Indiana Bears?

We assume this is merely posturing:

  • The Bears’ sole focus for a new stadium is no longer Arlington Heights — and no longer Illinois.

In the team’s latest change of heart in a yearslong quest for a new home, Bears president and CEO Kevin Warren sent a letter to fans Wednesday evening saying the team will explore other locations for their planned new domed stadium — including northwest Indiana.

Warren wrote that Arlington Heights remains “the best and only path forward in Cook County, given there are no other viable alternatives,” and vowed to explore taking the team elsewhere.

“We need to expand our search and critically evaluate opportunities throughout the wider Chicagoland region, including Northwest Indiana,” Warren wrote. “This is not about leverage. We spent years trying to build a new home in Cook County. We invested significant time and resources evaluating multiple sites and rationally decided on Arlington Heights.”

This is a massive opportunity for political graft and corruption that comes along once in a lifetime and it would be completely believable for Illinois pols to blow the entire operation.

Fun times ahead!

Hammond Indiana is a whole lot closer to Chicago than Arlington Heights. It’s only 7 miles from the McDonald’s at the Skyway and State line Rd. And 22 miles to Soldiers Field.
Arlington Park is 16 miles from the Cumberland CTA station and 31 miles from Soldiers Field.
Complaining about being in Indiana is like saying if you live in Kenosha (49 miles from Chicago & 149 miles from Lambeau) you must root for the packers instead of the Bears.

They are funding their own stadium, they are looking for the state to cover infrastructure upgrades and a fair tax deal. Illinois doesn’t want to do anything so Warren is hedging bets. Indiana would love to have them. It would be an economic boom to the area to have a new domed stadium and NFL team there. Illinois will either play ball or watch them walk.

The New York Giants and Jets play in guess where? You got it, East Rutherford, New Jersey. For exactly the same reasons the Bears are citing in their negotions with the State of Illinois.

The Meadowlands Sports Complex has been open since 2010 and at this point the fact that it’s not in New York is no longer an issue. It is a multi-use sports facility. Surprisingly a little known fact about the Meadowlands is its use as a cemetery. Some conspiracy theorists believe Jimmy Hoffa is entombed in the northeast end zone.

No, if they keep strong, this could be a big win for the taxpayers. Does anyone believe that the Bears will generate billions of dollars of economic growth and create millions of jobs? They are a private business. Let them get their own funding. No taxpayer back stop through hidden taxes. As for the infrastructure costs of close to a an estimated billion of dollars of tax payer money, if the stadium was not built, that taxpayer money would not be spent. Spend the money on road and bridge improvement in the rest of the state. Require the Bears to finance the required infrastructure costs if they want the stadium that bad.

Sure Kevin you're moving to Indiana and give up 326 acres in Arlington heights where you can build a domed stadium, casino, hotel, Bears museum, restaurants and have the whole enchilada without sharing like you do now. Building in Arlington would put the Bears in the highest dollar franchise category. Where do you think most Bears fans that go to the games live? Its not Chicago or Indiana. Its the Suburbs. Naperville ticket sales outnumber Chicago ticket sales for games

The Bears are 100% going to Arlington Hts. The City of Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect are currently tearing up Euclid Ave. installing an entire new sewer and drainage to accommodate the new stadium. Also an acquaintance of the family has been given the contract for all the food locations inside the stadium; refrigerators, counters etc. etc. It's done AH is the location.

The Bears are whining - the state doesn’t care look at all Chicago and the state loose. The Bears still have tax payers paying for the revamp of the old soldier field and yes if the Bears went to Arlington heights it would cost the state money to add lanes to 53 - and infrastructure. So why would the state want to do that when the state is broke.

Everyone says traffic would be easier in Arlington heights. I don’t see it a 2 lane Route 53 and the congestion getting to the game. The city should just do the vision the Bears had for a new stadium in the south lot and tear down McCormick place east that is empty anyways.

Thats great if you live in Illinois making higher wages and drive to Indiana where its cheaper. The reason its cheaper is the pay scale in Indiana is 12 percent lower than Illinois. The people that live there make less money than you living in Illinois, thats why the stuff is cheaper.

Multiple ways to get to Arlington Heights; I94, I294, Route 53, Rand Road, I290. Places to eat in the area of AH out ways Hammond by miles. No comparison how AH is a better location than Hammond.

They bash Trump for his tax cuts to the rich, but they don't have any problem to offer tax breaks and taxpayer spending to a rich sports team get richer. Look at what New York State spend to keep their football team in Buffalo. Good use of taxpayer monies? But Trump is the problem giving tax breaks to the rich.

Indiana has a flat income tax rate of 3%. There is also a county income tax rate with the average being 1.5% but can go all the way up to 3. So unless they have a special rate for retirement income, you looking at a rate around 4.5% or above for income. But as stated property and sales tax are lower.

This is bullshit, a childish gambit to scare the Legislature into action but even the Legislature isn't naïve enough to believe it.. If the State had half a brain, they would now offer the Bears only a cut throat deal cause the Bears have been exposed. As another post points out, they cannot replicate the huge amount of land to develop like in AH, right next to an expressway. This demonstrates that Kevin is an amateur' negotiator. They cannot go to Indiana as they would lose some fan base and lose seasons tickets owners. And the name of the game is revenue.

Recall Mayor Richie Daley tore up Meigs Field at 2am and inked a deal with Gary Airport which kept the right wing of the Illinois Uniparty/Combine (Gov Jim Edgar) from seizing control of Midway & Ohare. At that time, there was talk of a third airport in Peotone which had the potential to take jobs & tax revenues from Daley/Chicago. Ford Heights and the Bears should do a joint venture with Indiana and plop the Bears in Dyer, IN. Anything is possible in the Peoples Republic of Crook County.
