This dept is so dam dumb.. they have a brand new academy with a huge parking lot that's more then half empty yet they have promotional classes for 3 different ranks, including ETs and new recruits being heald at the old academy which has a small parking lot that is more then half full just from staff personnel

The new academy has no rooms to have classes in. If you think about it - it's a huge waste of space. Majority of the second floor is a humongous "lunchroom" nobody uses. "In service" training takes most of the available rooms so there isn't much to spare. Whoever designed it is a moron. Whoever signed off on it is even a bigger moron. This whole thing cost more than double it was quoted for ($180M I believe) and is a complete piece of shit. If you know anything about construction you can clearly see it was half-assed, using the cheapest materials and the unskilled labor. They didn't even paint the rooms in the so called "realistic looking" training village. It's all white primer and looks like a mental ward. It also houses more chiefs than Indians because you really need 5 POs to run a class consisting of power points. What a fucking joke!

I have 16 years on, 8 as a detective. We all know this job is unrecognizable now. The d-unit is not exempt from this. I asked someone promoted this last round of detectives who was shadowing me to run someone on data warehouse. This kid looks at me and says “what do you mean, like instagram?” Good luck detectives. Keep a sharp eye on these 4 year wonders who never did any kind of real police work. Guys used to say they’d never leave the d-unit. The new idea is guys desperately finding a spot away from these DEI “police officers”.
Spot on about the tac secretary pick. She was useless, scared of the street, and accomplished nothing in her time in the district.
Jannes on the other hand is an excellent officer and an amazing human being in general. In her short time, she has earned multiple awards including problem solving awards, DCs, Special Commendation, Life Saving, Arnold Mireles, T Stop of the month, and she was just awarded the Officer of the Month Award. All this while being a single mom. Jannes was an excellent pick and she definitely earned it.
OT OT for SCC or one of the fantastic human beings at CWB. Ca somebody compile the records on which judges routinely deny pretrial detention petitions or even which ones have let criminals loose in outrageous circumstances? It would be good to know who are the good ones who jail people when appropriate. CWB has a story right now about one judge but it would be nice to have more inform when voting on judicial retention ballot.
I was going to follow a previous commentator’s suggestion to vote no on all, but I know, and can’t remember and find, that some do the right thing. Recommendations from somebody who’s kept track of this would be greatly appreciated.
How are you going to get a screenshot or snippet anonymously out of a work computer or network genius? Not an LEO but I’m guessing you can only see that info on official CPD computers which should have ports and drives locked down. Even if they didn’t there would be operating system logs of any transfers to external devices, which if CPD doesn’t prevent they’re seriously fucked. And I hope nobody would be stupid enough to take a screen shot and email it to themselves using their CPD computer or email address,

Nice try marina. I been in 014 and still am so I know what I’m talking about. I’ve seen her through out the years. She was on the robbery team and did nothing. That was when they still did rotating shifts for the robbery team. Their then Sgt made LT (Jason) started to cry to the tact LT so they made the robbery team a straight day team. She did nothing but rode on her now retired partners coattails who got lucky every once in awhile. Single mom? And what? Everyone here mostly has loved ones they got to take care of? Again how does that justify her making merit detective ? Again I known her for a few years now. There are way more deserving from collazo when she was still in 014. I shouldn’t be surprised she did pick her neighbor for merit sgt. Then picked her neighbor’s brother for her second merit pick for sgt. They both made it if you’re wondering. He was a lazy do nothing on caps too. I can count at least 3 or 4 FTO’s who deserved it more like Reyes or Calderon etc. Again idk why I expect so much from collazo. She did bring her useless daughter in law with her when she came to 014. She still in the office doing nothing all day. Go figure . I guess it’s really who you blow I mean who you know. I got receipts. Just ask. I hope I never have to have any of these merit hacks come to try to solve anything involving my loved ones.
Yes a very young list of detectives if all of you haters would have thought your way through the test maybe you would be on the list. Sgt test results will be similar sorry to say
New Detectives come to the D-Unit with no idea of how to run a name, vehicle or criminal history. Most scored well because they were apart of the anointed study group or they were sitting behind a desk in HQ studying while others were busting their butts in patrol.
I understand the spirit of your comment as data warehouse =\ instagram but social media sites like insta/ FB / snapchat etc are virtual treasure troves of evidence and are regular, and even vital, channels of obtaining information on suspects for many working detectives via somex/search warrants/subpoenas/preservations requests etc. Your anecdote is not truly a “get your face out of the phone” teaching moment.

Merit detective is worse than merit sergeant. At least they can hide a sergeant. You’re a victim and you get a merit detective good luck ever finding justice.
With this past sergeant exam being so subjective, they don’t need merit to get the people they want. That’s what is taking so long, making sure the right “percentage” of people score high.

Several detectives told me now that they are paying them more most of the new detectives lack the desire for OT because of their recent jump in pay. Sad.
The fact that it was a “multiple choice” test for a job that is supposed to rely on a person’s strength in seeing patterns, making deductions from information given, having the ability to search for further evidence etc tells you everything you need to know about who the department is catering to see promoted.
I would rather have a new detective who doesn’t know shit but willing to learn than some know it all. Be patient and work with people. You don’t have to be a grumpy asshat to everyone. You have 16 years on and you are in a great spot. Take a few minutes and show someone how to do something. Unless you knew everything when you got to the area.
there also was a time when you had to hand carry a form with dickheads IR# on it down to 11th & State submit it and wait about 2 days for the mugshots

Detective test was first part of sergeant test. Second part of sergeant test was a scan and everyone who took it knows it. If they promoted off the first part of the sergeant test alone then id agree with you.

Lonegran is solid, respected, sympathetic to disabled people, but also recognizes scammers. He's liked by people and composes sentences without being argumentative. He also votes contrary to JCAT many times especially on highly political issues.
He definitely is not JCAT's puppet but is trusted by JCAT to be a responsible person following pension code.

There is no shortage of overtime addicts. Some live wisely and invest/save the extra dough. Some need it for child support/medical bills/school tuition to make ends meet. Some need it to maintain life beyond their means 700k houses/70k cars/other status symbols and would drown without OT. Some do overtime just to avoid their home life at all costs. Believe it or not there are also cops that avoid overtime because they live within their means, love their home life and would rather stay home to raise their kids, coach sports, volunteer at church, exercise, and spend time with the family and friends that make life worth living!
