Rivera Family Not Happy
An attorney for the family of Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera, who was fatally shot by her partner, [...], said Wednesday that [...] should have never been a police officer, given a serious complaint made against him during his probationary period, and the death of Rivera “should have never happened.”
The lawyer, Antonio Romanucci, at a news conference on Wednesday called for an independent investigation of the shooting, saying the Chicago Police Department narrative “does not pass the smell test” and asked the department to publicly release [...]’s full disciplinary record as well as police body cam footage from that night that left the family with more questions than answers. “We have many questions that need to be answered. And we don’t yet trust the narrative that officer Rivera was shot and killed by her partner during a pursuit of suspects who never fired a shot,” he said.
Romanucci wrote Chicago Police Department Supt. Larry Snelling a letter on Friday, requesting he ask the Illinois State Police to conduct an independent criminal investigation into the shooting and that he release video, audio and other evidence of the shooting.
Illinois State Police investigating would be step in the right direction. We trust them a lot farther than we would COPA.
We can't really agree with the release of video, audio and evidence at this time however. There is still the potential for this to all end up in front of a judge and jury, and the Rules of Evidence cannot be compromised until such time as that result is ruled out.
In the meantime, it's probably safe to assume that no one is seriously looking at our suggestions the other day regarding background checks, hiring practices and training. No one has the political will for everything that would be exposed.

Have no fear.
COPA will do a crack job of an investigation.
The CPD’s IAD/BIA just covers things up and protects the city from lawsuits. Most will never know but IAD don’t try to get to the truth and their investigations are predetermined when it is against management and officers.
I originally felt sorry for all Involved.
My feelings have changed,.
Let State Police investigate.
Saw an interesting plate, FCOPA.
We should have a contest to spot the FCOPA plate.
Love to see ir.
So much for the department being transparent. I can’t wait to retire. Bad bosses and bad policy.
12 shot 333 Chicago ave
Charge the shooter with voluntary manslauter at the very least
They’re right. If a citizen shot her they’d charge the citizen. But because it’s a copper it’s different and he’s going to be taken care of. That’s not right. SB who shot two coppers with one bullet is in a nice cushy inside job at headquarters. I don’t get it, never did, never will why some people are taken care of when they should not even be employed as peace officers.
Is Romanicci still giving campaign contributions to Conehead? Is Conehead still collecting free expensive gifts on behalf of the citizens of Chicago? I need access to the gift closet, I need a new Gucci briefcases.

Can we please ask that all the cucks who say things like “leave him alone” and “he’s dealing with enough already” please stfu.
If he had any decency he would have resigned already.
The circumstances are as follows: he pointed his gun at his partner and pulled the trigger. Negligently. End of story.
What does the city plan to do?
I’m sure he is on administrative leave, and will hit the psych roll in short order.
But does he get (rightfully) stripped?
Does the department lightly punish him in an effort to avoid liability?
Do they ask him to ride in a squad car with someone else further down the road?
Is his “punishment” being hidden at ERPS for the next 20 years to ride into a pension?
The guy has no business on the job, I wish the department would do the right thing and hold him accountable.
Romanucci, a shitball laser, has a lot of nerve speaking of who can pass the smell test. Asshat.
City will settle and the family will get a nice check. They’d rather settle up that way then to accept any responsibility within the city or the department for the failures in hiring and training. If the gun flashing incident is true, dude should have been fired long ago.
Chief Ursitti should’ve gotten the facts before the Superintendent opened his big month and spewed wrong information. The Supe’s press conference statement made the tragedy appear to be a cover-up. This is the result of having incompetent DEI bosses. Sit in it Supe.
How did Romanowski get the bottom feeding job? Did the family find him in the phone book? Did he “hustle” the family with promises of great wealth? Isn’t there an ethics standard according to the bar association? That needs investigating.
Wow ! Just another “let’s go after the police “ narrative truly sad and embarrassing. Deep pockets always seen to be the narrative when the city is involved. Truly embarrassing coming from one of our own.
Sue, sue, sue. The city would probably be wise to settle this one out of court. I do enjoy the coordination with the press however on the earlier reports of the officers disciplinary record though. They're working it just like any police shooting, hint at fault first....
“For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.”
~ Luke 8:17 NIV
Hiring the scummiest bottom feeding lawyer is not a good look for them.
investigation will reveal there are many more like him that were hired thanks to dei, inclusion, lower standards, reflections of the communities served, etc,, etc,, etc,,,, you know,,, all those warm and fuzzy sounding liberal terms
He better find a good lawyer
Oh please!!! They watched the video. No one is hiding anything. Enough…. Just sue and get your money. We all know what this is about now. $$$$$$
Yeah. Wait for that.
Crazy how some people think he should be okay because his bullet hit a fellow copper. If that bullet hit a citizen he'd be in jail 100%.
He’s a tick tock clown.
Dei hires are so qualified. Just start with Mayor Johnson and Larry Snelling and their staff. COPA will have Laser like like focus on it's phony 🔬 racist shit show.
