Damn! I'm heartbroken for his family. I've known Will his entire career. We came on the job together, 96-2. Spent many years working together in 014. This one hit's close to home. I was looking forward to reconnecting at his retirement party, not his funeral! Tomorrow is never promised, it's a gift! RIP my friend!
Say what you want but anyone on this job at that age needs their heads examined. Do your time, retire and hopefully collect as many pension checks as humanly possible. Nothing and I mean nothing is worth the stress of this job. Don't care if you're a PO or a Chief. Retire and begin to sleep, eat and live a more "normal" life. We had our differences but the man was a decent person. Just don't know why he chose to stay on this job longer than necessary. Forget the promotions or hope of a better spot. Retire already and enjoy what time we all have left. Prayers for the Betancourt family during this difficult time.
Everyone always talks about the stress of the job for those of us on the street. But the stress for a boss has to be just as bad or even worse. Especially when the chief of patrol is a major asshole and treats everyone like shit. RIP Boss and may G_d bless your family during these hard times.
I have zero sympathy after his willing participation in stripping coppers at the Scamdemic portal process. It’s news like this that I welcome Karma with open arms. Now let’s hear all of his cheerleaders try to convince us that “he was a great guy” or “he was a fair boss”. GTFOH with all that. Way too many short memories on this job.
You sound like a real asshole with no class. I don't even know you but Im willing to bet you are some lazy POS that never did your job anyway and welcomed getting stripped for no vaccine. WHAT A CLASSLESS POS you are.
If you’re talking up the death of people wearing the same uniform as you, you’re either a shitty person who shouldn’t be on this job or you never wore the uniform in the first place.
Well you're gonna hear it....you're an asshole! Gfy too. The man isn't even dead cold in the ground and you have the balls, the balls to talk shit about him? You're a miserable prick, but I'm sure you already know that.
Don’t really know him… BUT, I can tell he was a much better human being than you just based on your comment. Nobody cares about you getting stripped years ago. You didn’t have to get the shot.. you just had to test every week. You didn’t want to do either. Now it’s all over. I didn’t get the shot. I tested every week, then we no longer needed the shot or to test and my life is the same.. something tells me you ruined your life by “keepin it real”… well, too bad. But celebrating death of a fellow policeman makes you nothing but lowlife trash. A pure scumbag coward. Typical cop.. thinks they are entitled to say anything about anyone at anytime.. that’s what happens when you grow up as a spoiled entitled kid.. then have no other job except this and get the cop mentality. In real life, go into a bar and talk like this… your teeth will be all over the floor within a minute…. I absolutely hope you got fired or forced yourself to retire early. We hate you.
Rest in peace, Will. Any of us who had valid issues with you didn't want to see this. Wake up everyone and care about what matters, which should be each other.
Here is the truth, if u have over 7 years and are in patrol u can care less. We got beaten down so bad and guys like him made matters harder on us. Sorry for the family but I personally can care less.
Always sad when someone dies young in life, however why is his death so important that it gets a department wide email. To many young active duty cops die each year and never get acknowledged by the department. Gold stars are not more important than anyone else on this job
Stress, poor diet, and lack of exercise will get you before the vax does. And they have found that alcoholic beverages are a pretty big contributing factor towards many types of cancers.
To all the guys out there... Go to the effin doctor if you think something is wrong or if if runs in the family... My brother died from a preventable heart attack 6 months after he retired from CPD... GO TO THE FUCKIN DOCTOR!!!
I was shocked and saddened to hear the news. I didn't know him on a personal level but he was always one of the few bosses that would stop and say hello and actually talk to you. I had a really nice half hour conversation with him when we both attended a training class at the academy earlier last year. We just talked about this job, life and officers we both knew. He was down to earth. God bless him and his family as they deal with their heartbreak.
I want to be like you. My cat wants to be like you. My tarantula wants to be like you. My ball python wants to be like you. The rats I feed my python want to be like you. The raccoon in my yard wants to be like you. My johnson wants to be like you.
Everybody has a job to do. Don’t be such an evil person. Have some sympathy and be kind even if the person was not kind to you. How soon do you forget that?!? I bet if they told you I’m going to get a promotion, you would have stripped folks too. Big talk , explain this since you are upset the exempts did not violate the order to give the order; how come, out of 10,000 members out only twenty or so violated the order. Did you violate the order, odds are no. Unkind guy, you want others to risk their job but not you.
Yeah, he sold his soul for the gold star promotions. It’d be majorly ironic if his death was caused even partially from complications associated with that bullshit shot. Especially with him as he told me at the portal (verbatim) “you wouldn’t be going thru all this headache if you were vaccinated like I am”. Ok, Bosshole, eat a dick. Sorry for his family, not sorry for his soul.
Yes. He put more than a few officers through hell with that garbage. Hope it was worth the push up the gold star ladder. Hopefully St. Peter grills your ass extra hard why you followed the orders of the tyrant lesbian mayor.
Eternal Rest Grant unto him O Lord. And may Your Perpetual Light Shine upon him. May hus soul and all the souls 9f the faithfully departed find Everlasting Life. Amen
Known Will since he was a PO in A5. Good man, good friend, good cop. Critics are easy to find when your a boss. Its impossible to please the bitter people this job attracts and creates. May God rest his soul and be with his family.
Nobody cares about your covid shot clown or how you stood up to it. If you got stripped it was your own fault for not saying weather u were vaxxed or not. You stood up, good for you. Now go point at the sky and scream about all the chemtrails while wearing your tinfoil hat stroke. Rest in peace Willie.
Got to be honest, I don’t think I ever heard a single good word about him. With that being said, you never wish for someone on this job to die. He worked for decades in hopes of being able to enjoy retirement, just like the rest of us, and he was never able to enjoy even a second. And that’s sad. No matter what you think of him, say a prayer, take a second of silence, think of his family. There’s far more to life than this job. I’ve known some real fucking jagoffs on this job, and sometimes I’ve met them outside of work, and they were delightful wonderful human beings to be around. This job turns some people into real miserable humans. I fight it some days too. Just remember, it’s nothing more than a job. Your family and friends are what is most important. Take care of yourself physically, no one is asking you to run a marathon, just walk 30 minutes a day, maybe lift some weights, be healthy, and stick around awhile, your loved ones would enjoy that. RIP boss, wish you could’ve enjoyed a bit of retirement.
He was better than most on the gold stars , but he did have his flaws . However he is still a human , and he still wears a uniform . Where did the respect go for fellow policeman or anybody . Back in the day respect was given towards bangers even on the street as long as they were cool with us , maybe that’s why some of you younger police have problems getting along with everyone both police and civilians , case and point here .
Will was a nice guy R.I.P. Listen, if you're 55 and more than 20 years the job, retire. Quit chasing the almighty dollar; you can't take it with you. Enjoy the time we have left on this earth while we're still healthy.
I liked John Thomas, but he did not deserve the line of duty death. It was Hilliards idea and his testimony that John was stressed due to his job. John did pass away on his favorite recliner in his home, and his wife tried giving him CPR. John was a smoker for most of his life.
The stress of this job killed many of us for a lot less money.
I agree, LEAVE this job as soon as your able to...Your health and family are more important. Im retired and its so amazing how the stress of the job has been lifted off my shoulders knowing I don't have to deal with the Depts or publics bullshit anymore!!! Join the NO MORE STRESS club.
If he said that to you about the portal he’s bad news. Any vaxxed boss that is still on the job needs to retire. We need a fresh batch of bosses from the under 2000 officers that refused the jab.
Years ago I worked in 004 and one of the guys didn't make it in for check off. After failing to raise him on the radio (yes kids, no GPS existed at the time) he was found parked in the squad car slumped over the wheel. Heart attack I believe it was. Don't think the department even made that an on duty death. They should have, but no one on this job gives a shit about someone else's family. Gary was probably in his early forties. Good guy, good policeman...
Hey 12:48:27 AM, GFY !! A lot of us did and do care about the clot shot, the stress we had to endure and the moral fortitude we had to muster to take a stand, while cowards like you just bent over and took it. Don’t go speaking for the whole dept with your broad generalizations, especially when you are in the minority !
He num nutz we all could have fixed that but no we chased the early ducks and the OT. This is not performance based, its numbers based, but you cant be harmed if you just answered your jobs. So its not the bosses fault its our own greed thats to blame that made matters worse for those that feel like you.
Years ago I read about a stress study and one of the conclusions was that for every year that one stayed in stressful jobs after 55, one loses 2 and half years of life expectancy. Reading this all those years ago was a major driving force in my personal decision to retire at 55. I'm now retired and all my aches and pains are gone. Stress is a real thing and affects your body silently. Leave as soon as you can if you can. May God almighty always bless the men and women of CPD.
I was thinking the same,,,,, many blue shirts. det's, sgt's, Lt's, and cpt's pass away before retirement yet nothing is said about it and no mention in the news or acknowledgement from the supe
Disagree. Work till mandatory retirement. Take and pass the power test at 64, work every day without going on the medical the last year, do not apply for the pension——— and then sue, sue, sue for age discrimination. The reason people loose In Court is because of not doing those three things.
Most people make their own stress. Read the COD rules and work around themvor follow them where it is best for you and your family. I worked until 63 and enjoyed the job and loaded up on deferred instead of retiring
What hurts the most? The feeling of being replaced. It's like no matter what you did, it wasn't enough. And no matter what you do to try & capture their heart again, it doesn't seem to work. & you're suddenly left thinking that you'll never be enough".
I just love it when coppers post things anonymously and don't know what you are talking about. Running a department as big as this comes with tremendous amounts of pressure. John Thomas really took care of coppers even if they were wrong he looked at the entire picture. He endured that Feds investigation in 25 and 17 where the coppers were shaking down the Polish. People. He saw his neighbor go down for that and it really bothered him. He had obvious physical changes due to his position but didn't complain. He was out of the office when he died but was still conducting business from home. There were many reasons why Hilliard pushed for his duty related pension. Please do your homework.

