Seriously Stupid Scandal
We (and others with long memories) are worried this might be the start of a bad number of years of scandals. And it's a type of scandal that we've already seen a number of times:
Chicago’s top cop has moved to fire a group of tactical officers suspected of stealing drugs and money and lying about the source of guns they took off the street without making arrests.
Officers Daniel Fair, Jeffery Morrow, Kevin Taylor and Rupert Collins are accused of engaging in misconduct the Civilian Office of Police Accountability deemed “substantial and irrefutable.”
In one case, Fair and Taylor took cash and marijuana during a vehicle search, COPA said in a report dated Jan. 26. GPS records show they drove to Fair’s block after the search and the contraband was never inventoried.
Fair and Morrow also recovered a gun used in a slaying in Kentucky and let the suspect go, COPA said. Had the officers searched his name in a law enforcement database, they would’ve discovered he had an active warrant for murder.
All four officers were interviewed by the FBI last year. COPA said Fair and Morrow admitted to “seizing firearms and completing false reports,” and Taylor conceded that he was aware of his colleagues submitting bogus paperwork. Collins, however, claimed he was unaware of officers covering up problematic gun seizures, COPA said.
Deals on the street for guns. Mis-inventorying items and stealing contraband. All so very familiar:
- 002 Tact; Broken Star in 015; PacMan in 015; Special Operations; crooked Housing sergeant; Milwaukee Avenue robberies; maybe a dozen more our readers will cite in the comments (Flagg in 007; Miedzianowski)
And they were doing this with active GPS in their cars! And activated Body Cameras! Seriously, could you get any stupider? We can't believe Crimesha and the feebs are declining prosecution in any of the cases cited.
There are only so many ways to inflate numbers. Few of them are legal, some are felonious in nature, they've all been tried before, and they've all ended with cops going to prison. IAD barely has to break a sweat and the feebs probably have a form-set invented for the entire crime.
You aren't re-inventing the wheel and you aren't going to outsmart the system. And with the lowered standards for hiring - and even lower standards for promotion - we see a few ugly years ahead for the Department.

When you lower standards to the level of democratic pandering, this is what you get. Expect more of this and levels of cowardice unseen ever. Off topic. Two of north side merits in the Lts class are very upset they will be sent to a west side district for a couple periods. One was in the hallway yesterday almost in tears. Poor babies. I’m sure some last minute shuffling will be done to accommodate

Except charges were never being brought for anyone with a FOID in their car. It was in a bag which means it was cased while in the vehicle…so not illegally carrying a gun. Take your Chicago engrained antigun bullshit elsewhere. I bet you used to take guns just because they weren’t registered…

The above mentioned officers attempted a traffic stop and all occupants fled and made good their ESCAPE.The FEDS were tracking the car because the occupants were wanted in a Homicide and low and behold the guns recovered didn't get inventoried until a later date at a different location. 005th tact not the best or brightest. My only question is does Rupert like Pina coladas and getting caught in the rain?

These teams are all about numbers. In other words, quotas (department will deny). There was a time when I actually cared to do “work,” but in this current climate, hell to the NO! Now, I simply show up, do the minimal, get paid, and go home to my family. Let the trash take itself out.

Back in the day some police commanders got hooked up with OC. Hanhardt comes to mind. And lets not forget former Austin commander Mark Thanasouras who did jail time for his shakedown scheme but latter received a dirt nap allegedly from OC. Case still not solved. I went thru the Greylord and Gambat scandals and knew many of the judges &lawyers that ended up going to federal prison. Swirled all around me and the unit I was I in yet not one officer in that unit took a fall. I visited a county judge who was a great guy, Marine in the WW2 and a good man but got caught up in the affair. At 26th and California I was in his chambers and he took me into the small bathroom in his office, turned on the water in the sink and whispered that he was in trouble. Two days later he was in the news walking into the federal building in handcuffs. Again, not one cop from the unit that was involved with many of those who were charged got jammed up. One attorney who took a fall told me that the first question the FBI asked him was could he give up dirty cops. He told them, the FBI, there were none and that the cops were just doing their jobs and were legit. Proud to say I was one of them. Temptations, many, but never went to the dark side, the same as all of my co-workers. Why do it? Didn’t make sense then and doesn’t make sense now.