State Police investigations are hit and miss.
If you get some guys with experience and no other motives, you'll get a good investigation.
If you get guys looking for the next bump, they'll do whatever their boss tells them to get promoted.
Remember this is the same bunch that let George Ryan and Blago slip through their fingers.
The State Police have a unit that investigates all suburban police shootings. They should so the same in Chicago but will have to expand the unit quite a bit!
Poor weapons handling and control mixed with overwhelming psychological experience of actually seeing dude with a rifle? Idk but damn- i can't imagine an officer pulling out his gum and drawing on me and then shooting me and not bad guy... unless he knew bad guy and there's way more that I and general public don't know
I agree. He is a softball who should have been fired during probation. Look what it takes for the spotlight to be on him now. Will probably go for a disability pension.
This really upsets me. Ya know, it kinda triggers my inner feelings of rage. I think I’ll call Romanucci and see of there is anyone I can sue. I’se be scared cause I know lotsa coppers like this guy. No business being on the job. So, cause I gots ta work wit dem I be looking to get paid. Hit me up if you want in. Just look me up under Talley, Yolanda.
THe question is does this guy have a rabbi who got him on the job? If he does, that person is figuring how to cover their tracks now.
Transparency? The family has seen the BWC. It was a tragic accident and this scumbag lawyer is looking for money when there is none to be found.
Romanucci drumming up publicity and business.
COPA? iAD? Nope IRT does the investigation in direct violation of the law. Police shootings are supposed to be done by an outside agency.
That's because those POs never sued that idiot.
One was shot through the hand, then the same bullet struck another PO in the upper back.
They were partners. Did they choose to work together or were they thrown together?
Apparently, they were not allowed to see the whole thing from start to finish.
there was a deal in the works years ago...........CPD takes back the e-ways in the city limits and the state police take over all officer involved shooting investigations for CPD..........alot of finger pointing went on about why it didnt happen but copa , and staffing issues in the state police investigations unit were the 2 biggest reasons it fell through
You mean chatgpt news affairs team?
IRT does not conduct the use of force investigation. So, no, not a violation of the law.
IRT does not conduct the investigation. COPA is the lead per the MCC.
ISP has already turned down Chicago numerous times when there is an Officer involved shootings. They want to leave it to the mush’s in IRT.
I'm sure it would upset you if Officer Rivera was your child, sister, parent, friend.
There's always money to be found.
Just look at how many people have been sandbagged by Emett Welch.
Anybody remember Patrina Wines when she was the commander of 15 when she shot her foot and grazed a sergeant? Department totally covered that up and got away with it.
Agreed. That attorney made me sick when I saw the video. Taking a tragedy and turning it into something nuts just to get paid more sick as fuck .
It should be about $$$$
The family should be getting her salary paid out for another 20 years don't you think?
im glad the family hired him you may hate him think he is a bottom feeder but he is a very good /smart lawyer i hope he sues the hell out of chicago/cpd n my prayers are eith officer rivera daughter
This department is truly a laughing stock in the world of law enforcement.
totally hartbroken for officer rivera n her family my question why was she working in 006 ( a totally sh-t) district ? she lived in portage park ( 016) too bad she could not have transfeered to 016, 017 019 or 025 . she would still be alive today.
ISP investigates criminal investigations, not administrative findings, ( outside of state employees, )so there investigation would only focus if the shooting was criminal , so it would be a waste of time.
Emmet Welch pictured at the far right.
Was part of the Daley nephew one punch homicide debacle.

That’s what lawyers do. That’s their job. Law school 101: get the money. 1/3 or better 1/4, plus expenses. Lots of expenses.
State Police should be out on the expressways where they belong.
You are missing the point here. It’s the disgusting video that their attorney did. We know she has a daughter..: it’s just in extremely poor taste what he did and the narrative he is trying to spin
If the Dept covered it up so we’ll, how did a rat like you find out about it?
Sad situation. Looking at her picture on the slumtimes: She had the look/face of somebody that acutally joined CPD since she wanted to make a difference. And yeah - a persons face can tell a story. I've been around long enough to be able to make a pretty good call based just on the 'look' I get from people. I'm sure there are plenty here reading this that will agree.
As far as sleaze lawyers - they usually get good payouts since they are friends with sleaze judges & DAs. Money under the table.
He needs to be fired and charged. The fact that neither has happened is a reminder that the Dept and SAO think our lives are garbage. He needs to be held accountable regardless if he made an oopsie. You don't get to kill one of us and just continue on with no consequences.
Embarrassing because the family wants answers and accountability? So because one of our own killed her it's okay?
Did you watch the video? How do you know nobody is hiding anything? If you are the police, you live in and work for the most corrupt city in the nation and you have the naivety to leave such a comment.
And don't think for one second that the city won't have their cronies in the state police be the investigators
Your question is irrelevant and useless
I wouldn’t trust anything BIA is doing.
Exactly DEI bosses.
