The Chicago cop who city officials say unintentionally shot and killed his partner during a foot pursuit last summer had previously told his bosses that he “inadvertently” fired his Taser after a high-speed car chase he failed to initially report a year earlier.
The car chase ended when the driver of a fleeing Jeep hit the train crossing at 89th Street so fast that it flew into the air and then crashed into six cars, according to records obtained by Illinois Answers Project and the Chicago Sun-Times. No one was seriously injured.
This ended up being a momentary hiccup on the path to a Tact spot, stymied but then approved by Heiniken after two recommendations from Tate.
We've got nothing left to say about this walking disaster, but the Department is going to be painted with this failure for years.

The CPD is the poster boy for incompetence. The CPD was once the nation’s in avatar. Now the is just a messed up place to work.

When will this show up in chicago pd? you cant get any better than this. The officer should be seperated and be charged criminally. But the chicago way will the result. The department had failed the shot officer. There is no good way to spin this.
This guy is simply an example of the crop we have coming out of the academy in the past 5 years. They're of lower education and intelligence. Many are ghetto or worse even, ghetto wannabe guys who want to act tough and macho now that they have a badge and gun, not understanding that culture is long long dead.

The lieutenants and Commanders will be moved around and the next BS program will be cranked out of Patrol lining up some new young chargers. That is, Until the next bad command choice is picked for tactical or gangs. And we all get labeled as loose cannons?

It’s definitely shining a light on the inability of the CPD to hire proper candidates, and the fact that they not only let those who are extremely deficient remain on the job- but reward them with advanced spots.

Anyone remember Summerdale? Remember William Hanhardt former Chief of Detectives? Police captain Mark Thanasouras? His murder is still an open homicide. Can't blame DIE or lowering hiring standards of those. The CPD has always had "problems." Nothing new.

I don’t understand how CB can actively want to stay with CPD. Accidental or not, his reputation is stained forever. No one will forget. Why is no one in his circle advising him to resign? DHS got notified of his goings on in Chicago since he tried to be slick and apply w homeland security after being stripped of his gun and badge. Made it all the way to the last round, passed the last test (physical fitness) in Elgin then got offered position with ice in Vegas. Looks like cpd will have to fire him after all
