Dart's people are bitching about the jail getting busy?
Early in the morning outside Cook County Jail, a group of new detainees stepped out of a Chicago police wagon and walked bleary-eyed into the bright sunlight before lining up inside against a brick wall. Brought in from the police districts, the men were among the newest bookings to the jail, where they would wait until a judge ruled on whether they would be admitted or released while their charges were pending.
And the jail, busy during the early morning hours as police brought in overnight arrestees and deputies shuttled detainees to court appearances, may only grow more bustling: After a decline following statewide bail reform — and years of reductions prior to that — the county’s jail population has begun to tick up once again.
In an internal report obtained by the Tribune via a public records request, the Cook County sheriff’s office found that the average daily jail population has risen by about 12% in recent months, reaching its highest level in eight months at the end of March. The report also found sharp increases in detention for some charge types for which State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke has implemented policy changes.

- When Burke took office in early December, the jail’s population was around 5,200, having increased slightly at the end of Foxx’s term, according to data from the sheriff’s office. As of Friday, the population had grown to just over 5,600.
You know what the jail population was back in the 1980sand 90s? Over 10,000 with some summer weekends ballooning to 12,000. The overcrowding was so bad, they were stuffing bunk beds into the gymnasiums and sticking 1,000 in there, and those were just the low level criminals who'd be walking out Monday morning. Assorted Federal courts fined the sheriff's office tens-of-thousands per day for the crowding issues.
Fifty-six-hundred is nothing....if you had been running the jail properly.

Hey Bud, I used to work for cook county department of corrections. I was on the helicopter,sort,swat,tact,executioner, watch tower,seal team6, and other units. When i worked a tier there were just over 9000 prisoners i had to deal with. I was never by myself, i had my two partners. My lethal weapons aka my two fists. Cook county for life brother

His budget tripled, closed EM unit, whining about 30% inmates under previous Sheriff's. Just resign Clown!
Ironically, jail operated much more efficiently before dart with 15k inmates. Fewer lawsuits, more order, less death. CC jail has had record inmate deaths with half pop under warden Tom. Maybe if his campaign workers we're at jail as oppose ghosting, could be different outcome.
He might be inmate 6501 soon. Office is under multiple Federal investigations.

I worked at CCDOC from 91 to94. During the warm months the average population was around 12,000 and during the winter months it would increase to 13,500.
Jail population has gone down over the years but the sheriff's budget has remained close to the same.

Worked the jail from 2010-2015 and the jail population was around 8/9k. TV Tommy brought it down to half of that with his dumb EM program.
The sherriff is elected to run the prison system within the county. If he is too bothered to do so, we will replace him. IMHO Dart has personally ruined the home monitoring ankle bracelet system with Zero enforcement.

Dart started with 7400 sworn employees in 06, Down under 5k, Budget increased, inflation considered. Question: Where is funding going with half inmates? Most street units are shut down, including EM.. Feds are probably looking into that too. He needs to resign and / or indicted.

I’ll never forget his hysterics when concealed carry became law. He vowed he was going to object to as many applications as possible. And predicted bloodshed in the streets. Of course there’s bloodshed in the streets but what these assholes can’t understand is that law abiding citizens getting back ground checks aren’t the problem.
Remember this from 2016? Back when they said we didn't need the prison buildings anymore because they were not putting as many people in Prison.

I remember 13,000+ heads when I worked there on certain days. They demolished and closed down many buildings. That place now is nothing it used to be. I'm glad I'm not there anymore.
