Back to the Usual Treatment
So the convention ended without too many issues (we'll cover those in a separate post), and the Department reverted to form, showing zero regard for Officers who had just laid it all on the line for six and seven days straight.
Not only didn't they announce the reverting back to the regular work schedule until well after everyone had gone home and hit the hay for a few hours sleep, they had told everyone the night before to leave their equipment in the transport vehicles overnight. Guess what happened next?
- the Department sent the vans, loaded with helmets, turtle gear, backpacks (with department and personal gear still inside), to Malcolm X college and had the recruits unload it all into piles. Some of the recruits, realizing that this was a clusterfuck of untold proportions, attempted to sort and label the piles by vehicle number, to facilitate Officers finding their gear, but others just dumped the equipment into piles. The "plan" was to have the recruits inventory everything that wasn't claimed at some point. No word on how much stuff will end up stolen/broken/lost and how the Department is going to replace said items.
We're going to bet that someone saw an opportunity to return the rental vans a day early and save some money, not realizing that the rental van company was owned by an aldercreature's niece and she contributes heavily to the Ward Offices of assorted politicians.

Officers are grateful that Friday didn't get cancelled. Stop whining ssc; if it was the other way around, I bet you would complain that Friday got cancelled for no reason. Please, be positive for once.
Before I start, I just sat down to relax, turned on a Fox News show, the host, Cyrus started he extolled the wonderful job the CPD did all week.
He said they protected the right to protest, and arrested those who broke the law.

Everyone is posting “CPD looked awesome”, “kudos to the command staff”! “We earned respect”. I’ll give credit to the officers on the front line who worked their asses off but don’t for a second think this department is all legit now. We’re riding a high of a successful DNC because of lower protest turnout and feds probably telling the department that we are to actually control this as there is a lot riding on it for the democrats. Give it a week or two and we will be right back to terrible treatment and mismanagement. The command staff got what they wanted which was a successful DNC so they could give two shits about us now.
Well the Democrats put on quite the show at the United Center. You have to give them credit for all the polished phoniness, blatant lies and empty platitudes they spewed out for four days. What a barf fest! Their audience was composed of the most gullible people on earth. They cheered & screamed after every speaker’s five to ten words like trained seals. Everybody had a bag of signs to hold up when prompted to do so.
The first night they had old Joe give his forced swan song to get rid of him. After that Coconut Kamala and Tampon Tim expounded on how they would get things done even though the Coconut Queen spent the last 3 & 1/2 years doing nothing. All of the politicians that put on this freak show are charlatans to say the least. I got to thinking that these Democrats are using the templates of the old TV preachers/evangelists for their control of the audience and voters. Check out one of the best, Rev Ike Eikerenkoetter, on a youtube video. People will believe politicians that have that persuasive charisma even thought they are poor problem solvers.
I don’t remember any of the speakers/politicians giving any credit to all the law enforcement officers that enabled them to get into the convention safely without bodily injury. The least they could all do would be to thank you. And maybe a nice party for all of you! They certainly have the money! Stay safe.
What a shitty move on the Department's part. What about the people who made arrangements to work 12 hours on Friday? Fuck the headquarters and this department. We DO NOT matter and the bullshit "Thank you" emails are phony and disingenuous.
Talk about a shit show… you go to sleep at 10 PM to make sure you’re ready to go for your 9 AM to 9 PM shift that this department put you on ,for the DNC . Only to learn from a text message from a co-worker the morning you’re expecting to work on your RDO that you’re back to regular duty hours and schedule . This fucking clown show puts out an Admin message at 0001 hours that says everyone is back to their regular schedules while most people are sleeping that were anticipating going to work . This is reason 6,045,830 why you do the bare minimum and you make this job works for you. The department gives zero fucks about you and your family. DO NOT extend yourself for this job.

I thought CPD look good out there on the streets during the DNC and I'm sure the gold braids are slapping each other on the backs with success stories. Everyone will get another ribbon for their dress blues. Being a pessimist though, these were some of the most pussified protestors I've ever seen. Nothing like the violent destructive crews that hit other cities. I think, in truth, we dodged a bullet.

