant . Way too sad !

I have a good source at PSHQ.

Here is how CPD will do all promotional exams. Part one will always be pass or fail. Part two will now be an "assessment exercise". Imagine two candidates enter the testing site. Candidate # 1 studied and candidate # 2 did not study. Both candidates will be on equal grounds because the bar for the "assessment exercise" will be set so low that everyone does well. This way, the department automatically gets their diversity. At the same time, everyone is happy because now you don't need to study hard to get promoted. The only people who are pissed are the tiny small percentage that studied.


LOL. LOL. LOL. I gotta hand it to the CPD.

The testing company will also purposefully write certain questions or scenarios that can easily be challenged. They do this for legal reasons. They cover their own ass by saying "the test can not be biased because we allowed candidates to challenge the questions or scenarios".

So you see how the CPD covered all of their bases? It's all legit folks.

Wow, they really thought that one out. To exclude one race from a video is flat out racist. Telling sign the direction they want this department to move foward. I retired 3 years ago and I only knew 2 of those supervisors and one of them (ROC), myself and another sergeant fixed all his paperwork so his officers wouldn't get screwed. That was a depressing video.

Just yesterday I wrote about racism within the department, among ourselves and there it is in this video. But let's be honest this is reversed racism nothing new except that it discriminates against whites but for decades the department has discriminated against non-whites. Why do you think there were no openings for decades in the Northside districts, because they didn't want non-whites but just a few. So before you start complaining learn the history of this racist department. Personally I don't agree with this at all, everyone who is qualified should get the opportunity. I'm Latino, so I'm in between and we have felt it, I sure have.

Why even be a sergeant when detectives get paid nearly the same. Why start back at the bottom of the seniority list and work 1st watch on patrol?

A lot of experienced officers/detectives won't take the test. But those are the people who should be getting promoted.

If you really want to get back at this department since we have a no strike clause, everyone should stand strong and boycott taking this test. This simple action will show that the we are fed up with the way the promotional system has been faulted. Could you imagine the money lost. Everything from merit to cheats will abolished. This would put the city in a crazy downward spiral and having the bosses try to figure out as to why this happened. This department has lowered the standards and allowed us to be the scape goat long enough. Why should we have to pay to take a promotional test. How is it fair that the ones that deserve the position and can lead are scrapped. This would be the first time in history that a test was cancelled because no one wanted the position. This is the only way for us to be treated the way we should be treated. Hold this city and the powers to be accountable. Come on people these puppet masters want to hold us accountable, it’s time we hold them accountable. DONT TAKE THE TEST!!! See what their next move is. It’s time they work for us. We are the ones out there patrolling only to have our hands tied. This is the police they want let’s give it to them. Especially when they won’t have enough supervisors for the DNC and would love to see how they abide to the consent decree now. What is missing is the test with the answers. Good luck to the legitimate and honest test takers who do not have the test with the answers and do not have the connections to make it through merit. Your chances of making it are slim to none. Yes, it is fair to say that the top scorers are mostly cheaters, notice the word "mostly." A few might make it on their own, just my two cents.

If you are a white officer in Chicago, leave now while the getting is good. There are departments all over the state and the country dying to hire lateral coppers because everywhere is short staffed. Make the move, take your family and live a better life. Chicago and Cook County are goners. There’s nothing left for you here. Even if you stay and get promoted, you’ll be the one doing everyone else’s work, and you’ll get passed over for any further promotion barring some miracle. Go to a suburb that pays well and send your kids to public school and save the Catholic school tuition. I love Chicago, grew up here, but it’s not the same and it’s never coming back. They don’t want you, and they never will so leave them to their own devices and take care of yourself and your family.

They forgot to say....But officers please remember no matter how hard you study and no matter how well you do we still need approximately 6 months to manipulate the results so that we can be fair to all races. We must promote 1/3 white a 1)3 black and a 1/3 Hispanic so to be fair for all. Lol we understand that with most departments you are handed your score before you leave the room because it's scantron or with more lengthy tests you get the results in less than 30 days. Good luck to all of you and good luck the leadership in this department the last 10 years has been an embarrassment and highly incompetent.

To the comment saying we should boycott the test to get rid of merit, I 100% agree with you. BUT, 90% of POs are all talk. I was stripped and took time for the portal nonsense. The vast majority did not. That was the last time I stuck my neck out personally for my brothers and sisters in blue. You all showed me how we can’t stick together. The Department is scrambling to hire young White Men because they are no longer taking the job and hiring of them is down 200%. Yet the Department is actively trying to promote any and everyone who is NOT White!

They want White Males to do the hands on stuff and keep proactive policing like pawns on a chess board but are no way interested in having them have any control or say in department policy or strategy.

On a serious note, good luck to those that will put the effort in. Made Detective in 2003, Sergeant 2006 and Lieutenant in 2019 before leaving for greener pastures. Sergeants are the "bread and butter" of the Department. Give it a chance
