Someone was griping about the 3-day Field Force training. One way to avoid it (as we found) was to announce your intent to retire prior to the DNC. They didn't even schedule us for it.
But we were more concerned about something else:
- eye protection against laser damage
We've seen dozens of reports, from here and abroad, about laser pointers being used to "paint" aircraft cockpits, potentially blinding pilots. The FAA has issued all sorts of warnings, many LEO Confidential, so we'll not be posting those.
There are also reports, again from here and abroad, of lasers being used against police in riot/mob situations and Officers suffering significant irreversible eye-damage.
Is there a plan to address any of this? We'll be gone, but we can be concerned for those who are left.

The only common sense plan is to buy yourself a pair that fits however it has to.
This is an insidious hazard for what’s coming up. Once you develop eye problems from any means there is really no turning back. Research protection that’s out there and spend the money no matter how much. Don’t rely on the CPD to take care of you.
Your riot helmet should have the red strip running along the face shield.

That's near UV all the way well into infrared.
Visible light is 400-700nm.

Here's some blue-green-red beam glasses with ANSI Z87.1 impact protection. I'd get the ones w/the wraparound to protect against beams getting in from the sides.

FEDS will arrive with all sorts of high speed eye protection issued by D@RP@. FEDS will also not wear any identifying tapes on their uniforms to later be doxxed and harassed. I was laser flashed in the eyes once. Blinded me for a bit. Permanent damage. Everything is fuzzy now. My eyes are screwed for life. You should put snipers on the building and engage anyone using a laser. Fuck them. They are trying to take your vision, lethal force should be authorized.
ULINE sells a pair of glasses that protect from lasers for about $170 and they can be worn with or w/o a helmet. It's something people might want to thrown some uniform money into. The dept won't provide it except for the shield on the helmet, but, that does no good if they push the "soft" look and won't let you put the helmet on.
Only common sense plan to avoid this is schedule a surgery if you can’t retire before this shitshow.
No Officer should be required to put their last name on any garment or piece of equipment in today’s world. Any any boss that demands they do should be tarred and feathered. Only star numbers should be visible. In today’s world you are endangering the lives and safety of Officers by placing last names on outer garments.

The new helmets with the red strip are a heartbeat short of worthless.
They only work against red lasers, you have to tip your head down and look thru the strip to get any protection at all and you have to get hit with a laser to know when to tip your head. At that point, in many cases, it’s too late.

Someone needs to get a documented response from the department stating that laser pointers can or may cause great bodily harm. Respond accordingly with use of force orders and charge offenders accordingly.

The problem with eye protection for lasers is that its frequency-specific. It works by being opaque in and around the expected frequency (as lasers are monochromatic).
Since there are many different colors of laser, including IR and UV, that could be deployed, you would pretty much have to have eyewear that was opaque from near-IR through the visual spectrum to near-UV;)

Well, I would say it's for uniforms, which doesn't include laser-resistant glasses, but it's actually just a way to increase police salaries without actually increasing the salary. You think it's for buying new uniforms and equipment every few months? That's adorable. If they wanted it to be used strictly for uniforms and equipment, they could easily use vouchers or a reimbursement system. It's a general add-on to increase salary... that's all.

That is truth we have history being made so many coppers especially so called males still living in moms basement, as mommy makes the meatloaf and making sure Star Wars Jammie’s are warm! But alas they are still macho driving jacked up jeeps and pickups with smoked windows. Opps almost forgot have to have the punisher decals prominently placed!
I was part of a program that got lasers issued to military guys in Iraq. The thought was, if you got close to our convoy, temporarily blinding them was more humane than shooting them dead. Worked like a champ when used. They were pretty cool. They pivoted about 2 to 4 degrees, were weapon mountable. So you could aim it at them, and it would not always be in their eyes. They lasers these dipshits are using aren't them. They are single beam focused and they will point it straight at you guys.
There's video of a protest somewhere, either NYC or in Europe. They were pointing the lasers at the drivers of police vehicles. Go on Amazon and get some glasses. They make them. I am not sure how effective they are? But it will be far better anything this department issues you guys.

This is a real tactical problem. Yes at night they will cut your vision, and at night is when the antfia scum will appear to attack. Night vision googles could give you the best at night and if a laser hit them, only the NVG would be damaged. NVG is a real expensive tool to use effectively and needs a lot of training.
