Hired then Fired
We thought CPD's hiring was bad....check out NYPD's disaster:
The NYPD is trying to force dozens of officers and recruits who failed to meet the department’s standards to resign — but the effort faced a roadblock late Thursday after a state judge blocked the move, the Post has learned.
At least 30 cops and cadets – hired between 2023 and 2024 under Inspector Terrell Anderson, who has since been transferred out of his role with the Police Academy – were notified of the NYPD’s attempt to purge them Thursday, according to the sources.
“They all got called down,” a police source told The Post. “They’re being told: ‘You didn’t meet the qualifications. You shouldn’t have been hired. You have 24 hours to resign or be fired.’”
Many of the individuals had psych issues. Others lied about arrests, convictions and previous job terminations. But an allegedly crooked high ranking exempt-type passed them all through the hiring process after the commissioner lowered hiring standards.
For those who were around in the early 90s, CPD had a similar fiasco when a number of people were disqualified during the "psych exam" and deemed unworthy of being hired. Many dozens sued and were later scattered among later hiring classes.
We met quite a few, and some ended up being decent cops. Others....well, there certainly appears to be some solid reasoning behind those types of exams.
The whole NYPD thing is going to court, but perhaps the first hiring mistake was the exempt who thought he could just disregard established protocols.

The ones that don't get indicted or fired will become bosses running the department in 15 years.
COPA for exempts, what a fun thought?
IQ test for exempt appointment?
Annual ethics statement?
Personal liability?
Federal oversight, already have it.
Theres a bunch of people working the street that shouldn’t have passed a psych.
The judge in Chicago ruled that it was too late to fire them after they bought uniforms and guns was way too late they should have been fired before they spent any money. That sounds logical but I think the class in question was a 1987 class that on 5 made it to 3 years on the job out of about 25-30 recruits. The class was considered the biggest failure of any class in Chicago Police history.
You mean like CPD did and currently still gives retakes on any test the candidates failed... until they "pass" it.
Oh the lawsuits and misconduct coming in the next decade + will make the 90s scandals look like a thirsty Thursday arrest.

"Project 100,000 was a failed experiment. It proved to be a distraction for the military and of little benefit to the men it was created to help."
I served with one, an OK guy but if you worked with him much, noticeably a tad slow.
Well liked and a hard worker. he was often asked why he kept at it? All he had to do was refuse an order and he would have been sent packing.
His answer was that if he could complete two years and receive an honorable discharge he could get a "Good job."
I always hoped that he made it to discharge, and so did many others.
I have heard many stories by non vets on this topic and do not any of them, many of this group washed out in basic and advanced training.
Psych test and polygraph are pseudo science trash. At this point it’s well known that psychology is a very soft science at best, if it is a science at all. It’s complete subjective nonsense at worst.
It’s more important to meet quotas, get DEI representatives hired and get to the affirminative action goals after lowering all standards than to hire the right applicant.
This sounds like the beginning of Merit!
glad Chicago has such hire standards or else we would not have that top notch, cracker jack 1st deputy (sarcasm)
Don’t forget, an entire CPD recruit class went the whole academy without ever having to complete the state mandated POWER test because the Superintendent’s son could never pass it. That recruit class went on to produce some of the most obese cops on the department. They were obese and out of shape in the academy and never had to pass the POWER test.
Agree ——the doctors that determine ptsd for disability are part of the junk science ——pay me $450.00 an hour and I’ll diagnose you crowd.
Nah, you can tell a lot by talking to someone.
What do you think the psych test measures?
Typical New York.
Not by the old standards...not by a longshot.
Who woulda thought that if you lowered hiring standards, you would hire future lawsuits.
The most corrupt department in the world. Treat it no more than just a check, a job. Used to be a great and proud department. But those days are over. Shame.
Rejected, retested, worked, and now retired here. I was rejected after a really weird psych test and interview that was sub contracted out to some city connected firm. I accepted that I was rejected and didn't join the lawsuit. Since it was class action, everyone affected benefited from the courts action. I was contacted, retested and did well. I didnt think I would take the job, but I got laid off and it made more sense to take the job than start over in the private sector. I was broke, so I accepted the position. We were known as the rejects, and even saw the "spitball" class while we were in the academy. Discipline was lax at the academy which was running two shifts. As far as I know, at least five of my class of 30 were terminated for various reasons and two went to jail within 10 years. Several just quit. The standards were lowered at least twice while I was on the job, and the difference was noticeable. The college requirement changed things a lot too. It seemed that a lot of street sense dissappeared in the new hires. Anyways, I'm out now, and all I can say is, "what a ride"...I liken it to a glass bottom boat ride through the sewers of Chicago... With all the changes now, (cameras, DEI etc) I dont think I could do the job they do today. Some of my peers didnt belong on the job, but the supervision quickly became the forefront issue. I had peers that dissappeared right after the academy, and the next time I heard about them, they were getting promoted. stay safe and stay out of trouble. G-d bless
Wasn’t there a spell where recruits were vetted by Cleo from the Psychic Hotline? Not joking here.
Wow, I was one of those applicants that failed the psych part. I thought it was because I told the truth to the question, " Have you ever considered suicide?". I tried to explain in the review portion, that the only honest answer is YES, anyone saying no was either lying or did not understand English. My understanding is that NO was the only acceptable answer to pass along.
Totally agree! Leadership is the worst I ever seen it with 25 years on. Every rank has no one who is really trying to lead. All of them have the wrong idea about leading.
It takes a thief to catch a thief. Cop that had a rough patch as a young’en have edge to offer the force.
NASA would not take Chuck Yeager for Astronaut program.
Audie Murphy was rejected by the Marine Corps considered cannon fodder. Sgt York was laughed at for training on hunting squirrels in Tennessee being a heavy drinker & conscientious objector. Hero’s are self made, White Shirts are usually just empty clock watchers. “When does my next vacation start?”
Spot on! So agree with the Officers comments and add bad policies made by the Superintendent and DEI study groups messed things up all around.
Its in every facet of employment especially in big blue states and cities. The promoting of incompetency.
which superintendent’s son?
Couldn’t agree more. Spot on. I would have add some more. But completely agree.
They have the department they wanted. Sad.
im pretty sure anybody can be a judge.......
Way Off topic:
How does one find out what kind of supp insurance one has? which Insurance company name? Recently went on the medical and I know a couple years back I signed up for it
The polygraph is a tool to use for certain type of interviews. It does have problems and limitations, but if you know the limitations it has been proved to be a useful tool with the right polygraph examiner. I have used it in the past on "victims" that I knew were lying and with the machine "evidence" got the "victims" to be acknowledge their deception.
ha,yea,, polygraph test used to be given by one of the biggest scam artists there ever was
If you signed up for supplemental insurance a few years ago you are not on the medical. Your retired and not feeling well.