RIP Deputy.
Hopefully they dont do a repeat of John Thomas and make it in the line of duty.
RIP.
Never saw a dime of his pension. Enjoy your life. Leave this job when you can.
Damn! I'm heartbroken for his family. I've known Will his entire career. We came on the job together, 96-2. Spent many years working together in 014. This one hit's close to home. Too young RIP
What beat won the dead pool
A good boss. RIP.
This sucks to say, but no one cares. And those that “do” are pretenders.
Rest In Peace Deputy Chief Betancourt.
You did your service. RIP boss
Sorry to hear that.
Tough loss during the holidays
I know he rubbed some ppl the wrong way. To me he was a great leader. He loved workers.
Terrible. Sad.
RIP. Thoughts and prayers to his family. I hope each and every department member lives to have a long healthy retirement.
RIP Mighty Mouse, the Zone (1423) will always remember you.
They are saying heart attack
RIP Will. You were always a great Sgt to us in gangs. You will be missed. To all others, enjoy life, family and friends and be safe.
🙏🙏🙏
RIP MM. Regardless of what you think of him, he was a father, a husband, and friend to many. We can all agree he is gone much too soon.
RIP, leave this job and start collecting if your maxed out and of age,
I have known Willie for over 30 years and he will be sorely missed. God bless and protect his family.
RIP Sir!