Not everyone was home when the announcement was given. We were still on a CTA bus in front Rush hospital waiting for the go ahead to leave. Although some p.o.’s were getting calls from friends wondering why they weren’t at the local watering hole yet. So some were given the okay to leave before others

To the members of this department that pin a gold star on your chest. Now that the DNC is over, you should be asking yourself the following questions ( known as a hot wash); what did I do to make an already stressful situation better for my employees. Did I lead from the front? Did I support my employees? Did they know that I cared about their wellbeing? Did I make sure my employees had all the information they needed to do their job in a timely manner? Did I check that my employees were fed or had food available, had something to drink or had that readily available, had a break, whether it was for the washroom or just to decompress. If you answered yes to almost all of these, you are more than just a boss, you are a true leader- you are what we need more of on this department.
If you didn’t do any of the above things and created an already stressful situation making it even worse by bombarding your employees with emails that were cut and pasted from the AMC’s about being in uniform, crown cap, clean shaven, no 5.11 pants and have a yellow vest or you knit picked over paying them overtime by shortchanging them by a 1/2 because of the unpaid lunch only paying them 11.5 hours of overtime instead of 12 hours, or not admitting that you or your front office made a mistake with your assignment or start time. Constantly worrying about your employees getting you in trouble by micromanaging and unnecessarily lashing out at your employees; YOU are the furthest thing from a leader!!!! You are a dictator and is not what this department needs. I highly advise you read a few books on leadership, do a google search on the best ones. You can start with “Extreme Ownership” by retired Navy Seals Jocko Willink and Leif Babin.
As far as the superintendent, he showed some great leadership by being on the front lines , the only fault I would give is the mission plan was late being filtered down to the troops, but this could very well be his commanders fault.
If I was Snelling, I would find out what gold stars created chaos and more stress for their employees, I would demote them immediately! People like this would not have any place like that in my command!

I can see it happening… I was the 3 pm roll call at Sox. We knew back to normal operations when we came in for check off. While at check off the recruits were moving vehicles. I would assume it was the 10:00 am roll calls. When they checked off, they assumed they were coming back Friday..so they may have left their equipment in their vehicles. Hope everything works out….. I must admit, we all did a great job this week…

Correct, everyone was talking about “there’s 50,000 protesters in town”. We saw like 5,000 at best. This could have been bad but we lucked out.
It was at Comiskey/Guaranteed Field Park all week feeding the troops.
Go pick up the gear on your own time. Call the station, notify them you were told where to go pick up your missing equipment and take a leisurely ride down. Do an inventory of your property on the scene and go to the nearest station and file a police report for anything that is missing. At the end of all that, log in and drop your slip for 4 hours; you'll get 6 to help make up for the surprise cancellation. Just make sure you use the DNC event number so the right pot of money gets billed.
I always carry my equipment learned from the cubs World Series not to leave equipment on any bus or van for overnight. I wouldn’t be surprised if all receive a SPAR from Hein for not securing your equipment.. oh & Thxs for DNC.

Nobody cares about your babysitter drama, entire world literally have kids and various schedules. If you don't like what you signed up for, you can always pull a plug and try private sector.... you know, plate where you have to be on time and actually work. 😉
Big thank you to all the officers that did not hit the medical. I saw so many people that I have not seen in a long time. The camaraderie with your squad was great. We joked all week and protected each other. Only thing that would have been better was to work on friday. We would have had an opportunity to go grab a meal as a team. Take a platoon photo, and would have had an opportunity to take our gear home. I was disappointed learning that we were going back to normal after getting home late thursday night. I came back the next day and grabbed my gear. I was tired and it sucked driving back to Malcom X. But my gear was still there. Overall the DNC went well. I am sure people will learn from this mistake. Stay safe everyone, and thank your loved ones for stepping up and taking care of the household while we were working the DNC.

When will some of the slow members of the rank and file understand nothing changes. The Dept is mismanaged by incompetent fools, hacks and merit slugs. You remain the punching bag. You are the bitch, and they are in charge and do what you're told. The DNC is over and now back to being the bitch. Now move along.