I was retested as well, and was given the advice, "Tell them what you think they want to hear" ...I did it and I ended up at CPD in the well qualified category. Would I do it all over again knowing what I know now? I cant say that I would.
Check your pay stub on green slips. There would be a deduction each check. It will more than likely be Combined Ins or Aflack.

Conservative political Leadership is needed badly to save the City and its Fire and Police Departments. Forever Democrat leadership has been an abject failure for so long now it has become routine. It’s time for all Chicago-Crrk County resident to wake up once and for all. The Democrat Party is for Losers who can’t make it any other way other than politicing. Dump these Democrats and watch how everything changes for the better. The Democrat Party is the party of stupidity and corruption, and will never be successful, ever. Even the lying Media can’t cover for them any longer.
It's not free, so who have you been paying?
Uh, I have never, ever, ever thought of taking my own life- EVER! I don't understand nor do I comprehend that way of thinking. It is not coded into my DNA. It's like hearing a foreign language and not being able to understand or comprehend what is trying to be communicated. I guess it's like failing or quitting- neither of which I've ever understood.
On the police exam in the 90s there was a question is or was “your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather a Chicago police officer ?” If you checked yes you were automatically referred for an oral psych which everyone failed.
I believe it was a Daley thing after the police en masse supported Jane Byrne over Daley as Byrne gave us a contract so long denied us. A law suit overturned the rejections. Those who persevered were eventually hired.
Just a Girl: some lies are easy to spot. You thought about suicide AS YOU TYPED YOUR COMMENT. You rejected it, but how could you comment about something you never thought of? Work it through in your head. Btw the writer that typed "just give the answer they want" is 100% correct. Sad, but reality.
Amen on that... I get asked that at my Doctors office during a routine visit, and I look at them and say, "I never think about suicide", "I know they say everybody does, but I NEVER think about it, ever.." I have gone through some dark deep times, and it was never on the table for me. I have always had the means. I just never had the will. My faith in G-d has sustained me in times of trouble. There go I but for the grace of G-d...
CPD will hire anyone with a pulse these days. Just look at what's been coming out of the academy for the last 10 years.
Lmao 😂 now you're showing your age
Yes, Anne Burke firm did the lawsuit against Alderman Bill Hogballs Beavers who tried to use Cleo and Co. from the psychic Hotline to deep six all the very highly qualified Caucasian officers from the 92 test.
Thinking about suicide as you comment about it on a blog is entirely different than actualy considering it as an option. If the idea of it comes across as an option, you may need to reach out to someone. Just saying...
Right on
Cline
“Terrell”… haha!! ‘Nuff said!! Lol
In my class we had a gal who couldnt pass the State exam. Even had problems at the range. They let her retry, but had to let her go. She let her nerves get to her any time she was under pressure. She was nice, but had no buisness being the police. That was in the early to mid 90's. I imagine that they work even harder to pass someone now.
It was Ed Johnson’s son they waived the PT and POWER tests for all the classes that were in session while he went thru. PT was taking a walk around the academy.
Anonymous, it might be thinking of suicide in a different way, but it is still 100% "considering suicide". Please don't lie or obfuscate. It's funny, you realize I am correct, please don't embarrass yourself further.

Reading com·pre·hen·sion is fun-da-mental.
Ps never have I ever thought of quitting at this game of life- EVER.
I've known many who've left and got off this ride too early. But when D. M. took his own life and that of his two children...
Mick Belker Says:
NYPD is corrupted just like Chicago PD. Instead of hiring these young queer and strange individuals incapable of fighting crime, they should hire back honorably retired Officers, experienced and familiar with procedures, and have them work all inside jobs, and send the younger officers all out to fight street crime. If those put out on the street cant handle it, they need to resign or face termination.
