K.A. Good Lord. A supervisor? Luck, answers to the test, whatever. The dumbest and softest officer I’ve ever met. Must have influential connections where he was able to ride it out in a unit with people knowing he’s incompetent with no time on the job.

I see why it took so long to promote sergeants. The merit list is ordinary. This entire test should’ve been thrown out. Individuals that deserve merit promotions no longer submit packages.

I wonder how many of those "merit" selectees gave an envelope full of cash to someone. If rumors are true about Yo-Yo and Snelling disagreeing on merit appointees we can draw some interesting conclusions and draw some circles around certain groups of a path to "cloutorious" slection.
I also cant help but wonder if any "privileged" study groups by invitation only shared test info. But those people are always at the top of the list. They dont take the second part of the test.

Del is a great guy. I got lucky and worked with him in 009 on 1st watch. That's a well deserved merit pick.
Fewer merit slots will only increase the dick sucking required. Probably have to go above and beyond now.

Cuevas from 018 spent more time abusing the medical than on the streets. Weird odor coming from squad car A/C vent. Hits medical for a year while his partner is back to work the next day. Comes back and has to qualify at the range. Hits the medical for another year for lead poisoning. What a joke. Good luck to whoever ends up with him.

In my opinion, no merit picks are truly deserving. Anyone who got in on merit should consider themselves lucky—they only made it because of their affiliations and/or connections. In a nutshell, merits are too dumb to pass a simple test.
Del Toro is a was a great PO. Made ET and was thorough in his work. He’s going to make a great supervisor.
Art Bracho and Herm Del Toro are definitely worth the promotion. Keep in mind that Art is a worker AND he was shot in the line of duty - that’s when the merit process should be used. Del is just smart and compassionate … both will make excellent supervisors. Congrats guys.
Del is awesome. Patient and smart. Great use of merit! You new guys/gals will be lucky to have him as your supervisor.

How many of the specialized unit promotions will be going right back to their unit without a day in a district like Sgt Baz out of HQ? But then from what I hear district coppers are glad he didn't come. How's your problem deal with it.

Was at Bobby g’s and heard area 1 PRT is going to shit. Some guys were talking about leaving because two greedy ass sergeants abused the fuck out of the OT and now they have none. Zero. They don’t even have extensions anymore. Dude these 2 sargents made 350k+. These guys all want to leave the unit because of how dry it is

VC from 018 is the biggest medical/IOD abuser ever. He only recently came off light duty because he knew he was making sgt soon. The district that's unlucky enough to get this guy will be down one sgt(him) almost immediately. Not that long ago he went IOD for lead exposure after qualifying because he overheard the range guys talking about their elevated lead levels from working at the range.

How do you know they can't pass a test? Perhaps they don't want to be a supervisor? You don't need to be "smart" to pass this test. It'sa lottery and some simply get lucky. The proof is in the pudding - some of these supervisors are clueless and scared because they've always been taken care of. Finally your last sentence makes no sense and your punctuation is way off Einstein.
I think it should be required to publish the test scores of the merit, and they should be required to take all parts of the promotional exams. Accountability and transparency are mythical

While they did make a lot of money, the Unit was called out at Comstat about a month ago for the OT being at 1.1 million for the first three months of the year. And the civilian talking about it knows the scams. He said they were going to start looking at when the arrest was made, when the paperwork/call to Felony Review started and completed, then when the guy got into lock up or charges approved compared to when the slip ended. But OT getting pulled back everywhere

Addressing a white shirt Sir or Man is not a problem, ego is not your amigo. OP brings up a good point. With 5 years on the job(hopefully in a beat car) how much experience could one have. I work in a unit where everyone has 20+ yotj, supervisors especially. I've yet to meet a 5 year freshly minted supervisor. 10 years sound more reasonable. Promoting someone with 5 years on, an unexperienced officers does nothing but disservice to the watch the supervisor will land on. This ship is going down fast.

There is a popular misconception regarding merit promotions.....passing a test and a scoring high enough for rank order promotion are 2 different things. All these merit picks passed the test, yet they may not have scored high enough to make it in rank order. Sometimes only a few points separate ranking high enough to make it in rank order. The problem is, most of the neanderthals on this job don't understand the difference.

Pick your poison biggest complaint before was promotional exams weren't given out often.. and when promotions were given they were so low in quantity if you didnt score in the top 2% of the 1 or 2 tests given within your career, you would never get promoted. Due to this most that did get promoted had time and experience and were better leaders based on it.
Now they are supposed to give out the test every 2 years or so, which caused the pool of those getting promoted to be younger, less experienced but book smart, yet lack the smarts and ability to know how to apply book knowledge in different situations that are outside the "box".
Sounds like DEI to me.
The country doesn't want police officers that think for themselves, no they want those they can mold into what they as the non police think police officers should be like.
The waiter telling the chef who went to school and has a talent to cook, how to make his dishes because that person saw it on tic tok, or etc. They think the law suits and payouts for police misconduct were bad before, they haven't seen anything yet.
