Christmas Eve 2021 has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for gun
possession after a jury found him not guilty of trying to kill the cops. With good behavior, 32-year-old Nokomis Jefferson will serve only
seven years and should be home in time to celebrate Christmas 2028.
Chicago police officers monitoring a CPD surveillance camera saw Jefferson pull out a gun and hold it in his hand as vehicles drove past him in the 1300 block of West Hastings late on December 24, 2021. The cops and other officers went to the area and moved in on Jefferson.
COPA, the agency that investigates police-involved shootings, determined that the officers “announced their presence, saying, ‘police,'” as they moved in on Jefferson.
Jefferson, his lawyer argued, opened fire in self-defense because he did not know the people who were closing in on him with guns were cops. A shootout ensued. Jefferson received gunshot wounds to his head and shoulder, COPA reported. No officers were injured.
Seen on camera with a gun. The approach must have been tactically sound because no officers were injured during the shootout that wounded the offender. He's a felon, so charges were extensive - two counts of attempted murder, two more of aggravated discharge at police.
He beat all those charges, getting tagged only for being a felon in possession of a firearm, which was the slam-dunk charge since he was lying next to the gun he had just fired.
Judge Ursula Walowski wasn't amused and sentenced him to the max allowable for the single charge - fourteen years, but with time already served and day-for-day credit, he's out in 2028.
This is another one of those "out on bail, but he'll behave himself" a$$holes that the chief judge tells us never happens - the SIXTY-SECOND since 2021 according to CWB.
And just in case you were planning on sending COPA a Christmas card, they reprimanded all of the officers involved for stating, "Shots fired!" instead of "Shots fired by the police!" during what is well known as the most stressful seconds in any Officer's career.

Not that we need another reason pointing out how stupid COPA is,, but a reprimand for not saying "shots fired by the police" is dumb. This is their definition of progressive punishment.
This has to stop. Everyone needs to vote the politicians that are soft on crime. This time it sounds like the judge did the best he could.

Suggestion: When I first came on the job, I would practice in front of a mirror (and mimick pulling a gun) and yelling “freeze” till I found the command voice I wanted and it worked. Practice yelling “shots fired by everyone” to cover your butt. Might save you a reprimand and have your butt covered from the freakin keesing bandit.

COPA is a joke. A reprimand for not saying shots fired by the police in an incredibly high stress situation and COPA is not zinging coppers punitively?
Ursula was a great states attorney and even a better judge.
That will really teach this guy a lesson. I am sure he will turn his life around and become a model citizen after reflecting on his ill begotten ways. Only a few more months with this POS Foxx. Then will it get better or worse?

It makes perfect sense to me to make that kind of announcement. In the future police will announce “man stabbed not by police” or “woman beaten not by police”.
I agree poor sentencing. But I would like to know who names a kid Nokomis ? Did they spend time in Florida and conceive the lowlife ?

Remember that this violent sociopath was out on Christmas Eve armed illegally in a place he didn't live looking for someone to shoot. The only reason this wild shootout ended was that this psycho was grazed in the head by return fire from the officers and then decided to flee before more officers arrived. It was a miracle the two 12th District Tac officers weren't hit and killed and were able to return home safely to their families. Two officers by the way who did not nothing but attempt to enforce the gun laws that Democrats are so quick to impose. Show this incident to anyone who keeps promoting "common sense gun laws". {snicker}
Time to bring back the old west style of justice. Some people just need killing.

This 'chaos' you babble about is the result of the corruption of the impeding political elements restricting law enforcement officers' actions relevant to those causing said 'chaos', whilst they insist that said officers enforce laws against any civilian properly, as in whatever works, to nullify this 'chaos'.
This 'chaos' is addressed not by police, as police are not allowed to do so, rather by civilians, were they not heavily restricted in doing so by the very enforcements you say to desist in.
Why not let the gangbangers shoot each other through?
