Phantom Calls to 911?
A reader sent us an e-mail:
- Is it true that old landlines are degrading and generating phantom 911 calls, resulting in needless visits by PO's? Reason I ask is, after months of problems with my landline, yesterday we had a very concerned police officer pounding on our door, asking if we were ok. And no, we had NOT placed a 911 call. In fact, there was no dial tone on that line so we couldn't have made that call, or any call, from that line.Officer asked if we had landlines and seemed relieved all was well. We were mortified and apologized for the problem. Later that day we got a call on another line, different number, from 911 saying this glitch had continued to make calls to 911.My phone service problems are annoying, but it is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE for this issue to add to the burden of 911 and the PO's who respond to these calls. Is there anything that can be/is being done about this?
The reason we even bring it up is that on Sunday, the fbi director had this to say:
Outgoing FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed during an interview on Sunday, a week before he steps down, that China has penetrated America’s water treatment plants, electric grid, and other critical civilian infrastructure, and is lying “in wait” for an opportunity to cyberattack at a time and place of its choosing.
Asked on CBS’s 60 Minutes about Chinese penetration of U.S. cyber and infrastructure, Wray said China’s cyber program is the largest in the world and has stolen more of Americans’ personal and corporate data than every nation combined.
Gee, isn't anti-terrorism and anti-espionage stuff part of the fbi responsibility?
While the fbi was busy investigating School Board meetings, abortion protestors daring to pray, fans of the traditional Latin Mass, and senior citizens who were in Washington DC last inauguration, Red China was making inroads into unprotected computer systems AND THE fbi WAS 100% AWARE OF IT and is dumping the news on the eve of a new administration.
Just when you think the fbi couldn't sink any lower, they bring in a shovel and start digging a new basement. Disband these fools.

It's like focusing on "racist" traffic stops, cameras for traffic violations, and new flag designs when upwards of 2,500 people per year are getting shot. Where are the priorities?
I am a 911 dispatcher in the suburbs and when we get calls like this it’s usually from residents who had or once had VOIP ( voice over internet provider)

Our dispatch used to get 9-1-1 calls from an old landline that is buried underneath a school parking lot. Ironically, it had been buried for maybe 15 years before the false signals began. / One eve our home phone number popped up on the TV screen, and caller ID, while our home phone was ringing. Phone company could offer no explanation.
That might explain the strange call I gotten asking about my parents home, Asian sounding woman asking is my parents home is for sale? She stated she with a agency buying of houses on the southeast side of Chicago. I stated no, I thin asked who are you and agency you with she put her hand over phone speaking to someone else than hung up.
If you don't have any wired phones in the house in use any longer, then go out behind the house, open up the grey square box marked "Ameritech", and disconnect the phone plug from the socket.
This will isolate the outside phone line from the inside phones.
If the problem goes away, it was something inside. Old equipment? Something in a jack you didn't know about? Old computer with a modem that someone hacked and is using to fuck with you?
If the problem continues, it's on the outside of the house. Someone tied into your line somewhere dialing 911?
A decade ago, the office where I worked got repeated call backs from 911 operators for phantom 911 calls. A trunk line that hadn't been in use for a couple of years still showed in their system as our main number that linked to 300 people.
It took months for the phone company to determine that the problem was on their end and then more months stop it.
