It's going to be a good Christmas at the Waller house this holiday season:
A key member of a Chicago police oversight body urged the City Council Wednesday to postpone the search for a permanent replacement for retired Police Supt. Larry Snelling until after the mayoral election.
As president of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, Anthony Driver led the nationwide search that culminated in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s selection of Snelling. Driver stepped down as president to mount what turned out to be a losing race for Congress, but he is still a commission member involved in the search for Snelling’s replacement.
In a letter to City Council members Wednesday, Driver asked that the Nov. 12 deadline for the commission to complete a nationwide search, interview candidates and present the names of three finalists to Johnson be put off until spring — after Chicagoans choose their next mayor.
The main reason is - of course - that no "qualified" candidates are going to hitch their wagon to an employment offer that might last five or six months depending if Conehead even runs or (god forbid) wins.
Our readers pointed that out over a month ago.
In the meantime, Waller will continue to double-dip with a six-digit salary on top of a six-digit pension while another six-digit salaried First Deputy isn't allowed to fulfill her actual job description of running the Department absent a superintendent.
Thank goodness Chicago doesn't have any money problems!

The real question is why Snelling left early, three months before he was fully vested in his golden pension ? Why was Snelling chosen in the first place ? A man who never even got close to a decent score on a job related promotional exam and who spent most of his career working at the academy and had little street command experience. Do you really think it was a good idea to leave the choice of superintendent in the hands of community activists? Would some really qualified person really want to take the job ? He just upped the state fop presidents pay from $800 a month to 80k a year with a pay bump every year up to 5 percent. And you know 5 percent will happen every year. Lots of crime happens at lolla, to include sexual assaults, and lots of police reports are made for the crime, to include sexual assaults. If you don’t hear about it, maybe you need to change where you get your news. People come to us, they report a crime, we write the report according to what they stated. If the news doesn’t report on it, that’s on them. Is it more likely the lowly blue shirt is turning away a victim of sexual assault risking suspension and termination to make sure they city that hates them can make money, or is it more likely the media in connection with the city and politicians keep it hush hush? Bahhhhh, you're probably right, chicago media and politicians are as stand up and honest as they come. And how could I forget, it is always the cops fault. The media refuses to report the crime and lolla and somehow it’s the cops fault, makes perfect sense. Dork.