Vax strikes again…? Lot of healthy Police been dying of heart conditions and turbo cancers the past few years

STFU. Idiot. Have some respect
People care you scumbag
You’re a sorry excuse of a human being
You sound like a real asshole with no class. I don't even know you but Im willing to bet you are some lazy POS that never did your job anyway and welcomed getting stripped for no vaccine. WHAT A CLASSLESS POS you are.
He wasn't even one of the bosses stripping people. He was only a Lt back then.
RIP Boss. You deserved to retire. You will be missed. Thank you for your service. May God Bless your family and May you rest in paradise.
You’re ignorant. They should have. But they didn’t because they don’t care about anyone but themselves
John Thomas was on his way home from work. This happened late night way after his tour of duty. Big difference
John was a great boss but you do have a point. A bunch of guys went home from work and died on the couch drinking a beer.
If you can’t say anything good then be quiet with your ignorant comments.
Way too many cry babies like you that hate. Get a life
This is quite scary.

Have to forgive and not hold grudges I know it’s hard but it’s the right thing to do
If you’re married you must be miserable to deal with. My money is that you’re divorced.
He certainly did, especially when he knelt in support of the Saint floyd protests.
Rest in peace, Will. Any of us who had valid issues with you didn't want to see this. Wake up everyone and care about what matters, which should be each other.
Retire as soon as you’re able. There is nothing here more important that your family after 55. God bless you all.
Agree, one day we're here and the next we're not.
As soon as you get to 55 leave, take the pension and the Healthcare.
Agreed, there have been alot of vindictive bosses that kicked the bucket that weren't missed.
Who says he was healthy. Heart disease can kill anyone, even if you're not morbidly obese. Only a stress test can tell if you have blockages.
Here is the truth, if u have over 7 years and are in patrol u can care less. We got beaten down so bad and guys like him made matters harder on us. Sorry for the family but I personally can care less.
That's cold.

