Skip a Grade?
Chicago Public Schools is trying to make sure more students from a range of backgrounds are able to skip an entire grade or accelerate in a single subject.
Board members were briefed Wednesday on proposed changes to the acceleration policy and will vote at their July 24 meeting.
In the past, few students were allowed to jump ahead a grade or get accelerated instruction in math or reading, or both, and they were mostly from schools with few low-income students, according to data obtained by WBEZ. In a statement, CPS said most students came from North Side schools.
We can hear the cries of "racism!" already:
- The current policy for skipping a grade or moving ahead in reading and math calls for schools or parents to refer students and says they are only eligible if they exceed standards on the state standardized test. But only 4% of elementary school students exceed standards, and no students in either math or reading hit that mark in more than 100 schools.
It isn't like the teachers are actually helping the kids learn anything.

What's up with the department allowing people with metal disorders on the job. The 602 250lb black male instructor who worked at the academy, teaching recruits for years, decided to come out as a Tranny. Now he/she is being hidden at headquarters. Kinda hard to hide a big buff dude with tits and a wig.
I skipped 4th grade, and I’m a person of color. Then again, I went to school in 70’s. Back then teachers actually taught.
Check out attendance records and you'll see most CPS grads skipped a few grades.
The things about being double promoted, as any of us dinosaurs can tell you, are these:
You are now amongst both a year older than you and effectively not known to you as your classmates. Being a year older, you are seen by these new classmates as fresh meat, aka, easy to bully.
Your new 'teacher' is highly unlikely, as in rarely, capable of even noticing this, let alone being in any way helpful to nullify it.
You, being younger, then have to discover how to deal with this yourself.
Both the 'teacher' considering you to be source of any discord and the bully breed imagining you are weak.
A sharpened pencil is now your friend.
I shall say no more.
Wait a minuet, how about the 32 or so students from Whitney Young who scored perfect scores on the ACT after taking the test 6 times? There was another school of minorities with similar results that was pushed under the table because they knew red flags would be up if two schools of minorities had that many perfect scores.
And how about the school with 100% of their students getting admitted to college? They are wearing Ivy League hats and other top grade school hats but they all applied to and were admitted to Chicago State and Chicago City Colleges who accept anyone no questions asked no entrance requirements. You can fool the public all the time.
When you aspire to be a rapper basketball player or banger who needs school
The entitlement mentality continues, NOT earned.
Dude, there is no one from the hood that should be skipping a grade in CPS. Stop thinking all cultures and backgrounds should have the same percentages of Doogie Housers.
skip a grade? how about learning to read and write before being given just a passing grade?
Rumor has it CPS failed to make payroll today for retro pay due to teachers from their new contract. Whoops!
Years of inbreeding and drug use.
I have seen really good teachers struggle to teach the kids but the kids do not care and there is no pushback from parents, usually single mothers. Then, there some really bad teachers who should not be in the system, Then there are really bad Board policies that just push the kids until they graduate. The entire system needs to be torn apart and rebuilt. You can't teach to someone who just does not care and calls it " acting white".
The governor has more important things to worry about. After Joey Chestnut won the national hotdog eating contest, JB Lizzo is only interested now in holding on to his state of Illinois title. He facing a strong challenge by Ald. Jason Ervin and his wife. Does anyone know if Patrick Mahomes still is the Kansas state champ?
With DEI being pushed why should one have to read. As long as they check a box their all good.
I finna be gettin my doctorate and stuff.
Instead of skipping a grade, why not have all the CPS scholars who can’t read or do math repeat a grade. End the jobs program for CTU and end social promotion.
Call it for what it is “babysitting”.
Again, pandering to the SPECIAL people.
Looking at this from another angle. Assuming double promoting moves the students toward their diploma faster, wouldn’t the cost to educate them be reduced?
Remember the Tiny Dancer fighting with Karen Lewis, “ I will not have those fucking kids on the fucking street!”
Lewis responded. “This isn’t about EDUCATING, this is about warehousing!”
Then Tiny D really lost his shit.
Ahhhh, good times in Chiraq.
who cares...fuck em, couldn't happen to a better bunch.
Or a paid professional protester.
don't forget drug dealer, they are looked up to
I can't say the annual frequency but some CPS kids have skipped grades in the past 20 years. They can and do give tests / evaluations for doing so on a case by case basis.
Years ago, I had a parent call me at home yelling at me because I gave her son an F on an essay. Problem was that he couldn’t read the words in the essay and copied it from a source. Mama’s response: so what. He turned in an essay.
Now there's a thought! I was assigned three hood kids - 5th graders - to tutor in reading. We were using a curriculum that was designed for English as a second language students, with good reason. None of the kids could even recite the alphabet, so starting at ground level was absolutely needed.
look at it this way, when they skip a grade, they won't have as many 18-year-olds graduating 8th grade, won't that look good?
