Budget Showdown

So the City Council called Conehead's hand and passed a budget without his head tax:

  • A renegade coalition of conservative and moderate City Council members opposed to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s corporate head tax has decisively passed a budget balanced without the policy detested by Chicago’s business community.

The Council voted 30-18 Saturday to pass the spending portion of an opposition plan that Johnson’s office has said could require midyear cuts because of faulty revenue projections.

The defiant passage left the question of whether Johnson will become the first Chicago mayor in three decades — since the city’s first Black mayor, Harold Washington — to veto an annual budget ordinance.

Johnson didn’t signal his next move on a budget he’s called “morally bankrupt.”

“I do think that this proposal is ill-conceived. It sends the wrong message to struggling Chicagoans, and it will not produce the lofty revenue goals that are assumed in this budget,” Johnson told the deeply divided chamber during a rare weekend meeting.

There hasn't been a Chicago budget, let alone a County or State budget in Illinois (or any of a dozen other states we could name) that didn't base spending on "lofty revenue goals" that never came to fruition. That's why certain blue state / blue city shitholes are carrying tens (and hundreds) of billions of dollars in unsustainable bond debt.

We notice that pretty much all of the budget proposals don't say a word about cutting expenditures, merely raising taxes and fees or instituting new ones instead of closing underutilized schools and slashing those $75 million aldermanic "menus" that are conduits for all sorts of graft and corruption.

Only in Chicago can they raise property taxes 100 percent, pass a budget that doesn't tax corporations unfairly, and say nothing about expenditure reduction and they still call that a win.
Pritzker has signed 48 bills raising taxes in his two terms in office and grown the Illinois budget by 16 Billion dollars. Boeing, Caterpillar, and Citadel all have left Chicago and Illinois in the last 5 years. How much worse does it have to get?

The trouble with the progressive "tax the rich" is that the truly rich shelter their money and wealth. The can leave the state, use off shore bank accounts or park it in long term assets like art work, property, things that are hard to value and take by the tax man. Corporate tax? Head tax? What do the progressive think corporations will do? Cut their profits to make them happy? Their job is to make the shareholders happy. They will move or just pass the increased taxes to the consumer.

But yet there’s a million dollar + detective test on deck when they’re not even through a few hundred on the current list? Haha, city must’ve been tied up in a contract with the testing company that was inescapable, typical.

Thats all DemoRats know how to do...send, spend, spend and raise taxes! Anyone with common sense and has some type of economic education would take a hard look and make some cuts on unnecessary spending, but NO, DemoRats will NEVER do that! Plus Conehead will NOT veto it cause if he does the City goes without an approved budget and faces a shutdown..he knows hell get the blame for that but will twist it and blame the AlderCreatures.

Fools, just think of the head tax cash they can rake in from the more than 40,000 (City's Labor Division, 2025) city employees.
And it may encourage the city to cut a few thousand connected slugs?
What about the no-shows? ...Well Little Tommy, that could start some big trouble...

Matt O'Shea said city unions need to get their workers to accept pay and benefit cuts. F**k you, Matty. You first. It's been said hundreds of times, but I'll repeat it. The quickest ways to save money are- 1: Cut aldermen from 50 to 25 (see New York city alders vs population). 2: Eliminate every position that starts with assistant, deputy or commander. All those jobs could be done at LT or Capt pay.

Wasn't surprised that the city is engaged in race based collection of fines and fees, but surprised at how blatant their defense of it is. That white alderman stood by and said nothing about their wards being targeted makes it worse. Hopefully the DOJ gets involved now and brings this racist mayor and his "progressive caucus" to heel

Majority of our taxes and fees go to the salaries, benefits and pensions of the municipal employees. Infrastructure and public service are last on the list, if there's anything left over! Just look at Chicago's 100 year old sewer system.

Is anybody in our city government even talking about reducing spending? Why is the answer always, "we have to raise your taxes?" Isn't it kind of arrogant, to expect more revenue than to hold the line on unchecked spending?
Chicagoans are pawns and chumps. Their politicians are bought and paid for, and they are too stupid to realize that.

So, you, being the brilliant thinker that you are, focus on the one thing, alderman salaries, that they want you to focus on.

And not the one thing they fear being focused upon.

MORE aldermanic council members, representing HALF as many ward residents, via TWICE as many wards, yep, 100, being paid each at HALF the current salary, equals what?

C'mon, genius, you know this one.

Zero Sum Gain in cost, Doubled the number of 'renegade' potential city council members, each answering to HALF of their respective ward residents.

The opposite effect of your shitbrained call to reduce said potential 'rebellious' city council members by HALF, the wet dream of the mayor's cabal of sheet stainers.

I don’t think there’s any “conservative or moderate” aldermen. Maybe Napalitano? What is happening here is a fight for survival. Aldermen are realizing how inept incompetent and dangerously dumb the mayor is. They realize Chicago will die if the mayor is allowed to kill it. The idiot mayor is controlled by the deadly CTU and the results of that are apparent. The mayor is hostile to business and taxpayers. And they are fleeing. I’m one of them

you don't need a captain assigned as an inspector, that's for sure. Superintendent Snelling should end that now. Inspector was always selected from the rank of Lt. I always thought that an Inspector should be selected from the rank of a Sergeant with 5 years in rank from district patrol. Limit assignment to no longer longer than 5 years. Then allow them to select a unit of assignment .

First, define union(s).

Then, define public sector union(s).

Then, define private contractors(s) engaged in public sector work(s) employing labor unionized workers.

Try not to blow a brain fuse.
