Dollars at Stake

Gee, if the Feds threaten to take away money, suddenly public safety on public transportation is a top issue - this is from a few days ago:

  • The Cook County state’s attorney’s office announced a new task force Monday that will bring together officials from a swath of local, state and federal agencies to discuss how to improve safety on public transit.

The group will convene monthly to analyze violent incidents that have happened on or near public transit systems and work to bring charges.

“The task force mission is clear: promote public safety on transit systems by working in collaboration together,” Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke said at a news conference.

The task force will include representatives from Metra; Pace; the Chicago Transit Authority; the Chicago Police Department; the Cook County sheriff’s office; the U.S. attorney’s office; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Drug Enforcement Administration; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Ooooo....a "task force!" that will meet monthly.

All this seems to mean is they'll determine:

  • which cases can be prosecuted in a public manner
  • so as to generate positive headlines for persons trying to reelected
  • in the face of severe public anger about being unable to travel safely around the city.

And retain the couple hundred million in Federal dollars to pay for their grift.

LOCK UP PEOPLE FOR THE CRIMES THEY allegedly commit & then toss them in the state corrections for the ENTIRE TIME they were sentenced too. Pre-trial EVERYONE has a bail amount.

Force every member of the Task Force to ride the CTA trains and buses on a daily basis for so many required hours a day. Change the hours daily, change the routes daily. And no armed security to accompany them. Follow them with the CTA security camera system so there is no cheating or they have some lacky do it in their place. The "blue ribbon" task force WILL NOT need to meet monthly to analyze violent incidents. After making all these bureaucrats ride the system I guarantee they will be eager to give their reports in one to two weeks. Hopefully the US Federal Transportation Administration reads this blog otherwise this task force is just another attempt to whitewash the politician's ongoing failure to correct a problem that has been going on for years.

how about I save those "experts" their time and money and just tell them to let the police do their job and arrest the criminals without fear of being fired and arrested,,,, there, that will lower crime

They should consult with San Francisco. They have made upgrades to protect the safety of their riders and facilities.

I hope people are smart enough to know when you hear funding for education, funding for safety, funding for housing, etc. this doesn't mean our tax dollars are actually be spent for the public good. That money is being spent on six-figure patronage jobs with full benefits and pensions. Very little goes to helping actual taxpayers.
