$225K Lottery Ticket?
For waving a gun around and threatening people with it:
Chicago taxpayers should pay $225,000 to the family of an Indianapolis man shot and killed by two off-duty Chicago Police officers in 2016 after he pointed a gun at them during a brawl that exacerbated racial tension in Mount Greenwood, city lawyers recommended.
The agency tasked with investigating misconduct by Chicago police officers ruled the officers were justified in shooting Joshua Beal.
The proposed $225,000 settlement is set to be considered Monday by the City Council’s Finance Committee. A final vote of the City Council could come on Oct. 30.
At the time, we pointed out that there were photographs of Beal waving the gun around (click for larger image):
Not only that, but we also posted info that this wasn't the first time the dead asshole was waving a gun around (click for larger image):
But the city lawyers and the City Council are going to reward this type of bad behavior with taxpayer dollars for what turned out to be a completely legal, lawful and well deserved shooting.

As a side note, in the event an officer has a physical arrest situation and an officer is injured it’s always a good idea to explore the possibility of suing the person who resisted or injured an officer. It doesn’t matter if they are unemployed, broke, destitute etc because if you sue and win, the scumbag probably won’t show up in court, you have all pertinent information and file a lien against future income of that person which would include “ghetto lottery” payouts. They win a lawsuit and you get the money. It’s worth exploring.

Tax money out of your pocketbook productive law abiding citizens encourage more violent criminal activity cause your criminal can get paid for disrespecting the laws of the land. Add in the collusion making those attorneys rich keeps the civil side of the criminal industry for lawyers lucrative providing sustenance.
The family should not be compensated for failing to teach their offspring right from wrong and not correcting him when he caught a court case playing with guns in that documented unjustified use of force pointing incident. Along with toilet training he should have been taught anger management and de-escalation techniques when he was a shorty by those cry and silly drama on display family members who came out of the woodwork when a payout was learned.

I know it's cheaper to settle some cases, but somewhere you have to draw a line and act on principle.
I continue to be amazed at the mentality this particular demographic has regarding personal responsibility. Chicago is following NY's lead here - that city is being sued for $500K by the grandmother of a child whose mama starved her to death because "social services should have done something." Paying these clowns only entrenches the mentality.

When these cases go to trial in front of a jury of cook county residents that either have an agenda or just weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty crazy stiff happens. Bad guys family will end up getting about 150k after the lawyers take their 33.3 percent of the settlement. That will be gone in 6 months if not more.
