Guilty Finding
A small measure of justice for an off duty cop killed in a case of mistaken identity:
A Cook County jury on Tuesday found a man guilty of murder in the shooting death of an off-duty Chicago police officer in River North in 2019, according to court records.
Menelik Jackson, 29, was convicted of murder and aggravated battery in the fatal shooting of Officer John Rivera, 23, which also injured another man, following a jury trial that began last week.
Rivera was sitting in a parked car in the the 700 block of North Clark Street with at least one other off-duty officer when assailants walked up and fired into the vehicle, killing Rivera and wounding another occupant of the car, police said.
There was a previous conviction on a second offender and a third pled guilty, all because some low IQ assholes with zero impulse control couldn't remember who they were arguing with and just blasted away at a parked car with some people inside.

Department policy scares young officers to not carry their guns while they’re out. At one time police were required to carry guns at all times.
May the officer rest in peace and I hope the conviction brings a little piece to his family.
If you're counting on impulse control to solve the problem of gun violence, you're going to be very disappointed.

Sounds like the off-duty officer was at fault. Got to stay out of the city once you leave work.
Why do we always blame the police when they are the victim ? Or when they make an arrest which goes south? Whatever happened to that thin blue line.
Police were never required to carry weapons off duty. Mostly because they tend to shoot up bars when they get liquored up. The department has the new PO'S afraid to defend themselves with all of the watchers waiting to fuck them over. Look for police jobs elsewhere. Other departments will snap you up with the training you have. Take your family to a safe state where they respect the rule of law. You won't make the same salary but you won't need to spend one third of your income on private schooling your kids. God bless that murdered PO. and his family. And God bless all of you still out there. You need all the help you can get.
When someone's mother gives him the first name "Menelik", chances are she wasn't too bright to begin with. But, she might have more brains than the people in City Hall.

Kudos to Ozzie getting the jail call and Area 1 Somex for the soundex that got the plate, and Mike C for telling people to give him the keyboard while he found where the car was parked. This was a missed opportunity with that white pickup w the budgie cord... The department lost out letting him bail to the tech companies. I was there... about 130am if I remember correctly.
