Communism Works (as expected)
The people of New York City got a good taste of communism earlier this week months after electing Marxist Zohran Mamdani for mayor.
As Fox News reported, a pop-up shop opened up on Sunday for five days in the West Village to offer free groceries to impoverished New Yorkers and people simply looking for an easy lunch. The outlet notes this comes Mayor Mamdani advanced one of his key campaign promises: city-run grocery stores aimed at lowering food costs.
The store, which is called The Polymarket, was opened by a cryptocurrency-based prediction market with the same name. The Polymarket offered yellow ticket granting NYC residents entry to the little store.
Much like communist countries like Cuba, lines grew quite long in a hurry with residents across all five New York City boroughs flocked to get some ‘free’ stuff.
What happened next was entirely predictable to anyone who understands basic economics. The store ran out of tickets and food, while several individuals decided to cut in line.
Anyone reading grow up in the 60s, 70s and 80s? Remember the video coming out of the old USSR of bread lines and empty store shelves?
And when someone successfully defected to the USA, their bewildered amazement at the grocery stores here, that someone would have choices of eight types of toilet paper, a dozen different razor blades and forty selections of breakfast cereal.
History might not repeat, but it often rhymes.

I saw no one dying of hunger on the video of this store. So with all the government food programs charity food services and food pantries they still want more stuff. Get a job or two or three like everyone else. Or go out on the street and beg. A few days ago I saw a healthy guy begging on Milwaukee Ave and Dempster. So part of his "hobo" costume was he had on one black leather shoe and one gym shoe. The shoes were new if you looked at them closely.
I had a contractor working at my place. His wife and him both from former USSR countries. His wife and he were both athletes and he said “There wasn’t a day we didn’t feel watched .” He was so upset when Biden got in 2020. He said, everything he was seeing on the news from how language was being changed, people being forced to accept untruths (men can have babies), proposing more and more gun laws which led to very restrictive gun ownership (like the UK, Australia etc adopted), media as propaganda for the govt reminded him of those days in the USSR. He was saddened bc he felt like the USA he moved to 20 PLUS years ago was disappearing and becoming like what he grew up in. When speaking with a lib neighbor she was flabbergasted that her Romanian “cleaning lady” could possibly love Trump, since he’s a “Fascist.” The lib was completely clueless that these people had seen communism in real time and what fascism really is, not the imaginary world of “fascism” that the Democrats keep telling you we are living in under Trump. There’s a lot of disassociating that goes in to current liberal beliefs. The very fact that you have an entire demographic of 20 somethings who will tell you’d they’d rather live in Iran than Israel and out and out support straight up Communism while emoting they are living under “fascism” is indeed a mystery I’ll never understand.

How about gas...... I remember as a little dude waiting in the "rumble" style seat of the old station wagon for hours to get 10-12 gallons of gas. God help the owners when their tanks were dry. Some people actually abandoned their cars in the line & walked back when the gas truck was due. In the SCC article it mentioned people cutting in line. Back in the day people solved arguments by talking, then yelling & if it got too far maybe just maybe a bloody nose, black eye or fat lip. In the early 80's, lines for free food (gummint) would be a block long at 46 & MLK. Within an hour, folks were at the back door of the firehouse selling cheese, butter, etc.

I remember hearing a story back in the 80's about a Russian hockey player who came to Chicago to play for the Hawks. When his wife went to the supermarket for the first time, she bought tremendous quantities of everything, thinking that the shelves would be empty by the next day. State or city run stores never work.

I was in a Jewel by my house back when I got on the job in 86, waiting in the checkout line. An elderly couple who looked like they just got off the boat from Europe after WW2 entered the store. The woman had a look like an old Russian babushka complete with the head scarf. The man was wearing very drab, worn clothing, but their clothes were clean. I'd bet they couldn't speak english. They walked into the store holding hands, and they both stopped and they looked completely stunned at what they were seeing. They walked through the aisles, not touching anything, just looking at the stuff on the shelves. It was like they were afraid someone would throw them out for trespassing. Eastern Europe communism had collapsed and Poland, Czech Republic and others were now able to leave theise broke, decrepit countries where you had to wait in bread lines and food was rationed. The Elites got the good stuff. The fresh stuff. Fresh vegetables. Fresh meat. These people got what was left, the crumbs. Its amazing how many of our Leftist Useful Idiots are voting for this over here. Begging for communism . Just amazing...STUPIDLY AMAZING.

It was established mainly for seniors and people receiving SSI, but there was no vetting. Someone living nearby told me she saw people leaving their workplaces and going there for lunch, rather than spending money on fast food. Takers gonna take.....
But, for New York, for now, this is the easy part - all the products were created under capitalism.
But when the rest of the country becomes like New York, there will be no products to offer, free or otherwise.

Back in the 80's, my aunt emigrated to Poland thinking that going back to the Homeland would be bliss. She told me the food shelves were bare and the lines were long when meat and fresh food became available. Appliances were hard to come by. But, she had a pension and was paid in US dollars. She soon was made aware that she could shop in secret stores open only to Communist officials. There she found everything she needed, fresh food, meat and the best of all, a Sears Refrigerator. Nothing for the common man only for those in power. I expect the same will soon surface in NYC as I just don't think the wealthy in that city will wait in food lines which will soon develop as the box stores close and crime rises.
Changing zoning laws nationwide has long been a platform of the liberal democratic party and it looks like it is coming to Illinois. They want to end the single family home tracts in the suburbs and allow multiple units and public housing as they view the suburbs as racist and white supremacy. I attended Kiev University for a month. I lived with a Russian family who spoke no English. It was a very good education. They were 30 years behind us. They didn’t even have atms in the mid 90s. The college kids didn’t know what a debit card was. The state run stores were shit. Everything item was behind a counter and glass because shoppers shoplifting was just survival.
