The Illinois reparations politician scumbags are stealing money from honest working people to pay for the hood's gas supply and delivery. This new charge is state law, essentially forced reparations and People Gas cannot remove this charge.
We don't feel like adjusting our thermostat down any further in these trying times, and globsal "warming" isn't arriving fast enough. We were thinking of shorting our bill the "discount" amount, but then they'd come to shut off OUR gas for non-payment....ironic in the extreme.
So now we're looking into claiming a "low income" family as a dependent on our tax forms to recoup the theft of funds.

Laws have to be constitutional. Someone will challenge this BS in court.
They define low income as 150% of the federal poverty line currently aprox. 23 grand for one person.
Figure another 5 grand or so per family member.
I am hoping your pension is more than that.
If you have 15 grandkids living in your house you might qualify.

Wait till you retire. Both spouses retired from CPD. Both Medicare & BCBS. Both prescribed meds from different physicians for different maladies. Both meds cost around $900.00 to $1100.00 a month. The insurance won’t cover the cost because you make over a certain threshold. According to BCBS if you are a low income person you could get the meds for a few dollars a month or even for free. So you pay into SS for years to get Medicare and you don’t get the full benefits thanks to Congressman Rostenkowski. Then you pay for monthly health insurance and are not covered by the meds you need so then the physician has to write for a less effective med. So you work your whole life but then get taxed for the low income people who get the meds at a very low rate or free. This is also redistribution of the wealth in this country.
This crap just makes me want out of Illinois.
Oh and check out cones. If you live in a low income zip code, no paperwork to get your theft money(late bill payment deposit) returned.
They also charge more per wattage per zip code. They actually told me that once. Then, have denied it. Yet we’re paying all the legal fees for their madigan involved execs as they all stand trial.
The utilities hate us and think we’re cash cow patsies. We’re a trapped audience.

Sue the shit out of People's Gas because you don't agree with the discount for "low income" people. Frame it as a First Amendment Free Speech issue in that by forcing you to pay the "discount" that they are essentially compelling speech from you.
And since the Government mandated the fee, it's subject to strict scrutiny because it's compelled by the government...

A little off topic, but, as of January 1, attorneys filing civil lawsuits can bypass the Sheriff's largely inept civil process unit and place summonses directly with private process servers. Electronic monitoring of criminal defendants on pre-trial release is being transferred to the clerk of the circuit court. Warrants for failure to appear and civil body attachments have not been served for years. They just sit out there in the system, on the chance that the defendant gets caught for something else. The jail population has been significantly reduced, thanks to catch and release policies. So, where does all that budget surplus go?
Peoples Gas is a scam and I had them shut off my service years ago.
The only thing I was using has for was for cooking. Then one month they sent me a bill for $1800! How does one use $1800 a month to run a gas range? Anyways they insistwd that is what I owed so I cancelled the service. Bought an electric over air frier and a hot plate alreadt had the microwave and tje increase costs if my electric bill was lower than all the service tax and delivery fees for the has servive. So I am saving money. The Peoples gas service fees and taxes cost more than the actual gas I was using. Its crazy but true.

Retired . A few years back i was doing rhe rideshare and food delivery crap to supplement my income however thats when you could make alittle money off of it. Today it doesn't make sense trying to give back to the community from an economic standpoint. Better off signing up for SSI and foodstamps

I know a guy who knows a guy who has a warehouse on the west side and bypassed the gas meter with an old meter and pressure regulator. He keeps his warehouse at 80 all winter long at no cost . It’s common practice on the west side !
