No One Noticed?

All those GPS trackers and automated bus / train notifications to show how efficiently the CTA is burning through your tax dollars, and this happened last year?

  • A Block Club Chicago investigation into the circumstances around Lyons’ death raises questions about the safety of CTA drivers as the agency is touting improved working conditions in an attempt to bolster its staff.

Block Club’s reporting found Lyons sat in her bus unconscious for nearly an hour before someone eventually sought help. CTA supervisors neglected to check on her even though the bus never moved and subsequently failed to arrive at more than 50 scheduled stops.

The CTA failed to report the incident to the Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Administration despite a state law requiring it. The CTA wouldn’t explain why or answer Block Club’s questions about this incident, saying it was limited by privacy concerns.

“Out of respect for Ms. Lyons’ family, we are unable to provide any more details about her service record,” CTA spokesperson Maddie Kilgannon said in a statement. “We can, however, note that as soon as our 24/7 Operations Control Center was notified of Ms. Lyons’ condition the night of July 20, 2023, first responders were on scene within a couple of minutes.”

A couple of minutes.....after she sat dying or dead for over an hour in a bus turnaround. Great system you got there Ms Kilgannon.

No GPS reading on a non moving bus? No notifications that a "ghost bus" wasn't appearing where those automated notifications say it was? No CTA supervisor in an SUV checking on which routes and runs were operating on-time or behind? And after all these failures, the CTA even refused to make a report to OSHA as required by law.

The CTA eats up how much of the city budget with all these "modernizations" and they all failed?

I worked for the CTA as an operating employee. You always had to call the Control Center for any emergency to summon help for crime, fire & EMS. There were ways to call 911 directly as CTA has it’s own internal phone system. The bus & train radios connect to the control center. There was a lot of lost information from when it left you, to the control center who pass it on to OEMC. When the first responders arrived and you spoke to them they would tell you that’s not the information we were given! It’s too bad the CTA employees cannot speak directly to OEMC.

I’d like to see the top admins in CTA. Just want to see if they have something in common with practically every Dept head in this city.

Yeah, that's all well and good, but that's a function of CFD, not CTA. Someone in the ops center called 9-1-1. BFD. That's what they're supposed to do.

About 10 years ago, a guy was arrested in 011 for PSMV of a CTA bus. He was dressed as a CTA supervisor, had a stolen CTA radio and keys, and had been driving a CTA bus around unnoticed for about one week. He admitted to picking up passengers around the city, but wouldn’t say why. The only personal property that he was carrying was a backpack full of fruit flavored condoms. CTA kept the incident very quiet and it never made the news papers.

Anyone recall how during the plandemic the cta was running empty buses all day? Drivers were making bank basically doing nothing! Actually, nothing has really changed since then. Public funds are a license to steal.

There is no tech that can thwart the potent powers of a sleeping employee.

Maybe shock collar triggered by monitoring software program.

Sadly the woman had some health issues but it shows the agency lacks empathy for her family and doesn’t care about their employees or their riders just hop on a bus or a train it’s quite obvious

It's a setup for a family lawsuit. Get the money out now, you're gonna be paying. The incident, while tragic, was not 100% preventable. She dies driving a bus, that's it.

What CTA Operations doesn’t acknowledge is that the first emergency responders on the scene were from the Oak Lawn Fire Department.

These systems are only as good as the people monitoring them and who do you think they are? An alderman's idiot nephew...some DEI hire who come to work high if at all or worst of all a CPS graduate. This just adds to the death spiral described in an above post.

The bus driver that finally checked on her called 911 directly from a gas station across the street.

In CTA's defense, most of their buses don't move much.

I knew bus drivers back in the day. Just to blow off steam they would play "Bus on the Loose" and drive it as they saw fit, anywhere, for an hour or two. Kind of like a cop finding a hole.

Affirmative action hire runs the CTA. He is expected to screw up and have no accountability. Remember about 30 years ago when the elevated system had a rash of accidents due to the operators being high. CTA's response this was the operators first job it is not there fault.

Another $70 million in grants for the so-called non for profit "NGOs" for the migrant crisis scam.

Who's getting the money? There is no oversight. It's a money laundering scam to fund Democrat party supporters buying votes.

Like the PPP with no oversight.

One crisis after another to use as excuses to hand out tax money with no Accountability no oversight. The Help the Homenless grants the radical equity grants the gay rights grants the Chicago public indoctrination and sex trafficking and grooming grants won't something of the children bullshit.

It's all a money grabing scam. Anything getting better NO it's not. The goal is to keep the "crisis" going and the money flowing to the so called NGOs that are actually Democrat brown shirts

You forgot he was only 14 yrs old and a week later changed careers and went into 003 dress as a police officer and worked part of a shift before being caught. Not surprisingly he did more work than anyone else that day and was named officer of the month in 003.

Even the most sophisticated GPS monitoring system is useless if nobody is paying attention to it.

I suspect that the CTA Control Center personnel were talking and joking, with half an ear out for radio calls and not paying a bit of attention to their fancy GPS locator system.

It takes people actually paying attention to notice a bus not moving for too long.

And you have to wonder how common it is for bus drivers who aren’t having medical emergencies to take an over-long “break” at their turn-around point…