I thought I was the only one who thought that was bullshit with Thomas too
I left at 50 and it's life changing for the better. No more copa, a hole bosses, a hole public, etc.
If they do you will never know. They slipped that one thru the pension board and people were lucky to find out at a later date Didn’t change anything
What unit was he deputy chief of

What a shit thing to say. Hope 2026 brings you class and decency.
I want to be like you. My cat wants to be like you. My tarantula wants to be like you. My ball python wants to be like you. The rats I feed my python want to be like you. The raccoon in my yard wants to be like you. My johnson wants to be like you.
Of course they will
RIP A/ 5 Gun Team !!!
Job-related stress was killing coppers long before the vaccine came along.
Not just police but civilians dropping dead rapidly! And Larry forced it on CPD remember that
agreed. who knows how long it will be until honest science admits all that nonsense was rushed and too risky to force on everyone.
Everybody has a job to do. Don’t be such an evil person. Have some sympathy and be kind even if the person was not kind to you. How soon do you forget that?!? You are a clown!! and can go fuck yourelf !! RIP MM
Sucks to say, u r a dick. Sorry for you, peeps actually make friendships for life on this job. Too bad you are soulless
Known Will since he was a PO in A5. Good man, good friend, good cop. Critics are easy to find when your a boss. Its impossible to please the bitter people this job attracts and creates. May God rest his soul and be with his family.
Agreed. RIP Will
Thank you for that. Amen.

John Thomas died inside his house, not on his way home from work.
There is something supremely wrong with you as a fellow copper that you would celebrate the death of one of us.
014 wants to know if can STILL work on the major backlog of CRs.
Freakin moron!
I see we have some liberal anti police pretenders joining our thread. Don’t worry guys. The real police respect each other. RIP Brother
God bless him and his family. He didn’t deserve to go out like this. He deserved to retire in peace after his many years of service.
It should absolutely NOT be a LODD. He was off duty. And there is no beef it’s him, but no.
Agree. You stay past 55, you’re on a prayer and borrowed time.
I’ll reserve how I truly feel about the man. But let this be a cautionary tale for those who stay past 55.
I left at 43.
Went to pension board @ 50.
They thought I had died.
Said city never tells them anything.
I chuckled.
I wonder if he took the jab. If he did just like a lot of other people are dying out of the blue, crazy. Use a US army veteran much respect.
Amen to that. I left at 50 too.
Why wait until 55 to retire?
When it’s your turn, hope they do the same for you, to benefit your loved ones left behind.
Got to be honest, I don’t think I ever heard a single good word about him. With that being said, you never wish for someone on this job to die.
That wast him numb-nuts it was Calderon.

RIP… but he was a big VAX pusher! As Barry’s preacher said,
Chickens have come home to roost
Take your shot he said
A5
This portal and forced vax seems to be coming back at the people who made people make a choice they didn’t want too.
Decent boss. Never really made it to the blog like some exempts that thrive off of making their subordinates lives miserable. RIP
Yes and God bless you!
If he said that to you about the portal he’s bad news. Any vaxxed boss that is still on the job needs to retire. We need a fresh batch of bosses from the under 2000 officers that refused the jab.
Truth
You are a miserable bed wetter. You must be a gem to work with. Douche.
RIP my friend sorry you weren’t able to enjoy your retirement. Prayers go out to your family. You will be missed.
Sadly it was him. He was a decent guy for the most part, but would suck up with the best of them. But he definitely didn’t deserve this. RIP !

they told us at the well-being courses that CPD average life span was to live to 57. Seems a little off.
When I retired at the age of 56, he kiddingly busted my balls and called me a quitter at my cake and coffee. I wish he would of quit. RIP Chief.
"They slipped that one thru the pension board and people were lucky to find out at a later date."
Not true. It wasn't a secret. And LODD isn't determined by the pension board.
Years ago I read about a stress study and one of the conclusions was that for every year that one stayed in stressful jobs after 55, one loses 2 and half years of life expectancy. You'll still have a heart attack even under a doctors care. Can't beat genetics.
Yes, the vax was indeed a silent killer and was pushed by the exempts…..fact.
I was thinking the same,,,,, many blue shirts. det's, sgt's, Lt's, and cpt's pass away before retirement yet nothing is said about it and no mention in the news or acknowledgement from the supe
