NYC Bad Idea Begins
All bad ideas seem to start in New York - how long until Conehead and the CPD brass attempt to steal this one?
The safety dance begins.
A progressive City Council member pushed a bill on Thursday to create a controversial “Department of Community Safety” pushed by Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani that would reshape the way the city responds to 911 calls.
Brooklyn Democrat Lincoln Restler introduced the legislation as he claimed a majority of his council comrades support the new department intended to send civilian mental health professionals instead of cops to respond to many emergency calls.
“We have a long way to go to negotiate the exact responsibilities of the agency, the staffing that will be required, the budget that will be necessitated, and we’ll work through those issues with the administration in the weeks and months to come,” he said.
It might be coming sooner than you think.
CPD has plans to hire between three-hundred and three-hundred-fifty Officers in 2026.
Retirements are conservatively estimated at one-thousand for the year, meaning manpower is going to plummet another six-hundred-fifty.

Officers in cushy spots do not retire until they are literally forced out. It’s only patrol who count the days, so we know where the 1000 will be coming from. Supervisors will be ordered to squeeze even more out of the remaining non clouted already over worked beat officers. More chiefs than Indians.
I can’t wait for this. However I think they will save this until after the city elections in 2027. The Democrat’s haven’t slowed down destroying the city. Just a slow drag with it.
the bill for this was already passed in Illinois. It’s called CESSA. I am a 911 dispatcher in the suburbs and we’ve been using this method for months. We transfer 911 mental health issues and suicidal people to 988. We do not send officers - we don’t even tell the officers we received the call. On August 25, 2021, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law the Community Emergency Services and Supports Act (CESSA), also known as the Stephon Watts Act. This new legislation requires emergency response operators such as those at 911 centers, to refer calls seeking mental and behavioral health support to a new service that can dispatch a team of mental health professionals instead of police. This marks a significant change in policy.
This solves all the problems in this AND the previous post. Hire social workers to ride the trains and issue them fire extinguishers. New York can share this idea too!
Don't we have a van that is supposed to be doing this? Anyone see it lately? Is it still be funded? Was it cut from the budget? The only time I ever ran across it was after its implementation and I heard someone ask for it over the air and the dispatcher stated, "We aren't supposed to ask or request it. It's up to them if they will respond and/or they choose the calls they wish to respond."
You should get your head checked if you legitimately think this is bad
The goal is to hire more patronage employees and NGOs who will beholden to the Mayor by getting out the vote and kickbacks from the NGOs who donate to the Mayor. What will happen will be the "social workers" will arrive to handle the job and in most cases they fear the "client" and end up calling the police to
protect them. The police will get there, and the situation will be out of control & the police will take command of the situation and will know what to do. The social workers will protest and beef on the police. Then the police will have to defend their actions. They tried doing this in Chicago Districts in the late 70s/late 80s. It went over like a lead ballon, and was disbanded.
What a joke , I hope every kid waiting to get on tells the city fuck off , and move to FL or a suburban dept
The safety dance? That was a good song back in the early 80s.
Excusing behavior leads to more crime. Its not their fault they scream. Uh, yes it is.
well, of course we need less officers,,, after all the mayor, governor and superintendent all said crime is down,,, so when those 3 say it, you know it must be true
I wonder, is the city going to pay these mental health professionals, more or less than a police officer???
It is basically defunding the police thru attrition. How many of that 300-350 will end up with a star and a bar on their left sleeve.
Again with the mental health professionals? Doctors on house calls?
Kind of a good idea to begin with. Push the cops away from mental health calls. They would love to be rid of all cops. This unarmed community safety will evolve and grow while copper #'s shrink. Eventually, violence will become common place with this safety team and they will want to arm some of them for "support" purposes. This will grow, and soon all will be armed and back to being trained as police sans the FOP. The new police force is now formed. It's not as crazy as you think.
The graft will be glorious! imagine all the new consulting contracts needed to spin up a new department. All the management slots to fill by phone call. All the hiring of nieces with useless degrees. A new computer system.
Psst. Hey Boss. There are people in 376 who actually WANT to return to the streets. Maybe you were too quick to try to line them in front of the firing squad to appease whoever...
A smarter person may review some cases and perhaps defer some suspensions... but what do I know? I'm a nobody who can actually use logic to come up with solutions to unique problems.
Spring 2024 the 9161 rank was 8400-8500.
I wouldn't be surprised it its near 8000 now.
To understand the amount of decrease in 2020-21 the 9161 rank was around 9500.
Leaving Jan 15 of 2026 at fifty years old. 70% is plenty and have insurance from the wife. This job is a dumpster fire, I want nothing to do with LE ever again.
It’s already here. You haven’t seen it because you can’t see over the high counter at the district desk. Those massive vans that are supposed to be stocked with an emt, a mental professional and some other jerkoff that choose to go on their own select calls have been around for about a year or more.
