Just yesterday, we posted about Traffic Stops being outlawed.
Today, CPD opened it's "Public Input" website to see how badly the public wants Police to stop enforcing the Law and take "fetal" to a whole new level:
Over a year ago, the Independent Monitor overseeing the Consent Decree between the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois recommended that traffic stops be included in the Consent Decree. Any changes to CPD’s traffic stop policy would be subject to oversight by the Independent Monitor and the federal judge overseeing the Consent Decree case.
Per City Ordinance, the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) has jurisdiction over CPD general orders that are not a part of the Consent Decree. The Commission consistently stated that if traffic stops were to be included in the Consent Decree, it would need to play an important role in shaping the policy.
If adopted into the Consent Decree, this would place any changes to CPD’s traffic stop policy under the oversight of the Independent Monitor and the federal judge overseeing the Consent Decree case. However, traffic stops have not yet been formally included in the Consent Decree. Doing so would require an agreement between the City of Chicago and the Illinois Attorney General, and the approval of the judge in the Consent Decree case.
Hop over the link up top. When you get to the site, you can read through the first document - it's a four page bit of fluff....with a couple interesting statistics:
- 2023 Total Traffic Stops - 535,166
- 2024 Total Traffic Stops - 293,150
And:
- 2023 Verbal Warnings - 516,141 (96%); Citations Issued - 19,025 (4%)
- 2024 Verbal Warnings - 269,038 (92%); Citations Issued - 24,112 (8%)
And then:
- 2023 Searches - 4,725 (0.88%); Contraband Found - 3,705 (78%)
- 2024 Searches - 3,561 (1.21%); Contraband Found - 2,684 (75%)
Gee, 96 times out of 100, CPD let people go without even a citation.
Gosh, a two year average shows CPD searched cars around 1% of the time.
Golly, but when they do, CPD finds contraband 3 times out of 4.
It certainly doesn't seem like cops are picking on anyone....or picking the wrong people, contrary to the stories told by the media, activists and democrats (but we repeat ourselves).
If you go down the the third document, you get the CCPSA report with a whole list of stops that they are proposing CPD stop doing, including missing / improperly attached plates, expired plates, burned out headlights, loud music violations, turn signals and no seat belts among others, ALL of which are currently against Illinois Law.

I have resisted saying policing in Chicago is dead when everybody else has said it. I knew we would always adapt. But this is it. It’s done. The section about searching vehicles will be a historic disaster. Tact teams will only be good for details and protests because traffic stops will go the way of street stops if this thing rolls out without major changes. It’s actually terrifying

Been saying this for years ….Traffic stops by CPD are racists !! Plain and simple. We should abolish all traffic stops immediately this is long over due. How can we expect the gangsters to make a living while being harassed by CPD. They should be able to freely transport their narcotics and weapons freely with out interference by CPD. How can they include said policy if all these violations are against IL law . If anybody I know or myself are harmed in an accident I encourage you to sue the City and this garbage oversight committee because said policies they have established have caused danger to the Community . I will symbolically sue for 1.25 million dollars for Saint Dexter .
No traffic stops means no more blue cards. What in the world will the department do with all of these blue cards sitting in the districts collecting dust?

I wish some rogue “journalist” in this city would write up an honest article regarding the self imposed non-federal consent decree and the real costs involved with this thing. Things like more criminals walking freely amongst citizens on a daily basis, higher taxes to fund all of these organizations involved, and the general sense of fear that most citizens have of the impending criminality that may be wreaked upon them. Our downtown area used to be full of businesses which are now gone or will be leaving soon. Citizens and tourists from all over the world used to love to go downtown and spend a little time and money because it was safe. Now, the tourists are gone and we have cars taking over major intersections to do donuts while firing off illegal fireworks. Every week people are getting shot and robbed down there. How did our elected officials allow this to happen? What’s the plan to reverse course? Or are we going full Gotham city?

Houston PD is always looking. The pay might be a little less but theres no residency so you can live where you want. Good schools in its suburbs so you can head there. Greg Abbott and the Republicans are about to pass a school voucher bill that gives you 10 grand if you choose to put your kid in private. I haven't had to buy a plastic bag for my groceries in 6 years. No city sticker to buy. Illinois does nothing for its taxpayers but pick their pockets. Leave while you can if you don't have that much time on. There are many departments that'll snap you up since you're already certified.
What’s a traffic stop?
Since they legalized weed and you can no longer pull over a car reeking of it how many driving while impaired accidents will kill innocent people. I'm sure all those " don't drive while high signs" will make a difference. Beyond stupid should be the new Illinois motto. The new rules of the road booklet should just say " do whatever the F... you want, there are no more consequences"

As I’m retired & park in my garage, I’ve purchased my last city sticker until I can GTFO of here. All this city does is grift the honest, working, responsible of this city. I no longer need to take the Hell drive on the Ryan or Eisenhower that I did for decades. Anytime I now drive in the city, drivers are flat out nuts and criminal and these are the same people that get stopped for things like no plates, blowing lights, weaving in traffic, speeding etc. I was a diehard 5th generation Chicagoan. I’ve no desire to stay in a city that my family literally helped build.

I have been unable to utilize the (LEEP) Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal from the WIRE, this is the portal to access federal law enforcement sites. The FEDS have blocked our access because our internet access is not secure, SMDH!
No, but you can get your plate "flipper" or a reflective license place cover without worry about being stopped.

I had a headlight assembly issue on my new car. Replacement part was supposed to be a 3-4 month wait ( yeah 3-4 months). Only vehicle we owned so that was the vehicle we had to use. I was stopped by law enforcement 3 times more or less as a safety warning but had to provide DL and proof of insurance. Small towns so another unit or two showed up. 20-25 minutes on the side of the road having my plate run and name checked. Retired cop ID really didnt matter. I’m White, not offended but aggravated for the part delay. Finally resolved.

Disagree. Visited Peru some years back and was extorted $5 on a traffic stop. The officer spoke what sounded like some gibberish, kept repeating “blah blah blah dolares, blah blah dolares” over and over. I pulled out a mighty Americano five dollar bill and his face lit up like a candle. 3rd world shitholes’ law enforcement conduct traffic stops, unlawful that is. I felt like the King of South America that day, for $5 American dollars. Not even joking probably could have been elected President for a $150. Powerful feeling, this was 2011.

We're almost there already with the out of control reckless driving. Not a day goes by (in the city or suburbs) that someone doesn't run a red light, pass on the right, drive on a sidewalk, pass on the left from a turn lane back into traffic once the light changes, etc, etc. etc. Drive as defensively as you can and hope you or your loved one(s) survive. Will the city take any kind of a financial hit with fewer traffic stops and tickets? Of course, the ramifications far out weigh what a simple traffic ticket produces.
God forbid the crash into one of your family members currently. None know how to drive, know the rules of the road, know how to follow said rules nor have insurance.
