Chicago "Lost its Mind" Financially

Some harsh words from the Washington Post:

  • The editorial board of the Washington Post called out Mayor Brandon Johnson on Monday, arguing he has mismanaged Chicago to the point the city has financially "lost its mind." The board argued that Chicago has an extensive history of using short-term economic gimmicks, and Johnson and his allies are more of the same.

The board said that Chicago’s net operating budget increased almost 40 percent between 2019 and 2025, which, according to Grant McClintock of the Civic Federation, was "subsidized in large part by temporary federal pandemic funding that kept the City financially afloat."

[...] "The pandemic is over, but many of the programs and personnel positions established during that time remain, and without the benefit of the federal funding that previously supported them," he said.

Good thing the Post didn't get hold of Conehead's Northwestern Memorial Hospital Mental In-Patient Frequent Flyer card. It wouldn't just be Chicago that would be accused of losing its mind.

Conehead is hanging his imaginary budget numbers on the Civic Federation, which has claimed there's no hard evidence a head-tax would drive businesses out. This is the same Civic Federation that "....told the city last year not to pay the full pension amount...." so you'll excuse us if we don't really trust their judgement.

Budget talks have stalled again, raising the possibility of some sort of a shutdown where the City will pay everyone in I.O.U.s or something.

For a second when I was reading the WP article that unnecessary heads of unnecessary positions might be axed, coupled with axing the unnecessary programs to save money. Then no mention of it actually happening. 😭

This is from my guy at the FOP:
Good evening everyone. I don't t know if any of you all have been watching the news lately, but we are about 16 days away from a City government shutdown! The Mayor and City council still haven't agreed on a budget for 2026. I'm not trying to alarm anybody, but there is a good possibility that our December 22nd paychecks may be the last paychecks we get for a while! So, I would advise everyone to plan accordingly and not make any big purchases! A government shutdown has never happened in the City of Chicago, but with Mayor Brandon Johnson, anything is possible! Nobody thinks that something like this can happen until it actually does! So, I'll just say this one last thing:
Hope for the best, but plan for the worst! Stay warm and stay safe everyone!

What's with this huge lie and rumor someone started spreading?

Don’t trust the American Pravda, the Washington Post, to suggest any way out of Chicago’s dire financial crisis other than to diminish the pension benefits earned by policemen and firemen. The paper is the bully pulpit for marxists and hates what we represent.

An employee at Northwestern should do the residents of Chicago a solid favor, and expose number of times Brandon Johnson has entered its facilities to seek treatment for his so-called "panic attacks". This should be public information, not something hidden behind "privacy" and "HIPA regs".

This unspoken issue of competency of chief publicly-elected official of Chicago is as ridiculous as all those claims Biden was "fit" to serve as President even as media's visual record of Biden 2020-2025 contradicted those claims. Brandon Johnson is not, and never ever was, "fit" to be mayor of Chicago. That he is mayor keenly demonstrates Preckwinkle, Democratic Party, CTU give zero regard to good governance and competency to serve, and voters are too stupid to care.

There is a tailor made solution for problems like this, when there is way too little money to pay way too many bills. It is called bankruptcy. The debts can be restructured, you know, debts like union contracts and pension liabilities.

This financial dumbass couldn't balance a checkbook after being that educator at a recognized CPS scholastic math and science academy. This fool can't pay for his faucet water or his commode flush and had to be put on a City of Chicago utility collection agency payment arraignment. That's after dinging the credit karma for his FICO profile. BJ made over 100k and neglected his financial obligations for an essential house utility! For real? And now this fool is in charge of a multi-billion dollar municipal budget.

Conehead is one missed dose of Zoloft away from another panic attack and spending money the city doesn't have. The men with the butterfly nets are standing by to take Conehead into custody.
The aldertheives think dropping the head tax from 15 dollars a month to 10 dollars a month is a win.
No one is talking about making cuts to spending...SHUT IT ALL DOWN!!!!

During the great depression, the city paid the police in IOUs. It was called Script. For example, you were owed $100. City gave you 100 script. You took it to the grocery store and they would give you $30 in stuff. The grocery store would deposit the hundred dollar script and get maybe 40 dollars. The rich bankers would buy the script and sold it back to the city after the depression for FULL value.

I worked for a city dept from 1982 till 2004. We were pretty lean when I started. 1 supt. And 3 foreman city wide for over 100 men. Old well maintained yellow equipment. When I left we had as many chiefs as Indians, all new expensive top line blue equipment that wasn't maintained at all.park it outside and let it rot. Bosses everywhere, new districts invented with buildings city cars and tons of non working staff. Dei hires everywhere and massive abuse of ot and disability. Hdo, black caucus, Burke and Madigan people filled the ranks. This was a construction bureau and productivity went to shit. So the city hired contractors to do the real work. Eliminate the politics and the tribal cult of personality and you could cut the payroll by 2/3 rds and get more work done. Just like the contractors do. And only buy what you need and not unnecessary equipment that pays the most kickbacks and never get used. More taxes have led to the straw breaking the camels back, it's time the city returned to the real world and not the everything is about the next election world. It's over kids.

Or BCBS pausing policy due to missed city payments. Pay and OT is what keeps the beat car wheels spinning. Budget better pass or I foresee major patrol pushback. Got $50 million to cut out of the budget if you get rid of the Alderthieves Ward Slush Funds of $1 million/Ward.

Should be plenty of bullshit to get rid of that can easily save another $50 million, so there's $100 million out of a $1 billion budget, just saved 10% w/o even really trying.

Wanna save more? No more freebies for illegals - $200 million + right there. So another 20% of the budget.

30% cut right now.

Let's find another 20% and we're at 50% of a bullshit budget. Still plenty in that 50% to fund some envelopes for these leeches, so they ought to be able to "survive" and get a budget passed so the rest of us can eat too.

ORRRRRR, there's always ultra-old school methods to consider if these fucks decide to not do their jobs...
