Government failed at solving this problem, so what would a moron think was a solution?
A coalition of city and county officials and advocacy groups is pushing for the creation of a new city Department of Gun Violence Reduction.
“This would create a stabilized department in the long term that isn’t just responding to the whims of today when we’re dealing with sustained issues,” Deputy Mayor for Community Safety Emmanuel Andre said Monday at a City Hall news conference.
And how would the $100 million price tag be paid for?
Few details were discussed regarding staffing or what the department might look like. But officials said it would have a $100 million budget made up of existing public safety money across Chicagocity departments. It would have contracting and procurement powers to put workers like violence interrupters on the city’s payroll, the group said. The city plans to spend more than $3 billion on public safety this year, meaning the proposal would take up about 3% of that spending.
So out of the "existing" money....which would include the police budget.
So, no hiring? No promotions? No OT?

I caught the local news the other night. I try not to watch because it's 15 minutes of how local, state & the Feds. Are trying to help us ( an old saying comes to mind) but they ain't helping anyone but themselves!! So I'm watching & there is this tall man wearing a sweat shirt that says
Violence interrupter. The news says he is a professional violence interrupter. What makes him a professional was there a college diploma, some sort of training?? But what diamond comes out of his mouth................. he says that most people in prison for life would ALL agree that violence is not the answer & if they had it to over again they would say what they did was wait for it........

Since we have a police department in Chicago are they not responsible for enforcing the laws to stop the violence. But the money would not go to the police. Up in 016 we have a different sergeant every night. From all over, the districts send us a spare because we only have a few sergeants assigned that are not milking the medical or iod. And we are supposedly a squad policing district. Can’t build a relationship with a sergeant who doesn’t want to be here and is from another district entirely.

How about instead, we...
-Arrest violent criminals
-Charge them fully with laws already on the books, including no FOID, large capacity magazine, possession of "assault rifle", extra charges for crime on federally-funded Public Transit, etc...
-Automatically bump up to Federal prosecution any violations which qualify, like "switches" [full-auto machine gun], or being a Felon in possession of a firearm... OR even a single bullet. Higher conviction rates, with time served at 85%, far away from home / gang networks.
-Stop allowing time spent on an ankle monitor to count against time spent in prison, upon conviction
-Stop having prison terms served at 50% of the stated sentence for "good behavior". Go 85% at the least, as it stands Federally.
-If convicted, have all sentences served CONSECUTIVELY, never Concurrently.
Taking these violent fools out of circulation for serious time is the only way to drop the "gun violence" numbers and make Chicago safer for normal tax-paying citizens who just want to go about their day, and are actually willing to work for a living.
Additionally, when the kids hear about how their flashy young gangbanging drill-rapper idol just got sent downriver for 25 years for carjacking someone with a "machine gun"... maybe they'll think twice about getting into The Life? And over 20 years this city will become the better place to live, work, and study that it once was.
But No, all this makes too much sense. Let's have a press conference about starting a useless new city agency to award some patronage jobs to Preckwinkle's best, maybe pay off some more "violence interrupters" to get high all day in a new & different t-shirt. Sounds great, Mayor!

Allegedly one of the floated ideas is no OT after 15 September. Obviously you can never get to zero OT, weather they like it or not. But we are right on budget with OT so far, only over about 2 million for the year. Leaving about 1.5 million to spend per month from Sept-March would get the city to about 72 million. 1.5 million is a no go. Not a chance the department can handle that.
If you haven't seen this pathetic "Safety Emmanuel Andre" person on TV or in person, she's just another fake wearing a collar like Fr Phlegm.
The only person needed to take the lead to these mob action incidents is a competent Police Superintendent. Snelling-that's obviously not you.

A couple of these "violence interrupters" have been stopped by the police at mob action events "carrying" toy guns (air soft, etc). Some of them have their PERC card because they work security. Some follow these mob action events around recording for the crime-following social media accounts. They pretend they're the police, pose for pictures with other teens, play with toy guns in public and walk around on CTA property like it's their job to secure the platform. It's "the best" of both worlds for them...all.the while putting the public at a greater risk and making our job worse. Be on the lookout at the next teen trend.
And you know it will have at least one job title where they can dole out stars and guns to.
There is already a government agency dedicated to reducing gun violence in Chicago, you just won’t use them effectively. It’s called the Chicago Police Department.
