Rivera Family Not Happy

We can't say we blame them:

  • An attorney for the family of Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera, who was fatally shot by her partner, [...], said Wednesday that [...] should have never been a police officer, given a serious complaint made against him during his probationary period, and the death of Rivera “should have never happened.”

The lawyer, Antonio Romanucci, at a news conference on Wednesday called for an independent investigation of the shooting, saying the Chicago Police Department narrative “does not pass the smell test” and asked the department to publicly release [...]’s full disciplinary record as well as police body cam footage from that night that left the family with more questions than answers. “We have many questions that need to be answered. And we don’t yet trust the narrative that officer Rivera was shot and killed by her partner during a pursuit of suspects who never fired a shot,” he said.

Romanucci wrote Chicago Police Department Supt. Larry Snelling a letter on Friday, requesting he ask the Illinois State Police to conduct an independent criminal investigation into the shooting and that he release video, audio and other evidence of the shooting.

Illinois State Police investigating would be step in the right direction. We trust them a lot farther than we would COPA.

We can't really agree with the release of video, audio and evidence at this time however. There is still the potential for this to all end up in front of a judge and jury, and the Rules of Evidence cannot be compromised until such time as that result is ruled out.

In the meantime, it's probably safe to assume that no one is seriously looking at our suggestions the other day regarding background checks, hiring practices and training. No one has the political will for everything that would be exposed.

The CPD’s IAD/BIA just covers things up and protects the city from lawsuits. Most will never know but IAD don’t try to get to the truth and their investigations are predetermined when it is against management and officers.

They’re right. If a citizen shot her they’d charge the citizen. But because it’s a copper it’s different and he’s going to be taken care of. That’s not right. SB who shot two coppers with one bullet is in a nice cushy inside job at headquarters. I don’t get it, never did, never will why some people are taken care of when they should not even be employed as peace officers.

Can we please ask that all the cucks who say things like “leave him alone” and “he’s dealing with enough already” please stfu.

If he had any decency he would have resigned already.
The circumstances are as follows: he pointed his gun at his partner and pulled the trigger. Negligently. End of story.

What does the city plan to do?
I’m sure he is on administrative leave, and will hit the psych roll in short order.
But does he get (rightfully) stripped?
Does the department lightly punish him in an effort to avoid liability?
Do they ask him to ride in a squad car with someone else further down the road?
Is his “punishment” being hidden at ERPS for the next 20 years to ride into a pension?

The guy has no business on the job, I wish the department would do the right thing and hold him accountable.

Sad situation. Looking at her picture on the slumtimes: She had the look/face of somebody that acutally joined CPD since she wanted to make a difference. And yeah - a persons face can tell a story. I've been around long enough to be able to make a pretty good call based just on the 'look' I get from people. I'm sure there are plenty here reading this that will agree.

As far as sleaze lawyers - they usually get good payouts since they are friends with sleaze judges & DAs. Money under the table.

Having watched this video 1000x and been involved in multiple OIS’s - this was a tragic accident that could not be replicated (even if you tried 1M times). Are there training issues - yes. Was she flagging him up the stairs - yes. Are there issues with the entry - yes. But both these officers were doing their jobs and in doing their job - tragedy struck. There’s nothing nefarious. There’s nothing left for the parents to see - they’ve seen it all. If you dissect his actions, you must dissect her actions. Had she tripped going up the stairs - he would have caught one in the back of the head. She’ll receive her honors and all the benefits that come with those honors but trying to destroy HIM does not bring HER back.

Years ago I worked in 018. We had a disturbance call at the Excalibur nightclub. Doorguys wouldn't let in a group of young guys since one was too drunk and got mouthy with them. When we got there his buddies were trying to take him home but he was just sitting on the curb crying. His buds explained they were all police kids, the one crying had a dad that had been killed working off duty a few years earlier. The family had to fight the city to make it a line of duty death and finally won. This set the precedent that makes off duty death while performing an act of a police action a line of duty death. He finally went home with his buds. The poor kid was a mess. He lost his dad. Someone that took him to his baseball games. Gave him advice. Things money won't replace. I'm hoping he got through the trauma. The financial payout from on duty death is pretty good, but I'm sure no one would trade a parent for money. Rivera's little girl is going to get any money placed in a trust until she is of legal age. She should. She deserves it. She'll have a good start in life. When all is said and done and she is all grown up her daughter would rather have her Mom back. The city routinely pays out millions to the people of idiots acting like asses while people on this forum piss and moan about a members child getting a start in life that her Mom isn't here to give her. This is going to be settled out of court since the city doesn't want it's dirty laundry aired in public.