Ex convict and rapper Mysonne Linen ( yes that's a real name) is now assisting/ advising that idiot in running New Yorks police department. You can't make this shit up. The shit just keeps better and better. New York, just like Chicago is TRULY FUCKED...
I feel the same way. I’ll be 50 soon and do not want anything to do with LE ever again. The job really really sucks now. I’m going to try to get off this job and junk on wife’s insurance. Can’t take this anymore.
What happened to those baby blue ambulances the city had. The went from the CFD to the board of health cuz they could not get any CFD medics to sign up.
I don’t think I ever saw one on a run.
And nothing says “hey I’m nuts” like having one of those big blue neon signs of a vehicle in front of your house.
Above said it all; they pick and chose which job they respond to . Well when the incident turns bad they should call for additional mental health workers, not the police. Oh yes, lets put cameras on those mental health workers as well, turn cameras on at the point they were requested . Xmas eve, 30 below at 1 am now go handle your job !!!! First bad beating will end that crisis team.
A lightning bolt just hit me!
How about working in call back is like time considered served on EM?
Coppers mea culpa and come back to work
Hahaha good one
Keep superintendent position , all other command assignments should be from ranks of Patrolman,Detectives, sergeants and lieutenants.
Give them a take home car,pay them overtime ,plus give them a $25,000 to $50,000 bonus every year that isn't pensionable. Base bonus on performance and seniority.
Save our pension
Most social/mental health workers are cuckoo
Hand out new hire applications for the department at 26th & Cal, warming and homeless shelters. Problem solved.
“Mental health professionals” to answer calls? What’s next dental hygienist. They can carry those picks they clean your teeth with
Really??
These experiments with stupidity has already gone badly.
For those of you who do not know, on 05 June 2025 citizens in Evanston call 911 to report that there was a mentally ill person outside a Taco Bell.
Evanston being the progressive nincompoops that they are began a program called the CARE team who are not social workers or mental health workers because most of them are smart enough to realize that they would be killed. Instead, they are young people of color who have associates sociology maybe a couple psychology classes that they send out to deal with quality of life issues, including complaints of mental ill people. So Evanston has decided to take that away from Police response and instead send this CARE team.
They go out to the Taco Bell and find a mentally ill person in crisis and notify their dispatcher they need this mentally ill person sent to the hospital for evaluation. Evanston fire department ambulance responds. No police are requested to pat the mental ill person down for weapons. Because “Police BAD. Police kill mentally ill people”.
The Evanston paramedics put the mental mentally ill person into their ambulance with his unchecked belongings and take him to Evanston hospital.
Mentally ill person starts losing his shit in the triage room, and the nurse calls for the hospital unarmed hospital security. Mentally old person lunges for his backpack and sticks his hand into it grabbing a semi auto and firing during the struggle, hitting the unarmed security in the arm and leg. Causing dozens of people to flee the emergency room and mass panic. A second unarmed security person comes in and between the injured officer and that officer who is bitten severely, they get the mentally ill person under control.
Evanston Police respond and find not just the one weapon, but an additional handgun in the backpack.
The the city of Evanston has already doubled down and said they did the right thing and that they are not going to violate mentally ill people‘s rights by searching their belongings.
This actually happened. I hope to God this unarmed hospital security person has gotten a hold of some serious lawyers. Because she’s fittin to get paid.

Not true at all, get over yourself.
Yes it is.
I will hit 20 years in the coming months…. It can not come soon enough. It’s sad to say that it was a giant waste of my life. Only good news is I got paid ok.
NYPD is 20-and-out, and they collect immediately regardless of age.
Why can’t we steal THAT idea?
Instead we steal all of their worst ideas.
RE: 19 Dec at 0730: You are Correct!
The ultimate goal is the establishment of a parallel para- military organization. This new quasi- police force will: (1) Report directly to the Mayor, with no oversight; (2) Composed on democrat Party loyalists and “ True Believer” ideologues, along with a few opportunists; (3) Enforce political statutory and regulatory “ Lawfare” on dis-favored groups; (4) Passively protect ( as in “ Look the other way”) actual criminals preying on the community.
They should deploy those CESSA operatives to the CTA train lines, since that’s where most of this city’s mentals live.
how soon will the first cessa be in a body bag
True. Why would they retire? They work half tours and get paid full.
Bruh!! The fact that the nutball was eating at Taco Bell should have been a redflag in itself...
The specialists will just go to the scene and request CPD with nothing gained because the specialists will tell CPD to go in first and then blame the officers when it all goes bad. Just like dispatchers do when CPD gives out calls saying fire refused let us know aat scene. Its just another job for the benefit of the company training the mental specialists and no accountability just like the violent interrupters have = useless.
Seriously Every year it’s the same old thousands are going retire. Then maybe a third retire from what was said or posted.
Awwwwwwww he fell in the Fish Bowl ! LOL
GFY. To get out of this shit ass city, one needs to retire. You sound jealous that others may have figured out a way to to make it to the finish line without being stuck in a squad car.
