Heat Builds
A hot stretch of days is probably going to shine another unwanted spotlight on crime after a particularly bloody weekend.
Yeah yeah, we know McCompStat told us all that weather doesn't have anything to do with crime. We also know McCompStat was (and remains) an idiot. Weather has quite a bit to do with crime, and this string of days with overnight temps remaining in the upper 70s is going to shorten a lot of tempers.
The other thing this "heat dome" reminds us of is 1995 where hundreds of dead bodies were undiscovered for days and then the Morgue got inundated with bodies. That was one of our first experiences with an actual crisis as the police and long before the "body snatchers" existed. It was not a fun time.
Stay cool if you can. Check on your neighbors.

Wash that vest often during the summer. That body sweat accumulates and if not washed, it smells really bad.
I was in the academy during the 1995 summer. Terow nearly killed us, push ups in the parking lot in the afternoon.
A few days in the 90s is not a deadly heatwave. Yet all we hear are the hysterical clowns on the TV weather screeching about how we are all gonna self immolate because it gets a little hot....in June. I'm so sick and tired of media trying to gaslight people into thinking what used to be considered normal is now catastrophic.
All these hot days and people whining about it being hot reminds me of an old Hill Street Blues Episode: "Fill a tub with cool water, and sit in it."
Seems like that could work these days, or do we need to consider Air Conditioning as another "Basic Human Right" and give that away free too?
Shit, nevermind. no one tell the Democrats...
If the aldermutt is again sleeping in a tent tonight, does the aldermutt's tent have air conditioning?
Wax nostalgic for those summer days when you were assigned to the wagon? And you would journey over to the lake to cool off and watch the pretty girls. Then that dreaded call would come, see the manager at an SRO about a missing tenant. Upon arriving the residents of the building would be in the lobby in a panic. As soon as you walked in you could smell it. You would ask, is the person you haven't seen in two weeks just down the hall? No, he lives on the 8th floor. Right then it would hit you, a major moving job from an explosion. The move to the hospital, then to the old morgue. No lunch, and no going back to the lake until you had all your clothes cleaned especially the wool dress pants you had to wear. I would rather return to those days because no one would dare do to us as they are doing to you today. Stay safe.
Kid forget 1995, I retired 56 years ago and I remember the summer of 48, that was a hot one. Now let me get back to my prunes.

Climate change brings out the savage in most civil societies...
How about diverting that "Reparations" study money to buy air conditioners for the poor and downtrodden. If they had air in their apartments they won't be sitting out on the stoop at 3 am getting shot at. At least the bodies won't be piling up.
just some silliness.
Nothing worse than maggot pie stinkers. Some guys smeared noxema under the old nose and some soaked after shave into cigarette filters and shoved them up their schnooz. Worked once with an old swizzle sticks wagon man who helped himself to a sandwich out of this poppers fridge while we were waiting for the dics.
Ahhh, summer in the city, loud-reports ringing out south and west with chalkie at full speed; stinkers wafting through the night air.

I'm Mexican and I am super MAGA. Most Hispanics are very conservative, pro family, less government, church going and pro law and order.
Remember Sgt. Galvez says to drink lots of water...and females put up your damn hair.
‘95 was awful for wagonmen. Also, everyone forgets July of ‘88. That was another hot summer with lots of dead for the wagons. Old people were too cheap to run the ac and were too afraid of their neighbors to open a window.
Dead bodies were an everyday occurrence. You learned how to bag em real quick .
Summertime and the livin is easy
Police are jumpin and the Lads is high…
The ripe ones were the nastiest.
Remember the LaGrout (spelling) trailers used to store the bodies? Observe the coolers at taste of Chicago, it’s ironic.
Was a PPO the Summer of 1995 during heatwave. Due to being lowest on seniority, I got the wagon for the entire weekend. I can’t even remember the ridiculous amount of bodies we had to haul. Several uniforms went into the trash that weekend because I wasn’t even going to walk into our house with those on.
I smoked at the time.and learned my first lesson from my FTO. We entered the second floor of an apartment building and “The smell” hit us. FTO asked for two cigarettes from me, then snapped them in two and put the filters up his nose. That helped but no one will ever forget that smell after that weekend.
Thankfully retired now. Stay safe everyone and be careful during DNC.

