non-cpd : are canceled days off determined by seniority or is the entire shift forced to work that day?

Expect more days off cancelled in the future.
The city of Chicago is on a hiring freeze. The CPD is exempt but they won't be hiring as much. At the same time though we can't even find enough recruits.
So a combination of cancelled days off leads to more frustration and even more officers quitting or retiring early. On top of that we will not get new recruits.
I wanted to stay for the full 29 years + one day. I am leaving once I hit 55 years old and have 23 years on the job.

Expect more people hitting the medical. I will never work a RDO cancelled, in fact I haven't worked one since 2020. The department has had plenty of time to hire yet they want to cancel RDO and try and fill the sheets off of the backs of the current staff. Sorry not going to happen.
When the police department cancels days off the entire shift has to work that day. If I was scheduled to be off on Tuesday and Wednesday then I have to work one day or if CPD cancels both of my days off then I have to work both of my days.
It's still confusing. If you're already retired with this reduced benefits will you be grandfathered in?

You will have the hard chargers saying what are you new? Not new and back in the days they would ask for volunteers that wanted to make money in the district. Now you have all hands on deck, get your Day off cancelled but allow someone to take Comp Time. Your family doesn’t matter, your mental health even farther from the Department main concern. For the working police your faith is under commanders on who writes the best story and show plane tickets, and itinerary’s. You could have 2 years on and Trump a 29 year old veteran.

My thoughts exactly, while working on my RDO last year. Most people are spending it indoors with family.
Get off this fucking job. Move, sell you house and have a life. Fuck everything here. People are very happy in other places. Don’t stay because of family or some other misguided reason. The suburbs are not the answer.

OT a bit. I had jobs about 10 years before (during) and after Cpd where I paid into SS.Due to a cola increase I’m going to get just over $800 a month. Certainly not enough to live on. I don’t understand some of the posters saying they get $5 a month unless they never had a job other than Cpd

If someone is shot before midnight, but expires in the new year, or isn't found until after midnight because there was no Shot Spotter alert, how is that counted? Asking for a friend.
My guess would be that thee “act” ie shooting stabbing actually occurred on or after midnight. That’s how I’d run my pool . Some slob shot in June and they pull the plug at midnight…nah
or first RD pulled for 0110, easy enough to pull up i would think- good luck
