It ain't just Chicago that's dying. Jabba the Governor is killing Illinois, too:
Workers at factories in Illinois have been hit by mass layoffs and closures in recent months.
Since the start of 2024, four factories in Illinois have announced they will make more than 1,000 employees redundant due to manufacturing costs, revenue losses and the need to relocate operations. The Quaker Oats Company, Blommer Chocolate Company, Rivian and Monterey Mushrooms have all announced or enacted layoffs since January this year.
And this is a continuing outflow of factory work fleeing Illinois.
It also doesn't help that the corporate tax rate here is higher than each and every state that surrounds Illinois, so it's just easier to open a factory or business just over the border.

Bloomer Chocolates has been around here for 85 years. When they said they were closing they cited growing maintence and an old building. They are the largest chocolate ingredient supplier in North America. With them being the largest supplier they are just closing? They must have most of the market. I live across the border in Northewest Indiana. They are building numerous multi thousand square feet buildings without any tenants in anticipation of companies fleeing Illinois and other high tax states. They can’t build houses fast enough to accommodate the influx of people fleeing Illinois. They’re cheap crackerbox houses but no one seems to mind

Vivian and all the other auto makers jumped on the BS Biden EV bandwagon. Start throwing HUGE amounts of money into vehicles, design and plant production.
But reality set in. People in California who bought EVs couldn't recharge them. People in the midwest and colder regions were stranded when the vehicle range dropped to about 1/3.
What public support and demand for EVs there was vaporized. They are at best a niche item. People who have them have them working for them. But that is about the extent of their demand.
The automakers see this and are turning away from them. The construction of the Rivian plant was started back in the heyday. The project developed inertia and now is too far along to stop.
The governor of Illinois has made life much better for any state that borders Illinois...

It's already started. People are looking for red states to raise a family and/or retire. They screwed up the place they live by voting for far-left policies but look down on blue states for their positions. Same just over border in Wisconsin. Amazon has two huge complexes off of 94. Bill the Creep Gates bought up a lot of acreage and I hear will be building a server farm or some other villainous venture. I’m seeing a lot of farmland for sale up there, and construction of multi unit apartment buildings/townhouses. Time for me to move further into the sticks, cause country folk can survive.

CV NEWS FEED // Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago (CCAC) recently announced that it will lay off 300 employees as a result of cutting down government contracts, explaining in part that “funding has not kept up with the high rates of inflation.”
CCAC will end 75 government contracts in July, “as part of a new strategic plan that Catholic Charities says will shift its business model to rely less on public funding,” local outlet Chicago Sun Times
The contracts, which fund 12% of its budget, cover child care, youth programs, behavioral health counseling, senior care, adult protection, veteran services and call centers. The group declined to share the names of the contracts.
CCAC serves over 400,000 people annually, especially low-income seniors, people in crisis, youth, women, and veterans