Yes, even in prisons, and they continue to whine about states prisons w/o ac. Must be racism or something, eh.
Heard it would cost 582 million to put ac in all Texas prisons, as of 2022. Myriad of better uses for that money.
With everyone going to "green energy" it will be interesting to see if Chicago has any brownouts in its electrical grid this summer. If there is a blackout, like NYC had years ago, the you know what will hit and break the fan.
Forget about the assholes in South, West sides .. Above normal temps in the 90s ,into 1st week of July .. stay safe...take care
Wonder who will get the reefer truck contract this time....
Can you feel it? Woooo hooooo
I can feel the heat....
down in my plummmms.
I remember a lot of dry heaving while looking at corpses with exploded stomachs and maggots eating the brains. All before breakfast.
Where are the aldermen? Chicago’s population of blacks is maybe 30% . The mayor is racist 60+% of Chicago is Asians,Caucasian,Hispanic and multiracial & illegal immigrants. Many of the black community have been receiving reparations for 3-4 generations in forms of housing ,food stamps, breakfast and school lunches. None have been slaves and have been abusing the welfare system.
Time for a recall of conehead and reduce alderman by 60% .
I truly believe the 60% that failed to vote will vote in 2027.

Well , race should not matter in November. FJB is destroying the middle class of America. Harris is on charge of securing our borders, we see she’s incompetent. FJB is a very sick man, mentally and physically. They refused to charge him with crimes because of his mental health.
Illegal immigrants have jumped ahead of the black welfare scammers. Biden tells blacks beware of white supremacy, yet he allows blacks to be gunned down like rabid dogs every in democratic run cities . Overdose deaths of blacks, poverty, poor educational system.
The city providing the body removal service was one of the greatest contract victories we’ve EVER been provided. Unless you worked in 1995 you will never know that, “Oh shit not again” feeling. I just remember even months after the summer not smelling or feeling clean especially after people just exploded, windows that looked like black shades from all the flies and rotting covered in maggots. You were so miserable because of the heat and extreme humidity you’d go home with your eyes burning from constant sweat in them. I’d always bring my stuff home, take 2 showers, double wash my uniforms and wish I’d have never taken the job. I’m retired now but still don’t see any humor in that summer. If the city tries to take it away fight as hard as you can for it.
Paco Balderrama: Police chief in Fresno, California. He was recently placed on paid leave as the city is investigating an alleged inappropriate relationship he had with another officer's wife, the Los Angeles Times reported.
paco if you learneed anything take a page from both the current and past cpd exempt leadership
never play around and keep your johnson inside your johnson
Terro was a great guy, one of the last real men at the academy.
For at least 40 years Area Five would have missions giving out fans to the Black residents, no Whites were given the opportunity to receive fans. And back then they claimed racism due to the fact we did not give them air conditioners.

I feel the weather does have something to do with crime, don't know why that is but it is that way in my opinion
Up here in Edgebrook we continue to "not shoot" anyone even with the hot temps. Why is that you think ?
Off topic - I hear moves next week. Anyone have anything? 6 captains short 4 commanders short - a 1st deputy short and who’s getting dumped. Who’s got the scoop.

I was there also and was working a wagon. I never minded the dead except for the smell. I felt we was doing what needed to be done. I always tried to treat the deceased with respect. It was always the living Politicians and Democrats that were way worse then the deceased.

Remember the public was told that the refrigerated trailers would be destroyed so they could be never used for food after being used to store the dead. I always wondered.......
How many of those that died in 95 voted for FJB in 2020
There is an SOS on invaders in Edgebrook.

Holy Cow! You retired during the 1968 Democratic Convention!! Tell us some stories from that time Great Great Gramp!
Awesome
1999 apparently was not the worst but for this recruit on his first summer tour on the wagon in 007, boy you learned a lot. If they only gave sergeant pay back then for moving the bodies, my house would have been paid off 5 years sooner. Old wagon guys loved to tell the story of the recruit who was told to pick up the top end of the body and then the head fell off, it was like an old deflated basketball. They couldn't tell that story without cracking up.