people have commented at "lower hiring standards" being the problem. Nonsense! it is the fact that these kids don't know any better because the officers' training them are kids themselves! THEY (instructors) do not even know of the scandals from only 10-15 years ago themselves. They all think they can beat the system. I laugh at the fact that "instructors" with 6 or 7 years on (with 3 years as an instructor) can tell me about various topics. In the academy, I remember being told about various scandals that made us all look bad. my dad was also on the job, and he also told me stories. If they want to change this, then beat and tact coppers with a minimum of 20 years on should give some type of "ethics" class and talk about this shit. That includes coppers locked up for DUI, especially if it involved a crash and fatality (unfortunately, I could recall a few during my time).

- discrediting the reputation of the CPD.

- multiple lawsuits
- PPP fraud loans
- interfering with administrative investigations by changing IAD investigator’s findings to clear and fast track her cronies CR#’s, etc.
You’d think that the Supe and mayor would realize that she’s just the latest example of the real the
problem plaguing the CPD and clean house. Promoting undeserving and unqualified personnel into leadership has sunk this ship.

This certainly isn’t the first time this stuff has gone on. And it ain’t gonna be the last. Look at the garbage being hired now a days under the watchful eye of Yolanda Talley. She’s in charge of recruitment. She’s in charge of hiring. She’s in charge of skipping out on the bill after she done get her hairs did.
I don't know why Yolanda Talley hasn't been forced out like she had Eric Cato forced out. Next to COPA, Talley's IAD is the dirtiest, most corrupt, Chicago Police based investigative unit.
And if SCC is going to bring Yolanda Talley's corruption to light, then list each post with her dirty name so Talley and her political protectors , aka clout ( Waller, Preckwinkle, Jason and Melissa Ervin and the Law Dept) feel the heat as well. She has a boatload of complaints and lawsuits headed her way.

No way, St.Laurence H.S. produces the best City workers.
Brother Rice HS has produced the most Merit Promotions by far. A lot of the people who went here can’t make it on their own.
Everyone thinks they can build a better mouse trap.

As SCC stated, it’s all been tried before, but big brother wasn’t as big.

There is a reason why she has been psyched and most recently was in callback for getting into a fight with a female Sgt in her previous district. She will not only micromanage you but she is the most knowledgeable person in this department (in her mind).

I’m not sure why Snelling brought Yolanda Talley back. He wasn’t her first choice for Supe. Ernest Cato was. Yolanda Talley is still upset because she isn’t the 1st Deputy. She and Cato (who is Lori Lightfoot’s neighbor) were being groomed to be the next superintendent and 1st Deputy if Lori Lightfoot would’ve won again. I live a few blocks away from LL. Fortunately Cato retired after YT’s vehicle incident. Now, she’s currently sabotaging this administration, so she can leave the Supe holding the bag. Waller on the other hand is working quietly in the background promoting everyone he and Ex-Supe Eddie Johnson didn’t get the chance to promote. The Supe will be holding Waller’s bag as well. Snelling will be the fall guy in the end while he’s playing hear no evil, see no evil.
This should be the front cover of the suntimes. Commander Glenn white knew about those coppers. The day that lady came into 005 in regards to her purple gun they were dumped from tact. They were put on midnights to be hidden. How they made it back to tact yet alone not being stripped is beyond disbelief. The department knew these coppers were dirty and did not a damn thing about it.

No prosecution from the feds ... Yet. They've got all the time in the world.
Everyone bitches about Larritorious. Those are mostly disgruntled fans and clout buddies of the ex chief of patrol who was promoted three times by David Brown, for no damn reason whatsoever. This is the same chief of patrol that canceled our RDOs and extended our tours for bullshit details and events.
Granted, Snelling has not been all that great, but not all that bad either. We could have been stuck with that former IPRA asshole police chief from Madison PD Shon Barnes, or even worse, Tina Skahill or ex COPA head Sharon Fairley Rogers. Count your blessings and ride it out.
