A Chicago police officer has been given court supervision and ordered to perform community service for an off-duty incident in which he allegedly drove recklessly and evaded on-duty cops who tried to pull him over. Body camera footage of the same officer’s behavior during a previous traffic stop went viral in 2021.
Jonathan Mehrhoff, who joined the force in June 2018, continues to work as a $108,012-per-year officer in the Austin (15th) District, a police spokesperson said Wednesday.
On the evening of November 27, 2022, a Harrison (11th) District tactical unit tried to pull Mehrhoff over after seeing his Acura MDX run two red lights in the 400 and 500 blocks of South Kostner, a CPD arrest report said. But the Acura “accelerated in speed and disregarded [the officers’] attempt to stop the vehicle,” the report continued.
Mehrhoff, 34, headed onto the inbound Eisenhower Expressway, drove on the shoulder, then “came to an abrupt stop causing [the officers] to make an evasive maneuvers [sic] to avoid crashing into the Acura MDX,” said the report stated.
So....an asshole AND a dick, trying to make Officers crash into him.
And not his first instance of being recorded acting as a Grade A jagoff.
The mugshot over at CWB isn't a surprise either.

Hey Johnathan, if you’re reading this, you’re no better than the ghetto thug lowlifes out there. If the city didn’t lower its standards in the toilet when you got hired, you’d be slinging rocks at Chicago and Trumbull.
We (CPD Officers) are uninterested with Superintendent Snelling. He has lead our CPD Blue Shirts into the gutter over uniform standards and petty offenses . It’s thou he is clueless on how to run a organization. He lost sight on our mission and goals. He has driven a wedge between us and the management tasked with leading us. The hatred I see and hear for the current leadership is deafening. The camaraderie is gone and replaced with mistrust for one another. Suicide has become the new normal. No one wants to do extra with how low our morale has become. For many it’s just a chore coming to work. I feel the beloved department is in bleak times. Most just want to retire and move away. I wonder if this is just talk or will it really happens.
So they chased him? I thought there was a no-chase policy.

If they were serious about change they would pick people capable of passing an exam and leading the department. I’m sure he is in line for a merit promotion. He sure acts like he is from the privileged class. As a future boss he could enjoy some special right or advantage that most workers don't have. It must be nice to be in titled.

Another DEI hire. Stories like this get me sick. I have zero respect for BIA (IAD). There cases are all predetermined and how has he been allowed to stay on the job. Why has he not been stripped. He gave the whole department a black eye. At the very least he should be in call back. I guess he is looking at the same amount of time a PO who didn’t purchase a stupid city sticker. A hard working employee following the rules has been reduced to a SUCKER. So saddening.

I have a year and a half to go. The going’s on in my last few years seem crazy. What goes on now makes me understand why a lot of new officers quit. Crap like this was never tolerated. How is this guy even allowed to work. Off duty crap was never tolerated. We all knew to keep are self clean. On duty person was in control. We have now entered a bazar CPD New World Order.
The officers in the unmarked car violated the GO. They observed multiple traffic violations. That should’ve ended the chase ,pursuit, following, whatever.

Mehrhoff's language and demeanor are an embarrassment to our badge and our profession. Did he really have at least two years of college? He talks like he is straight out of the hood. He also violated a few Rules of the police department. This is the kind of case IAD could hang their hat on if they had any intelligence. Eluding, reckless driving, failing to produce DL (initially). Fail to provide police ID (initially), bringing discredit to the department. Not at all a professional.
No one would miss him if he gets fired.

Embarrassment is putting it to nice. He was charged with a criminal offense. How about “Criminals on CPD”. Hired by personnel. We need to seriously raise our requirements and raise the pay to attract the best. Also stop promoting unqualified people that tear down the the whole institution. Something has to give.

Professional courtesy begins with the off-duty officer who is pulled over being respectful to the on-duty officers. It begins with, "I'm sorry officer, I'm on the job too. Here's my DL, Insurance and dept. ID." It doesn't start with, "I'm just like you, you tweaking. I don't have to show you sh*t."

Not so long ago another hand job from 10 did the same thing, but crashed killing a woman and himself in 11 at Roosevelt and Kostner. Yet the 10th district put a plaque up on the wall to remember him ... right next to other POs that actual lost their lives in battle. Typical CPD bs.
I remember this guy from CST in the summer of 2021. He only had 2 years on at the time and acted like a salty 30 year veteran who didn’t want to do a single thing. He had many partners mostly because nobody wanted to work with him. I remember a detective who go sent there via reverse seniority got stuck with him and basically told him to stfu and get in line in front of us when they worked together. He was the only one able to put up with that lazy dog for a few weeks and used to go to in progress calls all the time which upset meathoff. I think that summer is when he got into his first beef off duty. Total waste of space
This is what happens when the departments lowers standards to the point that they hire anyone with a heartbeat. If only the media knew and investigated the fact that for the last 4-5 years the background investigators at HR have been told by their LT and above to "rework" boxes of files of people that had already been rejected for one reason or another. Why? Because they don't have enough candidates and the department is desperate. I have first-hand knowledge about this. It is absolutely disgusting and dangerous for everyone, including officers that have to work with these people that should have never been hired, and to the citizens that have officers that have no business being on the job. But the higher-ups don't care as long as they look good to their bosses and kiss their a$$ for the next promotion. Just look at how many officers have been fired and/or arrested within the first 1-3 years of being hired. Stats don't lie.

Mysteriously the inside is always overly staffed. 270 hidden in different assignments at the academy. 120 plus on Johnson’s security detail. No idea why the sdsc rooms have to have two po’s. Mysteriously 016 Caps never lists everyone working on the second and third watch sheets ever. Every single person in the front office could be civilian. TAC could lose an entire team in every district.
