When thieves made off with Darcie Bell’s rented U-Haul truck, the San Francisco woman put out a call for help on X: “If you see a 26 foot uhaul truck with the Arizona plate AL50003- would you let me know because it had like everything I own on it.”
The post went viral, but not for the reason she hoped for. Bell spent years posting left-wing “Defund the police” views — and users across the site blasted and mocked the activist.
“Anti Police activist begs the police to help,” jeered the X account Bay State of Mind, which comments on San Francisco Bay Area politics.
And when the harassment got to be too much, she doubled down:
“I haven’t found my s—! The cops didn’t do s—! U-Haul made me file a f—ing police report!” she told The Post.
“There’s cameras all over this city. They haven’t done s—! … I just want my stuff back!”
If it isn't reported stolen, it isn't stolen as far as the cops are concerned.
If the report isn't filed, insurance won't pay anything.
But hey, defund defund defund.

As for insurance not paying w/o a report - it's gonna depend. I had a car go nuts years ago, engine suddenly raced, pegged the thing into a pole in a parking garage to get it to stop.
Copper first responding wouldn't take a report since it was in a private garage, said to "call it in for insurance". Next 4 police/security agencies wouldn't take a report either - including the squad that drove through the garage ("well, if the [first guy] wouldn't, we don't need to either...").
Come into the station to talk to a desk sgt and see if they'll do it. "Yeah, fuck that time wasting bullshit"
Tried calling the Sheriff - nope.
State Police? Nope - gotta go through the local agency.
Local agency where I had it towed? Nope - didn't happen here...

Do want the police to take a report when you get a flat tire? You are misinformed. The insurance company doesn’t require a report. I’m going to save you some more heartache. The police in most jurisdictions don’t take a report for non-injury accidents.

Based on that, it would actually be several hundred bucks cheaper to fly from CA to OK, rent the truck on a 'local' rate, drive 1345 miles to CA, load up, drive 1345 miles back to OK, unload and return the truck.

The story is funny, but I would love to know her thought process when she first posted on X. Did she imagine some ordinary citizen would capture the crooks? Or follow them and report on where they stopped so that SHE could hector them into releasing her stuff? The lady truly is special, and not in a nice way.
In TN we have a mile long yard sale (twice a year) where I'm pretty sure those kinds of transactions are made.
