What part of this:

...isn't being understood?

  • About 2 a.m., members of a Chicago police robbery team were on patrol when they saw two people believed to be armed get into a black 2007 Lexus ES in the 5500 block of South Pulaski Road, police said.

Officers began pursuing the sedan, which fled at a “high rate of speed” for about 4 miles before running a red light, smashing into Smith’s 2024 Kia Soul and hitting a building in the 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

A male passenger of the Lexus was ejected and landed on the sidewalk among the rubble of the partially collapsed building, according to a police report.

"high rate of speed"?

Four miles?

Suspect launched from crashed vehicle and died?

Lawsuit incoming. In a just world, no one would give a shit that a criminal died in the commission of a crime, but this isn't a just world, and we've been sounding these warnings for years now.

That whole Chase scenario and others need to be challenged on the courts by honest judges not the political hacks in Cook County. Unless the police vehicle is a striking vehicle or actually involved in the crash how can the city and or the police be responsible for the actions of another they are driving the vehicle and can stop anytime they want the police have no control the other driver does and should be solely responsible.

Nice job guys, hope you enjoyed your employment with the city while it lasted.
Please, by all means- keep disregarding policy and doing whatever you want.
You know better.
Hope that “robbery team” was with it.

It was much nicer in the 90’s when a crash happened it was the responsibility of the driver, passenger hurt by driver action, no issue.sorry, so sad, Now if your taking a shit in your apartment and if he siren scared you the city will settle for $15k.

From 55th and Pulaski to 35th and Ashland sheesh. These guys are fucked. These carjacking teams/robbery teams think the car chase policy doesn’t apply to them and just applies to dogass patrol. Anyways I’ll buy a ticket to the benefit and have a beer at the lodge while everyone soon forgets you after you’re buried at callback and eventually fired

55th and Pulaski to 35th and Ashland may only be 4 miles on google maps, but that is a long way to pursue in a city. I bet there were 30 stop lights, 20 stop signs, and, even though it’s 2am, hundreds of citizens in cars they passed while chasing. None of it’s worth it. None of it.

When are coppers going to OBEY the Constitution of our country and our general orders? Yeah, that's right, I said obey.

According to the article, the officers believed that two people were armed and they got inside a vehicle. Hence they pursued them. That alone is not reasonable articulable suspicion or the threshold for probable cause.

Cops like this should be fired. Cops like this endanger all of our lives, freedom and job security. You reap what you sow.

As some one who reviews these reports…..I can tell you this incident reads like a justifiable chase in regards to doing old fashion police work!

That being said, the person operating the original CPD vehicle will have plenty of explaining to do? And when they compare it to the rest of the written, verbal and photographic evidence……there will have be someone’s A$$ in the hurt locker for this?

The lawyers have already started FOIA requests on the OEMC radio traffic? The victims lawyers which also include the offenders lawyers are out documenting where cameras are located at the incident sites?
And the best parts of these searches for evidence include the CPD GPS location system regarding the chasing vehicle along with any and all supervisors in the immediate area of pursuit?

Even major accident section reports are conflicting with the involved members reported speeds compared to the offenders vehicles computer which records the vehicle speed, application of brakes and impact forces when it struck the victims Jeep?

In other words, there is going to be a bus rolling over someone!
Get ready for the stripping of police powers, reassignment to call back. And Service of Discovery motions pending the formal Law suit against the City, CPD and the Officer operating the CPD vehicle? And possibly the supervisors on air in the area of the incident?
So why would any police officer in Illinois chase any offender?

Until that it’s challenged in court, you are held accountable for whatever dude does behind the wheel.
Might not like it, might not be fair, but that’s the way it is.
And idiot coppers STILL chase, then cry when they get spanked.

Sorry, not buying a benefit ticket.

No way they allowed a chase to go on that long without a supervisor monitoring the zone. I may work on the north side but this shit seems off to me.

10/02/2024 07:41:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yep, I don’t think coppers realize how detailed all of that data is.
And when looked at under a microscope in court- the pursuing officer never looks good.
It’s always hard to call a pursuit “justified” when an innocent car gets t-boned and someone dies. Even though it’s using 20/20 hindsight, the optics really allow a justification when you’re in direct conflict with CPD orders.

Let me make this a little more clear...When the city puts out an order effectively banning chases, and you violate that order, "You" become the responsible party for acting in violation of said order. Regardless of state law. You can't explain your way out of violating department policies and regulations. Get it? Got it? Good....Now report to the callback unit immediately...CPD has some paperwork that they want to serve you with.

Not saying I agree with it, but chasing in the city is stupid. Whether the police are at fault or not is up courts and policy, at the end of the day criminals will run and put civilians walking to work, home, the store you name at risk to catch these people. Shithead robs someone and flees, cops chase and shithead t bones a family heading home, who really wins here? 1 robbery victim just turned into 4,5,6 victims or dead people. Open county roads and interstate is a different thing.

It’s funny how so many of our “brothers” are throwing the officers under the bus and taking the side of the criminals. Criminals who had a car with stolen plates on it, wearing masks and surgical gloves and armed with two stolen firearms. I live in 016. We are getting a lot more robbery crews coming up here. So it 008 and 022 where many cops live. When a robbery crew hits, cops are the first ones yelling and crying to catch the offenders. If the police get in a chase and a sgt terminates then they bash the sgt as being soft for a robbery that happened in 016. Now they throw cops u see the bus for doing what you want… ahhh, I get it, it’s not your neighborhood and you’re a dog and don’t like police work.. but it’s ok for OTHER PEOPLE to do police work when it’s in YOUR neighborhood. Can’t habit it both ways. These criminals played the robbery Bonnie and Clyde game and they lost. One less crew to come to 016,022, 008 or anywhere else police officers live. The potential future would be victims of this crew thank you also. In my eyes??? Job well done. Anyone jumping on the police is either a dog mutt who doesn’t do anything, a 376 prisoner or someone who left the job or the city.

Do share the part of the story where it makes this sound like a good chase. You can spin this whatever way you want but the officers were chasing this car. Just because you don't put it out over the air as such doesn't mean it didn't happen. These guys went over both zone 6 and 13 and put it out as "information only". The only way to know the offending vehicles location is by following/chasing it which they did. And if the birds were flying at a high rate of speed, then you were too. I'm not saying be fetal. I'm saying be smart. Protect yourself and your partner(s) physically and financially

That’s terrible advice. You aren’t supposed to, nor do u have to wait until a supervisor gives the order to terminate. Waiting until given or not given that order will not absolve you of the wrath coming your way if the chase goes south. Take it from someone that’s dealt with a few of these.

Your stupid impunity and mistreatment of people, it has a reckoning and it’s here. You’re the reason we are over scrutinized. You killed too many people on dumb car chases for nothing. You beat people and they got millions from justified lawsuits. You think we don’t know? You still brag about the old days at roll call you stupid fool. Now we have to pay the price for you and you’ll be retired in a few years. Fuck you. Don’t chase anyone.
