The Failed Ambush
Chicago’s police oversight agency has released dramatic surveillance footage and case materials from last month’s armed ambush of an off-duty Chicago police officer in Back of the Yards. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability made the release Thursday, and while its statement did not include any new details, the video left little doubt about what happened: It was a cold-blooded murder attempt.
According to officials, the attack occurred at 6:13 a.m. on August 3, as a 30-year-old officer backed her black SUV into her garage in the 4800 block of South Bishop Street. As she finished parking, a white sedan rolled down the alley. The sedan’s front passenger door cracked open while the vehicle was still rolling past the garage, as if someone inside was eager to spring out. Once the vehicle pulled to a stop, three masked men poured out, ran toward the officer’s garage, and opened fire.
Another camera angle captured the officer lowering her garage door during the barrage, which may have hastened the attackers’ retreat. CPD said the crew fled north in the alley with a fourth person driving the getaway car.
There was no robbery attempt - it was a murder attempt.
The rest of the videos are over at the COPA site.
No one has been arrested or charged.
UPDATE: A bunch of people point out what appears to be a puff of smoke in the right hand side of the video, possibly the first shot by the Officer. It very well might be.
In that case, this is exceptional situational awareness by the Officer that she was about to be the victim of a robbery and a perfect example of, "You don't have to wait to be shot at before taking action."
More disturbing is how quickly the carjackers switched from robbery to blazing away with multiple weapons.

No. Looked like a carjacking attempt. Also looks like off duty shot first and then these guys, after hearing the shots all get out and shoot. Watch the video again.
Thank God, not another funeral....
Cuck F0PA.

Come say hello!
(Cowardly Pricks)
Camera team cannot follow the car? Was it an attempt to steal the Jeep. If you own a Cherokee, Durango, Charger, or Challenger you best be on your toes and gas station ready.
Always be aware ...scan your 360.....
She was either targeted for her job or the crazy dark tinted Jeep. She fired a shot or shots and they went to the 30 round switches. Glad she is ok. If you own Dodge and appreciate life jr officer’s and anyone else, sell it for an Explorer ST.
Does the officer fire first? As the offenders were coming up, there's a blast of smoke in the center of the alley as if the officer was firing towards the offenders. Rightfully so. Maybe that's why they started shooting instead of robbing.
That is scary!!! Stay alert
Those demons were about to kill. But what is also evident is the off duty was aware of what is happening. If you pay close attention to the video you will see a gunshot round strike the alley pavement causing a spark and smoke just as the thugs are exiting the white stolen vehicle. It works and the loud report and split second startles the thugs but it does not stop the attempt. If you’re going to pull the weapon be ready to use it! Because this shows the were ready to finish the job they started…..
First round fired by off duty? Watch the round hit alley and smoke come from inside of garage? And it did not stop the attack of the three gunmen! They wanted the SUV.
liberals news reports another white car committed an attempt murder and car jacking
I was curious about why COPA is involved but from a prior post it seems she was able to get a shot or two off
This is not a car jacking or some kind of target thing in my opinion. Nothing more than the Saints coming over and shooting at what they thought were some Raza's.
That's exactly what I noticed. You see the bullets hitting the cement which did not come from the shooters
I hate to say this, but this officer will probably get in trouble for shooting without justification. When she fired there was no threat until there was. Don't get me wrong, I wish she would have gunned down all 4 pieces of shiet But we know how this corrupt CPD department is, they will sand bag her. I hope she says thatb she was able to see the long guns as they drove by.
Situational awareness is the key.
I’m glad she’s okay. Luckily for her she was able to get a shot off. Had she not fired a round, they would’ve rushed into the garage with her.
Young officer, the area is changing , but not very fast. You were able to get a beautiful home with the bells and whistles for a low price, however, it’s not worth living on 47th & Bishop, in (Moe Town.) The area is still infested with shitheads.
