Luuuuuucy!!!!

You got some 'splainin' to do!

  • On the eve of a Chicago City council vote, lawyers for the family of a woman who died as a result of a high speed police chase are working to salvage a settlement deal worth millions more than originally awarded.

The Council’s Finance Committee will be asked to authorize a $27 million settlement Friday with the family of Stacy Vaughn-Harrell. The family’s lawyers on Thursday urged Council members to give the OK, arguing there’s new evidence that would cause the price to balloon if the case were tried again.

This case already went to trial and a judgement of $10 million was handed down. There's plenty of information attached to this and in the public realm that this wasn't that far out of line with previous findings. We don't like it, but there's precedent.

The City decided to appeal, and suddenly "new information" comes to light and the City decides to offer....$27 million.

What did Corp Counsel completely "overlook" that necessitated an offer of three times the original finding? And when we say "overlook," what we mean is:

  • what did Corp Counsel conceal from discovery that now came to light?

Who f#$%ed this up at Corp Counsel?

Who's getting fired?

Who is being disbarred?

The Chicago Police Department moves into cover-up when the bosses do something wrong or lawsuits. Just a bunch of garbage going on in legal and internal affairs.

No one is going to get fired
No one is going to get disbarred

The city will cut a check, and it will be forgotten… until the next lawsuit for a stupid chase.

Who do you think the Lawyers are for Corp Counsel? Do you think it’s someone from Harvard, Yale, or UofChgo that got straight “A”’s
Fuck no!
It’s someone from John Marshall who barely graduated.
“C”’s get degrees!

No one from Corp Counsel will ever be sitting in the Supreme Court. One or two of them (who are connected) MIGHT make Judge in Cook County. somewhere down the line.
After all, they have nothing to lose.
That’s who’s trying these cases.

And if you have the unfortunate situation where you’re getting sued, Corp Counsel represents THE CITY!
Not you, or your best interests.
If you gotta pay punitive, well… they don’t fuckin care. They are on salary, just like the rest of the City Employees.

Hell, there’s coppers making more than half the Corp Counsel lawyers!

They mention the two who started the chase, M.R. & S.S. Who are these 7th district assists that cause the crash???

Bottom line: When the police signal you to pull over, you pull over.
If you run from the police and hit and kill someone, only YOU are responsible.
You should expect to be hunted down like the killer you are.
You should expect that the victim's family will not rest until you have been caught, charged, and sent to prison.

So take the hint- do the minimum, collect the maximum, get the fuck out as soon as you can!

3/13/2026 03:14:15 AM - "there’s coppers making more than half the Corp Counsel lawyers!"

This is correct. Median salary for Asst. Corp. Counsel is $118,000. That's the 71st percentile for P.O.'s, meaning 29% make more than half the assistant corporation counsels. It's also far below the median salary for sergeants ($147,000).

The city will routinely release the names of police officers citing the public has a right to know the names of public employees. Attorneys working directly for local government agencies, or for private firms hired by government are always concealed. Just ask Raja.

You must be an old timer remembering the good old days. You’re right of course. The citizens of a certain demographic don’t care about crime. They think of their kid being killed just as most people would regard someone dying of cancer. Think of their outrage a kin to a doctor being sued for malpractice.

Let me catch you up to speed since you seem to be a little slow:
Pursuing officers will be held liable for whatever comes of the chase, and take full responsibility for shitbirds action.
“No chase” has been a thing for a while now, and those who violate it with negative outcomes will be terminated and pillaged in civil court.
It’s what the city and the courts want, and those are the rules of the game now.
I don’t buy benefit tickets for people who are too hard headed to get it. Wake up.

I used to work in this world. Odds are the culprit here isn't Corp Counsel. Odds are it was Legal Affairs. They do the minimum, and they miss material that should be brought to light and turned over. And ailing to turn over material in litigation is very, very bad. You get hit with heavy consequences at trial, and I bet that's what's happened here.

Well, I know of at least four former Corp Counsel attorneys who graduated from Harvard/UChicago/UofM/ other "elite" law schools. Funny, they were all assigned to divisions far away from these cases. They all were true believers, in it to serve the public. But you're right, cops and trades inspectors generally made WAY more than ACCs. Licensed attorney law clerks made less than crossing guards. And one Sr Corp Counsel is running unopposed for judge right now.

The city needs to challenge this bull shit court decision that the police are responsible because the minority piece of shit eludes and gets in an accident trying to get away. The bottom feeders sue the city because they have the money and the shit bird who has total control of the vehicle doesn’t have shit or a job. And the crooked judges side with the crooked bottom feeders.
Just think . You are getting robbed and the robber shoots at you and misses and hits another person behind you and that makes you liable because he missed you and struck him. So you get sued and the robber pays nothing

I hear you, but how do you put a price on a life? How much is a life worth? We’re not paying out because of the robbery or the shooting. We’re paying out due to the city’s attempt to do a cover up. We’re paying out because officers decided to pursue a vehicle that they thought had possibly been involved in a shooting. The pursuit resulted in a loss of a life and the Corporation council attempting to cover up video evidence. A settlement was reached, but the city decided to argue six reasons for a mistrial, knowing that they had not produced all of the video evidence in the first trial.

Legal affairs has the tendency to answer Foia requests with faded documents. They run coping paper through the printer twice so that the information is eligible. They aren’t the one showing up in court, therefore they don’t care. We, the taxpayers pay for the court sanctions when the city is accused of covering up.
