The Markham Officer who found that gun in the felonious "violence interrupters" car and who was ordered by the chief to release said felon and return said gun to the owner?
The Markham cop who found a gun in the center console of a convicted murderer’s car, only to be ordered by the department’s chief to let the man go, has been fired.
Markham Police Chief Jack Genius terminated Probationary Police Officer Kayla M. Heller on December 8, the same day CWBChicago informed Genius that the outlet was preparing a news story about the October 8 incident involving Tyrone Muhammad, a convicted killer and U.S. Senate candidate who works as a violence interrupter.
State records show Heller was initially certified as a law enforcement officer on December 20, 2024, and sources familiar with her employment say she was set to complete her one-year probationary period with Markham PD this coming Saturday.
But those same state records show Markham separated Heller on December 8 as the Illinois Attorney General’s Office was pressuring the town’s police department to provide CWBChicago with video footage related to Muhammad’s traffic stop, detention, and release. CWB sought the attorney general’s intervention after Markham wrongfully refused to release any information about the October 8 incident despite two open records requests.
Granted, she was "probationary" and so has little recourse aside from a hugely expensive lawsuit, but we all know exactly what happened here.
And chief moron Genius appears to be politically untouchable as he has faced corruption charges of his own, selling badges among other things. But somehow, he landed a chief job in one of the more crooked suburbs here in Illinois.

I really want to read the internal investigation showing the reasons for her termination? But we all know under probation they do not need to have a reason? Two things are in her favor! Being a female and being on probation in that suburb shows she had no prior discipline history. And the reason the chief will bully the termination through will be something like disobedience to a direct order? Like, return that felon his illegal handgun! What a trick bag this puts that probationary officer in? And I guess no other senior officer stood up to the Chief by processing the arrest putting the probationary officer as box 2?
So who wants to join any police department while the command staff are idiots like this Chief?
Let find out about a go fund me page. And find her a great female employment attorney and file a discrimination and wrongful termination law suit?
And then see if some other suburban department wants a newly trained officer?
This chief just cost this department a case of whopass to be opened on this Department. When all he really needed to do was step back and let the officer do her job and see where the crap falls?

On a side note, the backup officer shouldn't have been so quick to want to leave her (or male officer) 10-99. That could have turned sour in a hurry. Maybe he had a hot call to head to (it IS Markham), which illustrates that these suburbs work with 3-4 officers, with no help in sight.
And this Police Chief is an attorney licensed in Illinois? But look at his history of bad conduct. Boy did Markam buy a lame horse there?

Markham has a lot of HUD and Section 8 areas. The rest of it is like Mississippi. Hillbillies abound, and run down stables with emaciated animals dot the landscape. Their city motto is "A city on the move", but it's a downward spiral.
Markham and Harvey, two democrat strongholds. Both have been ghetto scenes since the 1970's.
When Daley knocked down all the projects, most of the residents moved to the South suburbs, bringing their section 8 vouchers with. It was only a matter of time before these once thriving communities deteriorated into the shit holes they are today.
if we ever had a real federal prosecutor assigned in this area, they would have a field-day in Chicago-metro. The city alone could occupy the entire DOJ if they really wanted to dig. They don't.
What method does the police chief use while deciding who is charged and who is released. Or does that only happen when he stumbles out of the local watering hole where he holds court.

Now that she's trained, lets hope some other police department offer her a job. You have to think that she was going to leave that shit hole as soon as probation was done.

This isn't Chicago but this officer is being terminated 6 months before being eligible for a pension and the kicker is he's on kidney dialysis and on a waiting list for a kidney. He did do extra shifts during the pandemic but his department said his kidney failure is not work related. After termination he won't have medical insurance.
He needs not just a his lawyer, but an excellent one. Scummy department.

Markham has been ghetto since the 70s, its spiral started long ago and once you’ve bottomed out after 50 years you can’t really call it a spiral.