…from Chicago State University?
THE LAST SANE INDIVIDUAL ON THE SOUTH SIDE SAYS:
It’s time for everyone to ignore all crys of Racism from blacks. America has bent over backwards for them for decades and look at the way they behave on a regular basis, instead of expressing gratitude. Giving them a pass on everything has led to nothing but disaster for them, and for all others of other races who have to deal with their dysfunctional. A helping hand is generosity but biting the hand that feeds you is dispicable. Enough is Enough, pull your own weight or GTFO. That goes for ALL Americans too.
Maybe they should do that at CPD. Get hired, Merit promotion and another, then another.... maybe move to Superintendent. Kind of sad.
That’s the sad part, because you should’ve been the model of what to do for all students irrespective of color- not lowering standards. There are huge studies that showed how lowering standards for minorities in K-12 left them unprepared for college. What did the education system do to rectify it? They lowered standards for university students. Now you have college kids who couldn’t point out their home state on a map.
Knew a teacher at northside prep. This was about 15 years ago. He had a black kid in his history class that was failing. The admin wanted him to pass the kid. The teacher resisted and said he’d work with the kid (kid of course unwilling). In the end, the administration won out and the kid was passed by changing him to another class and that teacher passed him.
It’s as bad now. I have a friend who teaches at a college. It’s a regular thing to be handing in AI generated papers. The students truly believe that if they complete the assignment, whether they even know what the paper states, it’s all fine because they met the deadline. Learning is dismissed. We are living in a post literate society. Kind of scary that this is who will be running the world in a few decades.
From what I have read, if a student scores in the top 10% of the standardized test co.pared to their peers in that school/classroom, they can skip a grade. This makes no sense.
Anyone ever read an old book "Freak Economics ", suggest you do. Tells how CPS fudges things. I think it was written in the 1980s
Get rid of the union
Cps is a lost cause. One high school on the northside, Mather High School the principal and the staff will not do anything to protect the saftey of the student body. Many times "bad students" or gang bangers are left to their own to do whatever they want. And when a situation where the code of conduct calls for police action the principal would not act on it because it might hurt the student and the staff's feelings. Case in point a few years ago there was a student that had a warrant and was even not a student anymore at mather. The student showed up, who was wanted by the police for a warrant, the principal who had knowledge of the warrant did not want to involve the police, His answer was he need to call the law department. The student then caused some issues and was detained by security and contacted the parent. The parent gave permission to the principal to notify the police and pick him up on the warrant. The priniciple declined and let the student be watched by school security. The student then walked the hallways of the school demanding his weed back. Now remeber the school resource officers were kicked out of the schools because the teachers thought it was a bad idea. The principal finally caved in an notified the police and the student was arrestted without incident. And not forget what had happen a few years later with the student being shot at school dismissal. And the police were not there to be deterrent. Agian it could have been prevented.
Remember kids "no child left behind" I found that it is easier for a teacher to "socially promote" a failing student than hold them back. It looks better for the stats for students to move a grade then being kept back. Now that being said, it also is to kick the can down the road and worry about the problem next year. Cps will not tell a parent about how many programs they have to offer a student that is failing. Only certain parents get the help when they demand special services for their student. They will have IAP's with a team of people to "help" the student that is failing or needs special help. The problem is that CPS will not tell the parent that there is help. Agian its smoke and mirrors for the school to look good with students going to the next grade. Good numbers more money for next year. CPS is a broken system.
It's so ridiculous how the leftist, mainstream media is racist without saying they are racist, constantly coming up with ways to say black and brown people without saying black and brown people....
"Students from a range of backgrounds"
Different from who? What "range" are they talking about? As if students from only "one background" skip grades because of their "background", as if parents of only "one background" don't read to their children when they are small, don't encourage their kids to do well in school, don't help them with homework, don't allow them to go wilding downtown, don't know where their kids are at all hours after 10 pm. GTFOH with their students "from a range of backgrounds". Nowadays if a student works hard and does very well they can skip grades, especially since the schools are run by teachers and staff "from a range of backgrounds" unless they are saying that the staff and teachers from a "range of backgrounds" are the real racists.
Those That Can Do!
Those That Can’t Teaches!
I hongreh !!!
It cannot be repeated enough.
Dissolve cps.
Liquidate all cps assets.
Selected real properties with deed covenants, all other real properties to highest bidder.
The cps is a ponzi scheme with all investoers being involuntary.
That’s stupid. There are good and qualified people trying their best to educate kids whose parents don’t give a woot about their education. You may think being a cop is hard, but it pales in comparison to teaching in a public school. By-the-way, who taught you read?
Motto of the Teachers Union "Fuck dem kidz"
Will this “ Skip a Grade” Concept be applied to CPD Merit Promotions sons day in the future?
NO Hating on this possibility, about 2030.