If you’re the police than you’re a fuc&ing ifiot. IRT does not conduct the investigation of a fatal police shooting.
You are correct
Having watched this video 1000x and been involved in multiple OIS’s - this was a tragic accident that could not be replicated (even if you tried 1M times). Are there training issues - yes. Was she flagging him up the stairs - yes. Are there issues with the entry - yes. But both these officers were doing their jobs and in doing their job - tragedy struck. There’s nothing nefarious. There’s nothing left for the parents to see - they’ve seen it all. If you dissect his actions, you must dissect her actions. Had she tripped going up the stairs - he would have caught one in the back of the head. She’ll receive her honors and all the benefits that come with those honors but trying to destroy HIM does not bring HER back.
You are fool.
They chose to work together and have been working together prior to this event.
How is the department not transparent? You know nothing but espouse a theory from a charlatan attorney.
…said the wanna-be-lawyer sitting on mommy’s couch watching MTV at 40.
Accident or not, there’s a little girl without a mother. There’s coppers going to jail for unserious crap, but he should get a pass?? Someone is DEAD and someone should be held accountable for that.
This entire string are cubicle warriors who sit behind desks and are at the end of their miserable careers while getting a head start at the end of their miserable lives.
Do you eat paint-chips in your mom’s basement because you all kinda dumb bro.
The states worst investigator is light years better than cpds best.
I'm certain the family wants their loved one back as no amount of money will ever make their pain go away. The family has every right to be angry and get answers to any questions they have. If this happened to your loved one, you'd be angry too. Their lives will never be the same, even if they get millions.
I seriously doubt that the ISP will touch this case without the consent of the CPD. The family might hire a competent Private detective, but he will have an uphill job. A civil law suit with discovery might find something, but this seems like a tragic acc ident.
Dancing clown on tik tok. Lesson children don’t make it easy for the lamestream media to have your likeness to share nationwide.
I'm glad too. You need a ruthless lawyer to go against the corrupt and dirty chicago machine
But it just might prevent a future clown in the making... and just maybe it will change the amount and type of training give. If anything it will force this clown (based on his tictok vidoes) give his resignation and disappear from sight or sound.
For you to try to play the well she did it to, she just wad fortune not to have her "gun go off".
A gun just doesn't go off.. you have to pull the trigger.. which if anything means he was running around with his finger on the trigger. Not sure how or where you were training but cpd isnt training like that.
Carelessness doesn't ok an accident, you still mess up and should be helg accountable... which just maybe if he had been in the past for his shenanigans, this tragedy could have been avoided.
You do not know when to use an apostrophe. Who is the mush?
Half of them are these days. I deleted TikTok but when I had it I’d scroll around killing time it was always either the selfie TikTok I’m so cute girls in their beat car trying to look seductively into their phones or the wannabee playboy cops who think their really buff with the backwards hat on also trying to look seductively into their phones.
How did you get to see the video hundreds of times?
Patrina was shot by a round fired from someone else. Her weapon was holstered. Incident was on camera
Nope
Working in a north side district doesn't guarantee your safety. Shit can pop off anywhere at anytime. Stay vigilant at all times.
for murders? doubt it pal
Years ago I worked in 018. We had a disturbance call at the Excalibur nightclub. Doorguys wouldn't let in a group of young guys since one was too drunk and got mouthy with them. When we got there his buddies were trying to take him home but he was just sitting on the curb crying. His buds explained they were all police kids, the one crying had a dad that had been killed working off duty a few years earlier. The family had to fight the city to make it a line of duty death and finally won. This set the precedent that makes off duty death while performing an act of a police action a line of duty death. He finally went home with his buds. The poor kid was a mess. He lost his dad. Someone that took him to his baseball games. Gave him advice. Things money won't replace. I'm hoping he got through the trauma. The financial payout from on duty death is pretty good, but I'm sure no one would trade a parent for money. Rivera's little girl is going to get any money placed in a trust until she is of legal age. She should. She deserves it. She'll have a good start in life. When all is said and done and she is all grown up her daughter would rather have her Mom back. The city routinely pays out millions to the people of idiots acting like asses while people on this forum piss and moan about a members child getting a start in life that her Mom isn't here to give her. This is going to be settled out of court since the city doesn't want it's dirty laundry aired in public.
He needs to be charged. The change at its finest
“ Having watched this video 1000x …’. Who are you that saw the video ???
Who are you to lecture us on the contents of the video?
Transparency is the word of the day. I want to see it and make my own conclusions.
Really with what? Idiot
No, that's not what happened.
How about DICKMAN and his sandbagging tactics, formerly from IAD. Give a statement at headquarters, and he types his own wording, not your statement. Then when you mention that you did not say that, he makes a scene, as if you’re the problem. Fuck him! Fucking sandbagger and liar. In the end, it was all exonerated. He wanted to give time.
Lots of people lose a parent without sitting on a curb, drunk and crying like a two-year-old. I too remember the case of “Cop Killer Tasch”.