It was a great victory for the company that got the contract to move the bodies. As I recall, they get around $800 per body. I'd rather have that myself. That's more expensive than getting 9171 out of grade pay.
After moving a few bodies, one got used to the smell, and as far as the uniform went, any day in the hood can make your uniform nasty enough to throw out. Keep a laundry basket in the garage for that.
Yo, Edgebrook dude, don’t make me put a cap in your ass. I gets mighty ornery when my tightly whiteys get soaked from sweat.

So, about that bridge you wanted to buy. We have a few others available for sale, can I interest you in a two-fer? Give ya a deal!
The worst dead bodies involved horrible stinkers were they had a dog. Needless to say if you don’t feed your dog for a week you become Fidos dinner. Stuff right out of nightmares and the dogs always became psycho mean protecting their owner.

Don't forget that the CTU wants 9% raises annually in the next contract...
Fork over 'dem reparationz and sheet ya'll
All these wagon tales! I remember I heard the one 15 years ago where a PPO got caught by the watch commander taking a dump in the back of a wagon in the district lot. He was fired on the spot. (I think it was in 014)? Dunno...could have been an urban legend but if it's true that "fly-dumper" would definitely be hired back on today's dept.
Hurry, close North Avenue Beach! It’s a ‘heat emergency’ and the sand is loaded with violent ‘teens’ who can’t swim….
Our idiot mayor says that air conditioning is racist. He wants to give free AC units to all his people so that they can keep it on full-blast 24/7. You pay for it, says Clown Brandon.

Shuffle chairs on the titanic it still goes down just like cpd, bloated gold star clown club!
The guy dropping a deuce in the back of the wagon is true. It was in 018 in the Cabrini green complex. There was also a guy working 99 who locked himself in the back seat cage of a squad car in a north side district while going pee pee into a Pepsi bottle. He didn't want to leave the stolen car he was watching while waiting for the tow truck. The only problem was that the car was up on milk crates minus four wheels.
Be interesting to see the HeyJackass stats for Juneteenth. I bet certain communities will be celebrating in style!
The "weather can't be used as a reason that crime is on the rise" pre-dates Compstat. I was a sergeant in the 90s and our boss would have us each write reports on why our crime was up in the district so he could submit a report to the Chief of Patrol. I remember one of our sergeants simply wrote, "I am assigning my two best officers, Officer SNOW and Officer RAIN to address these issues." The bull-sh*t continues.
McCompstat served his purpose! He was brought in to make the very real crime magically disappear through Compstat & reclassification or outright refusal to report/compile & so Obummer could host NATO/G8 without much ruckus! Other than that, he didn't have the Moral Fortitude to tell the truth when he was the Sup. and we all know what happens to Cops when they've been proven "untruthful"...that is unless you're a Useful Idiot of the Establishment!

Dare I inquire....
Were you the queen?
'87 and '88 were bad too. Working that wagon with all those stiffs coming out of the old folks tenements. The old people cant smell to good so by the time we got the call the stiffs were maggot ripe. I remember one so bad we had to call CFD to help us shovel him up and bag him. So we go to the hillbilly funeral home on Sheridan RD with the stiff and the guy there says "the guy who handles you guys is off so come back tomorrow".
I just happened to be off the next day and when my partner went by the Federal pricks had the video camera rolling. And the funny thing ? My partner went and bought one of those huge Eli's cheese cakes for the firemen with his end. A month or so later he gets a knock on the door while I didn't out of sheer day off group luck. Good guy too, he told the Feds and the Dept. to get fucked and he quit and didnt even bother with the pension. He was already a millionaire from honest property deals and hard work.
I almost quit to. Let these Federal pricks shovel up a few of these heat wave stiffs and then see if they have a problem with a bone thrown your way. I liked the girls but they were prima donnas that wouldn't go near a stiff. My fucking luck the wagon guys liked me. I was strong as a bull and wasn't a beefer and in general the dead didn't bother me.
I "see" dead people yaknow.