It was a carjacking interrupted by the garage door starting to close. They shot out of reflexive frustration at not getting their way.
La Raza vs Saints has been going on for years. Look at the ODPO's neighbors. Ranking Raza and his BM that was a Saint in the past and is now a Raza. Any slightly awake 009 officer can tell you that was a Saint mission to kill a Raza. Not a car jacking. No way they knew she was a PO. Look where they found the car. Call Johnson and ask him.
Sad commentary on life in Chicago when you have to have 24 hour camera surveillance from the alley in back to the front sidewalk. Good job, officer! Stayed alert and stayed alive!
The fiancee’s 911 call was even weirder. He says in a fake breathy, high pitched voice that an off duty PO has been shot and tries to make the case that he ran into the garage after hearing shots (not possible) then won’t answer if she’s actually shot but won’t go back into the garage to check on her? Calltakers keep asking him if she’s shot and he won’t answer. He finally states it doesn’t look like it and call taker says, then why did you say that? And why was she telling you to get out of the garage??? The fiancee then drops his fake breathy voice for a moment and says, “maybe there’s people in the alley?” Both CPD/CFD call takers were actually speechless at the bizarreness of the call. Was this a road rage incident? Was the fiancee in the garage with her? Why did she try to cover up that she shot first? Many questions.
That puff was chalk dust.
I prematurely farted in anticipation of a triple chalking.
My bad.
Chalkie
Poopa copa trolls are attempting to plant a stink weed of lawyerly odor.
Faking a sherlockian sincerity, pukings of they was only fixing to carjack, yet were provoked into an exchange of gunfires by the trigger happy police, trying the set the table of deceptions with their cracked, filthy dinnerware.
What? Ford’ grandson, on behalf of Ford co and the Ford Foundation, gave 8 million to “defund the police”. Why the hell would anyone support that company?
Clearly a car jacking. She’s driving around in a hoodrat vehicle with illegal tints, the favorite of these ghetto rats. She’s lucky Mr inspector didn’t spar her for the tints when she gave her statement to copa.
about 20 years ago I threw out that orange door someone across the alley is using as a rear gate,,, glad to know I recycled it
Im surprised COPA didn't try to strip the officer from failure to de-escalate.
And Kimm Foxx is mad she can't prosecute the officer.
If Obama had sons, they would look like those people or folks
Any time a PO fires a weapon, COPA, by City Ordinances, does an investigation.,
hey f-ckyou im glad she is all right n yes she is entitled to drive what she wants im glad she is ok
officer do your self a favor leave the hood n move to edison park
You sir, are correct. Some folks on here clearly don't have a clue that these ahole bangers go around looking for "opps."
47th/Bishop is NOT Moe Town. Do you even know who the Moe's are? They're Black Stones. There are exactly ZERO Stones over there, just La Razas.
That alley is disgusting…isn’t there anyone working for streets and sanitation no more or are they all teaching
A deluge of asshatted nose pickers craving a pittance of pompous snob satisfactions from assguessings' splurted from every orifice.
Identify, apprehend and interrogate the offenders and hear just how they'll be mimicking the commenters so defining themselves.
Glad the Officer is alright, shame the oxygen thief's are still around.
Hahaha. 47/Bishop is a Spanish ghetto. Nothing but La Raza’s from Racine to Ashland 47th to 51st. Saints on the other side of Ashland from 48th to 43rd Ashland to Damen. Wow. You must be a time keeper who has never seen the streets before.
When the neighbors leave the neighborhood all you have left is THE HOOD.
Join I C E, they will let you do real policing, and get the bad guys.
The weavers of webs of deceptions use the tanglings of same to deceive.
Cloakings of insincere sincerity cannot conceal their duplcitous ways, fake seeking the truth being common.
This lengthy, loaded with innuendos presented as clues, comment reeks of this perfidity.
Has this commenter exhausted itself of it's ample supply of it's butt boogers to pick?
Lucky to be alive 3 against 1 not good odds
