How Dare They Require Work
More taxpayer money on the line:
As new federal SNAP work rules take effect this month, Illinois lawmakers are considering a plan that would use taxpayer dollars to soften the impact on families who fail to meet the requirements.
House Bill 4730 would create a state run program called FRESH (Families Receiving Emergency Support for Hunger). The initiative would provide one-time cash payments to households whose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are reduced or terminated because a member of the household did not meet federally mandated work requirements.
How very....generous....of Illinois taxpayers to give more money away!
And what exactly are these new rules taking effect?
- New SNAP work rules require adults aged 18 to 64 without dependents to work, volunteer, or participate in job training for at least 80 hours a month to maintain benefits.
80 hours a month....works out to about 20 hours a week.
And this is onerous enough to necessitate Illinois taxpayers picking up the bill?
People with actual jobs really need to stop voting for democrats.

Why should we have to pay for 80 hours of training? Just end this scam and tell these parasites to get a job like the rest of us. We need to get rid of these loony left politicians especially in the State House that dream up this crap.
There’s no such thing as free! We the taxpayers are paying for all these freeloaders. If somebody legitimately needs help, there is help for them. But the days of people living for nothing is over. It’s only the right thing to do.

The undue hardship to pay for transportation to do these things. I get it but having a family member with legit lupus from childhood and another with severe scoliosis, I sympathize. It would be very hard for both of them to maintain an 80 hr monthly commitment, not to mention the mental stress. But didn't Reagan require something like this years ;) ago

When I retired eight years ago I told my wife that we were leaving since we were outnumbered by the stupid. We moved to the great state of Texas. We have had explosive growth here, my house value almost doubled, property values have climbed accordingly. Gregg Abbot and the Republicans froze property taxes for residents. They actually did something good for the taxpayer. Shocking. I was touched. I couldn't remember this happening ONCE in my time of living in that wretched state of Illinois. No one EVER does anything good for the taxpayer in the state of Illinois or or the City of Chicago.Leave when you can. Go somewhere that appreciates your tax dollars. Illinois state motto should be "Abandon all hope ye who enter". Outnumbered by the stupid is just about right.

By far, the worst part of being injured and bedridden was the feeling of being useless. Getting out of bed and having a purpose is the only way to keep your mind sharp. I have zero love for these couch potatoes.

Republicans have given up on Chicago/Cook County, and don't put a lot of effort ($$$) elsewhere in the state because they know that they cannot win.

Even with Snap, there are not enough strict limitations on the program. Time Limits/ Cut Off dates need to be enforced, strictly, and if a person is on even one Government Program, that should be the Limit. If on SNAP, NO Section 8, etc. No more free rides, on the Taxpayers backs, with no accountability, and NO Piggy-backing on multiple Welfare Programs. You wanna eat, you fuckin work, or go hungry. Times up for the freeloading parasites.
You forget that today's technology allows you to work - legitimately - from your home. Do those family members have access to the internet? Can they use a keyboard? A telephone headset? I'm technically retired, but do tutoring on a remote basis through the school year. and work with an AI development company during the other months. Most of the people pulling SNAP bennies have smart phones and laptop computers and could be doing actual work. The "commitment" part is the hardest one for many of them, just like getting to work ON TIME and on their schedule is nearly impossible. Time is "racist" of course......
And what kind of accountability is there? It seems like a lot of the hardship cases who get cash (some through selling their SNAP and EBT bennies) spend it on dope. Of course, if those Dems pushing this have friends who sell fentanyl and other goodies on the streets, it makes perfect sense.
